Mickie gets fan mail

Here's some fan mail from one of my favorite readers~ I just had to share! ~M

Hi Mickie!

Just wanted to share some photos of Friday's activity, some shots from the railway museum, and a photo from last year at the Buccaneer. Thanks again for inviting me to your performance!

From the exotic and artistic to the heavily industrial--last month I was helping move these heavy railroad ties into position. After 40 years this switch needed some new timbers and rails.

A triad of trolleycars. These "streamliners" served Los Angeles until 1963. The two-tone "green machine" ran in LA from 1948 to '63, and has been at the museum since 1965--three times as long as it was in transit service. Last time I ran it was when Huell Howser from KCET visited the museum.

Also, you covered the Arcadia Blues Club, which Pat and I went to last year to see Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers (who we knew from the last century). Your comment about how it seemed like there had been a remodeling that hadn't been completed reminded me of a joint on the north side of Covina, where I would go for "Stan West's Slidewinder Blues Jam" back around 1980. This place (long since demolished) looked like two or three remodeling projects had been started and left undone. The music was good, but I felt like I should have worn my hard-hat and safety shoes. Oh well, I went for entertainment, not to be an architecture critic. (sounds like a good story for the Old Curiosity Shop)

Stay stoked!
