Vertical Wine Bistro, located in historic Old Pasadena, and resident “Wine Dude” David Haskell introduce a new “Pair by Phone” service, as well as curbside wine delivery, providing a convenient way for wine enthusiasts to select and pick up that perfect bottle for a dinner party, special occasion, or casual dinner at home.
All of the wines on Vertical’s 500-plus bottle list, a list overseen and developed by Haskell, are available for retail sale (prices range from $12 to $500). After dinner in the restaurant, guests may opt take a piece of their tasting experience home with them by purchasing the wines they’ve enjoyed, or customers may call in their orders for pick-up, which will be delivered to their car curbside upon arrival. The new “Pair by Phone” service allows guests who call in their orders to also request suggestions for wine and food pairings from the Wine Dude himself.
“The idea is to provide a one-stop shop for wine enthusiasts,” Haskell says. “Say you’re planning a dinner party or need that perfect gift for a host, you can call Vertical, chat about the menu planned and what wines might be pair well, and then place your wine order right then and there. Think of it as 411 for wine.”
One part wine bar and lounge and one part dining room, Vertical offers gourmands, oenophiles, and wine novices alike the chance to explore innovative pairings of seasonal California bistro dishes and an intriguing array of wines, beers, and classic cocktails. Owner and renowned film producer Gale Anne Hurd recently teamed up with Haskell and new Executive Chef Doug Weston to refresh the bistro’s menu and overall culinary program. For Hurd, Haskell, and Weston, the vision is simple: Create a sophisticated, relaxing space with unparalleled levels of service, while maintaining its foundation as a neighborly and approachable destination for enjoying great food and wine.
