Fauna releases album

Today, South American pioneers Fauna are proud to release their debut record, Manshines on Waxploitation/ZZK. To celebrate the album’s release, Fauna premiered one of the album’s standouts, “Hongo x Hongo,” at RCRD LBL. Calling the band “cumbia rave gods,” the site hailed the band as one of Argentina’s breakout acts.

Buenos Aires is at the center of one of the most vibrant music scenes in the world today. Mixing, blending, and evolving into a melting pot of traditional South American sounds alongside an original, experimental electronic movement, the city has produced some of the most unique electronic music across the globe. Leading this movement has been Fauna, one of ZZK’s original pioneers who began playing at the label’s unofficial home, Club Niceto in 2006.

Fauna have been early innovators within this tight community of artists, helping pioneer the “ragga cumbia” sound. Hailing originally from Mendoza, Argentina, Fauna consists of MC/Producers Color Kit and Catar Sys (who tragically passed away in 2010). Since forming in 2003, the group developed a musical style that combines classic Latin rhythms with hip hop, and experimental dance. The band’s acclaimed debut album La Manita de Fauna received global praise for it’s unique sound and approach.

With Manshines, Fauna continues to add more influences and textures to their already unique sound. Produced by a who’s who of Argentine producers (Andrés Oddone, Frikstailers, Daleduro and El Remolón all worked with the band to produce this record), this new album widens the band’s horizons, incorporating more powerful cumbia, dubstep and kudoro rhythms to the mix. It’s an eclectic mix of styles that needs to be heard to believe.
