Shannon Labrie on tour in support of album

“I Remember A Boy,” the focus track from Shannon Labrie’s debut album, Just Be Honest, goes to Triple A/Non-Comm/Americana radio today. The track was recently American Songwriter’s “Daily Discovery” and Music Connection, which named Labrie one of the “Best Unsigned Artists of 2012,” noted: “It’s the song ‘I Remember A Boy’ that kills…devastating and beautiful.” You can check out Labrie’s video for “I Remember A Boy” at

The song captures a universal yearning for simpler, more innocent times. As Shannon told American Songwriter: “I longed for the past. I longed for the days when everything was uncomplicated and sweet. I wanted to be young and unscathed by the world.”

Labrie will open for Bobby Longthis Saturday, April 6, at 12th and Porter in her adopted hometown of Nashville. Upcoming tour dates include shows at Los Angeles’ Hotel Café (4/25) and RockwoodMusic Hall in New York City (5/14). She will also perform at the Key West BMI Songwriters Festival (5/1-4).

Just Be Honest debuted in the Top Ten of iTunes’ Singer/Songwriter chart in February 2013. Labrie stares down her demons on the retro-R&B album opener “Secret” while the album’s title track is a lush, rich plea for truth that would fit alongside a playlist that includes Carole King and Norah Jones. The bluesy, infectious “Love Somebody” is a startlingly optimistic and forgiving response to a lover who’s been honest enough to own up to an indiscretion, but on the sparse, poetic “Slow Dance” she warns: “If you’re looking for fast/I’m not your girl/I was built to last/Just so you know/I love like a slow dance.”

Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, Shannon began writing classical piano pieces as a child.  She learned guitar from her father, a gifted, self-taught musician who died of cancer when she was only 14. Her music has already been heard in “One Tree Hill” and in an NBC promotional campaign. M Music And Musicians Magazine hailed Labrie as an artist to watch in a “Who’s Next” feature. She was recently featured alongside Brooke Waggoner, Matthew Perryman Jones, Katie Herzig, Mindy Smithand other artists on the Nashville Indie Spotlight, a digital sampler available exclusively on iTunes.
