Decca Broadway is pleased to announce the release of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus’ latest musical collaboration with a special 2-disc live recording of the September 2009 American debut of Kristina at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York City. The pair began work on the production following their international success with both Mamma Mia and Chess. Originally produced in Sweden, this critically acclaimed musical production has won numerous awards and has gone on to become one of the most popular and established musicals in Sweden.
Kristina is the inspiring tale of one woman and her family’s struggle in Sweden which results in their subsequent emigration to America in search of a better life. Along the way, they are met with many joys and hardships and offer a glimpse into the realities of immigrants to a still largely untamed America. The story is compassionately told through the stirring music, written by Benny Andersson and with lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus and Herbert Kretzmer. The cast is led by the original ‘Kristina’; Helen Sjöholm and features incredible performances from Russell Watson, Louise Pitre and Kevin Odekirk.
The musical epic, which features 35 tracks, is a testament to the creative prowess of Andersson and Ulvaeus. Time Magazine raved “Some of the most rapturous melodies ever heard in Carnegie Hall”.
