Nicholette Kominos exhibit in Pasadena April 28

Offramp Gallery is pleased to present Nicholette Kominos: Wandering Boundaries from April 28 - June 2, 2013.Wandering Boundaries is Kominos's second solo show at Offramp Gallery. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, April 28, 2013 from 2-5pm. There will be a closing reception on Sunday, June 2 from 2-5pm with an artist's talk at 3pm.

In her new work Kominos explores the idea of echoing a single shape through multiple drawings and sculptures based on that shape, blending materials as diverse as graphite, foam, chenille and vellum with bronze, plywood and steel. The results yield an unexpected quiet elegance and sophistication.

Kominos states: "In my current series of work, shifting between sculpture and drawing, I focus on a single object with the intent of extending it: inflating the volume or shrinking it down, multiplying and dividing it, while going big to little or foam to bronze, not just to play with scale and material, but also thinking in terms of visual memory and how the images we store can expand and contract. We navigate through the mind’s eye to retrieve these memories and over time layers of information are added or stripped away, and with fluidity they are reshaped and reformed acquiring different degrees of psychological weight."

Kominos has a B.F.A. in Studio Art and a B.A. in Psychology from Southern Illinois University. She lives and works in the Los Angeles area.
