2. LOS ANGELES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA – Family Concert
"Mozart & Me"
Sunday, May 6, 2012, 2 pm
Alex Theatre, 216 N. Brand Boulevard, Glendale, 91203

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra presents a Family Concert, recommended for ages 5 to 105, designed for children with little or no previous musical experience, providing a performance prefaced by creative activities to amuse, enrich and involve them, including a musical “petting zoo” where youngsters handle and play brass, woodwind and string instruments. The Sunday, May 6, 2012, program features works Mozart wrote when just a boy, interspersed with lively enactments of the youthful composer’s letters to his father. Ray Ushikubo, a promising ten year-old pianist from The Colburn School, plays variations Mozart wrote on an old folk tune recognizable as “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” and soprano Krystle Casey joins the Pasadena Master Chorale for some of the master’s gorgeous vocal works. Prior to the concert, families can experience LACO’s Instrument Petting Zoo with Pasadena Conservatory of Music, create masterpieces with crafts from Kidspace Children’s Museum, and participate in exercises from their “First Experiences in Singing” classes for the littlest singers, during which members of Los Angeles Children’s Chorus demonstrate basic vocal techniques.
