Katie Knipp is a very special talent indeed. Described by one reviewer as "Dylan in a dress," this singer-songwriter from Sacramento, California is ready to break out into the big time.
Katie has just released her third album, 'Midnight Mind'. Recorded during a period when she admits she was financially "at rock bottom" this is the record that she was always destined to make. It is as heartfelt and true a collection of songs as you could hope to hear, while the writing and musicianship stand out from the crowd.
What makes Katie so different, and so special, is that she is not some run-of-the-mill starlet straight off the queue of hopefuls for American Idol. On the contrary, Katie is a classically trained musician with a degree in opera.
But beautiful, haunting and exquisite as her voice is, it is the rawness of this album that makes it stand out.
Katie talks about the "passion" that music needs to make it stand out. That passion is in abundance here. Whether it’s there in her soaring vocals, mournful piano playing or bluesy dobro, passion is the word that describes every note she plays on 'Midnight Mind'.
It is the passion she felt when, at 18, she attended her first rehearsal of Mozart's 'Requiem' and burst into tears, it is the passion that means she is likely to fulfil her ambition of selling out the Fillmore, and it is the passion that means the world will fall in love with Katie Knipp and with 'Midnight Mind'.
Having proved her credentials playing with the likes of Barry Manilow and the Doobie Brothers, she is now ready to break out on her own.
'Midnight Mind' is produced, written and performed by Katie, accompanied by the accomplished Nathan Hoehner on bass and Andrew Griffin on drums. It is her most personal work, and it is set to launch her into the musical stratosphere.
