"Jack Says" and "Split Ends" on DVD

Ah, the long days of summer. Kids are out of school, days are long and…there isn’t a dang thing to watch on TV but static. Instead of Wipeout or Jersey Shore, why not relax and watch some movies (actually, make time for Jersey Shore so you know what the rest of the country is talking about)? We present herewith our June releases of new films are coming out on DVD. They include:

JACK SAYS:
JACK SAYS is a stylish, modern noir thriller reminiscent of a SIN CITY style. In the film, waking up blood-soaked in London next to a dead body, Jack (Simon Phillips) has amnesia, but just enough wits about him to escape before the police arrive. A photograph and a scribbled address draw him to Paris to visit Erin (Rita Ramnani), the ex he can’t remember. But a guy like Jack attracts trouble, and an encounter with the mysterious Girl X (Aurelie Amblard) bring him to the attention of underworld figure Garvey (Rula Lenska).

As he struggles to remember his former life and with the British police closing in on him, Jack finds his chances for happiness and a new life slipping away as he is dragged into a web of lust and deceit, with tragic consequences. A festival darling, Jack Says won the best actor and jury award at the Newport Film Festival for brothers Simon Phillips and Bob Phillips, and spawned a graphic novel prequel, JACK SAID, which was itself made into a movie. SPLIT ENDS
In this gentle, hair-raising romantic comedy, SPLIT ENDS pits a disappearing way of live against encroaching development. Developers threaten to raze a dozen small town New Jersey Old Town businesses to make way for a mega mixed-use development called Cortona. If Cortona is built, a dozen mom and pop businesses will be bought out and uprooted, and if anyone refuses to sell, developer North Sea Assets is prepared to use eminent domain and the toady mayor (The Sopranos' Vincent Pastore) to force the Old Towners off of their property. But one obdurate obstacle stands in their way: feisty Scottish-born Lizzie Munro (Corrina May), owner of the Paisley Set hair salon.

While Lizzie’s life is full of split ends—fragmented relationships, she’s not about to give up her property—willed her by her father—without a fight. Invoking her Scottish hero William Wallace, who fended off the English in BRAVEHEART, Lizzie gamely rallies fellow property owners and her employees to her cause. But just as the battle is engaged, a new man enters her life, who might threaten to turn the tide the other way. How will it turn out? Directed and Produced by Dorothy Lyman, and written and produced by real-life hairdresser to the stars Libby Munro Christiansen.
