Annie Mac to tour

After five years at the forefront of Radio One’s specialist output with her show The Mash Up, Annie Mac has recently earned herself the much-coveted role of ‘officially starting the weekend’ every Friday evening.

Her nimble ascent to the most prominent dance music slot on radio is largely down to her keen ear for a banger and refreshing disregard for genre snobbery. She is as inclusive with her audience as she is with different styles of music, and the sense that she is reveling in the tunes she plays as much as the listener has been evident from the off. Adding a large collection of DJ performances and residencies throughout the UK to her list of sizeable accomplishments, Annie Mac is widely celebrated and highly coveted as a performer, trendsetter, and radio personality.

This Fall, Annie Mac sets her sights stateside, set to deliver her top notch live DJ sets at a selection of North American appearances. We are truly proud to introduce Annie Mac -- one of the UK’s leading pioneers of sound and performance to this side of the globe, sure to make waves and leave a lasting imprint on our music scene as heavy as she has already within her own turf.

‘Annie Mac Presents’ has showcased remarkably diverse and fresh line-ups from its inauguration in a single room at Fabric with Mylo and Justice four years ago. Since then the concept has gone from strength to strength, the venues have grown larger each year, but the dynamism of the events has been far from diluted, and the line-ups remain hugely progressive. Be it through presenting Diplo’s Ibiza debut or hosting Skream and Benga at a sold out Koko for the very first time, The Annie Mac Presents tour consistently goes far beyond its remit of supplying audiences with a great club night, it innovates and impresses year on year.

With a summer residency in Ibiza, slots at festivals including Creamfields and Bestival, and a multitude of sold out club events; the Annie Mac Presents brand embodies the ethos of Annie's radio show; showcasing future music in a fun way.‘

Essentially the show is a sharing experience -- I hate the idea of sounding preachy. For me, a sense of how music makes you react is more relevant than a knowledge of exactly how it was created.’

Annie’s passion for broadcasting began at university. After studying for an MA in Radio, producing and presenting several shows on regional and internet stations, all the while educating herself in the mechanics of the industry by working for a radio promotions company… Annie caught her break at Radio One.

Annie had to prove herself on a whole new level at the BBC, but her prior experience had ingrained in her a confidence, knowledge and love for music and broadcasting that soon saw her anonymously voicing The One World Show, and subsequently filling in for her original inspiration, Mary Anne Hobbs.Ever since purchasing her first decks at university, Annie has DJ’d at parties for the love of it. Her skills tightened with residencies at small clubs, and much like her first forays into broadcasting, were honed anonymously. Now she plays all over the world, and brings her favorite DJs and bands with her.

It may seem as if Annie has come a long way, but she it would not be unreasonable to suggest that this is an exciting new beginning. As well as taking the reins of the renowned Friday evening slot on Radio One, Annie is further broadening her horizons by putting together and releasing a series of compilations, under the Annie Mac Presents banner. Reflecting the ethos of her radio show and the expanding array of Annie Mac Presents events is a priority for Annie with the series; so we can expect a captivating, diverse and original collection of mixes, the first of which is due for release in Autumn 2009.

Be it by moving people on dance floors, in their cars, bedrooms, head-phones or with friends to launch the weekend, one thing is assured. For, and from Annie Mac, there is still a great deal more to come. Stay tuned.
