Orange County Fair opens today

Put on your walking shoes and ready your appetite, the 2009 OC ‘Super Fair’ begins this Friday, July 10 and brings with it some one-of-a-kind delicacies and can’t-miss entertainment that is super fun at a super value!

Running Wednesday-Sunday through Sunday, August 9, this year’s Fair will feature some new deep-fried fun with S’mores, an unusual-but-delicious Zucchini Weenie and something created especially for the OC Fair, the deep-fried bagel bite!

Also making its debut at the 2009 OC Super Fair will be “Al’s Brain – 3-D Journey Through The Human Brain” with ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. This world premiere will provide Fair-goers with an exciting and educational 3-D attraction featuring an original 10-minute 3-D film written by, directed by and starring Weird Al. The attraction will be free with admission to the Fair and open to visitors during all operating hours throughout the Fair’s full run. This is the first time an attraction of this size and magnitude has been produced by a fair, for a fair.

On opening day, Friday, July 10, there will be free admission and parking for all attendees during the opening hour, from noon to 1 p.m. For those people that can’t get enough Fair, food and fun, the Super Pass is a great option with “all the Fair you can bear,” allowing patrons to visit every day of the five week run for one low price. Includes carnival and concert discounts and front of line access to Fair and Al’s Brain. The Super Pass is $30 for adults; $25 for seniors and $20 for kids.

The Action Sports Arena is back with Tribute Bands, the Maloof Money Cup skateboarding competition, Demolition Derby, Bull-riding and much more. All acts, excluding the Maloof Money Cup, are free with Fair admission (reserved seats extra). The Summer Concert Series at Pacific Amphitheatre at the 2009 OC Super Fair is geared to provide a premier concert experience at a fan-friendly ticket price and, as always, concert tickets include Fair admission. Headline acts include Kelly Clarkson, Heart, Rick Springfield, the Black Eyed Peas, Melissa Etheridge, and Duran Duran.

The Fair would not be the Fair without its abundance of food, contests, exhibits, and carnival rides. Approximately 80 vendors offer a variety of food choices, including barbecued beef, giant turkey legs, corn dogs, cinnamon rolls, lemonade, deep-fried Twinkies, avocados and much more.

The annual OC Fair is one of over 150 events held at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. The OC Fair & Event Center is conveniently located off the 405 and 55 freeways at 88 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa.
