Night Kills Day hits LA April 20

NIGHT KILLS THE DAY will be performing at the Key Club on Friday, April 20 as part of their U.S. tour--with Electric Six and Test Your Reflex--in support of their forthcoming debut THE STUDY OF MAN… due out April 10 on NYC indie Score Records.

Filled with highlights such as the anthemic first single “Dive,” the electro-pop “Rainbows in N.Y.C.” and the danceable “Enjoy The Ride” THE STUDY OF MAN… is now impacting specialty radio.

Produced by Joe Blaney--noted for his engineering work with the Ramones and Keith Richards as well as his efforts on the Clash albums Combat Rock and This is Radio Clash--the album is garnering early critical praise, see below.

“Scuttling out of the darkness comes The Study of Man…and the Developed Shadow, the debut album from the Big Apple’s Night Kills The Day. The driving ‘After Hours,’ which opens the set, is built around an incandescent series of arpeggios, a musical exercise for keyboard and guitar transformed by a propulsive rhythm and delicately shaded atmospheres. ‘Rainbows In N.Y.C.’ is an obvious homage to Depeche Mode and just as infectious as anything that band has written, while the equally memorable “Dive!” evokes New Model Army at their most anthemic. …A stunning debut and a thoroughly haunting and evocative album.”
--Jo-Ann Greene, ALL MUSIC. COM, March 12, 2007

“…Depeche-Mode-meets-The-Deftones atmospheric rock.”
--Glenn Gamboa, AM NEW YORK, March 19, 2007

“Despite the obvious connections to The Cure or Bauhaus, Night Kills the Day stands apart. The four-piece have crafted a mature and layered experience that has a certain New York feel… The Study of Man…will haunt you even after you hit stop and move onto something else. It’s catchy, moody, melodic and overall engaging. From the atmospherics of guitarist Izzy Lugo, to the smooth rhythm section of bassist Timothy Falzone and drummer Roger Benton to the haunting voice of Luke Brian, Night Kills the Day is not a band that you will soon forget.”
--Chris Beaumont, BLOG CRITICS.ORG, March 2007

"...an act that should brighten up-or, maybe, darken the happy misery-that old Cure fans have been missing for quite some time now."
--DRUM!, March 2007

“Influenced by The Cure and Joy Division musically, by Nietzsche and Rimbaud ideologically, the goth-drenched new wave of Night Kills The Day looms over the next generation of alt-rockers like a nihilistic shadow of self-incarceration. Forged from the life-long friendship of vocalist Luke Brian and bassist Timothy Falzone, Night Kills The Day create new wave that bridges the gap between the darkness of the 80’s and the anthem-like hooks of arena rock. While guitars may either chime soothingly like canaries or crash in a tidal wave of distorted mayhem, the band never lets the hooks and the lyrics go to waste, making a breaking sentiment with every word on their full-length The Study Of Man…And The Developed Shadow.”
--Chris Castro, AQUARIAN WEEKLY, March 21, 2007

“Coming from NYC, these guys might just top The Strokes and The Bravery as the best rock band out of the Big Apple. There's a lot of bands now who try and copy the 80's style of music. Then there's bands like Night Kills The Day who sound more natural in the way they bring an 80's influence into their songs. It makes their work more authentic, rather than an effort that just winds up being trendy. Expect to hear more about this band.”
--Gordon Saylor, SOCIETY’S ELITE (blog), February 2, 2007

“[Night Kills The Day] indulge in wavelengths of electro-pop, flourishes and feathering synths with skillful handling. [The Study of Man…] is filled with airy melodic synths, dance club rhythms and gentle flowing atmospheres in the guitar motions and vocals. The tracks have characteristics of dream-pop, electro pop and shoegaze fusions. The result gives Night Kills the Day the musical significance of Radiohead in the showgaze arena with vast consonance in instrumentation and fluent vocals that carry a warm sonic frequency through the chord shifts and vaporous ranges.”

U2 announces auction to aid Music Rising

U2's The Edge announced the Icons of Music Auction to benefit Music Rising on Saturday April 21st 2007 at Hard Rock Cafe New York in Times Square at 5 p.m. The auction event will offer one of the most significant collections of music memorabilia from many of music's greatest legends with proceeds benefiting Music Rising (www.musicrising.org ), a campaign co-founded by The Edge, producer Bob Ezrin and Gibson Guitar Chairman and CEO Henry Juszkiewicz in 2005 to aid musicians of the Gulf Coast Region in regaining their livelihood after the devastation of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The live and online auction, hosted by Julien's Auctions (www.juliensauctions.com), will be offering approximately 200 pieces of music memorabilia, much of which has been specifically donated for this cause.

Amongst the donations from The Edge is his 1975 Cream Gibson Les Paul (est. $60,000-80,000), an instrument highly significant to his career and U2. "I wanted that Steve Jones 'Never Mind The Bollox' sound, so I got the same guitar right down to the color. I never could get that sound, but I found a bunch of songs in this instrument, and have used it extensively ever since, on tour and in the studio, ' said The Edge.

Included in the unprecedented collection of auction offerings will be John Lennon worn sunglasses (est. $4,000-6,000), Janis Joplin seven-page handwritten love letter to her boyfriend (est. $1,000-2,000), Jimi Hendrix guitar (est. $60,000-80,000), Bruce Springsteen hand written lyrics (est. $2,000-4,000), Elvis Presley early recording contract (est. $3,000-5,000) Kurt Cobain's MTV Video Music Award for Nirvana (est. $4,000-6,000), Paul McCartney hand-painted Epiphone Texan Guitar (est. $6,000-8,000), President Bill Clinton signed saxophone personalized to winning bidder (est. $2,000-4000) and a Rolling Stones' signed Gibson Les Paul Music Rising Guitar (est. $20,000-30,000). U2 highlights donated by band members to support Music Rising include a pair of Emporia Armani (Project Red) concert-worn sunglasses (est. $2,000-4,000) donated by Bono, a Tom Tom drum (est. $8,000-10,000) donated by Larry Mullen and a concert and studio-played bass guitar (est. $20,000-30,000) donated by Adam Clayton. Other memorabilia from Madonna, Ray Charles, KISS, James Brown, Coldplay, Led Zeppelin, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, The Beatles, Jim Morrison, Cher, The Grateful Dead and much more is also included.

Details of the ticket sales will be announced by March 30th on various websites including Musicrising.org, U2.com, Gibsonfoundation.org, Gibson.com, Juliensauctions.com and Hardrock.com. In addition to the live auction event, Grammy winner Aaron Neville will perform as a tribute to his native New Orleans. The performance will follow the auction.

The ongoing efforts of Music Rising have thus far aided over 2,400 professional musicians and over 20,000 students and parishioners. Still Stuck in Your Throat, self-produced by Fishbone also reunites the band with noted Mixer David Kahne (Sean Lennon, Sublime, Wilco and more) who produced the band's most popular releases including Fishbone, Truth and Soul and The Reality of My Surroundings. Tracks include: “Jack Ass Brigade”, “Let Dem Ho’s Fight”, “Skank'N Go Nuttz”, “Party With Saddam”, “We Just Lose Our Minds”, “Frey'd Fuckin’ Nerve Endings”, “The Devil Made Me Do It”, “Forever Moore”, “Behind Closed Doors”, “Premadawnutt”, “Faceplant Scorpion Backpinch” and a cover of Sublime’s hit “Date Rape”. These album tracks have been met with enthusiastic response from Fishbone's legion of fans during the band's recent tour dates. Obviously, this is a band that has not abandoned the music or the scene they helped create as teenagers; today Fishbone is once again helping to reinvent it with this uninhibited new record.

In 2006, Fishbone received renewed attention in the major media with high profile gigs as the house band in OutKast's movie "Idlewild", and subsequently as the band for Christina Aguilera’s video "Ain’t No Other Man" (a Grammy winner which peaked at #6 on the Billboard charts). They also appear on screen in David Arquette's directorial debut and soon-to-be cult classic B-movie "The Tripper"; the band also handles scoring duties on the film. Fishbone Lead Singer Angelo Moore also makes a guest appearance on Gwen Stefani's new album (to be released December 4). Fishbone’s colorful and colossal attempt of Sublime’s “DATE RAPE” was the featured single from Look At All The Love We Found: A Tribute to Sublime. Their version of the song has received airplay on radio stations across the US, and the video received widespread recognition via You Tube and Myspace landing on several online Top 10 lists for last year. Additionally, Fishbone headlined major outdoor public shows in New York and Philadelphia for the launch of Al Gore’s newly formed cable network, Current TV, along with Black Rock and Hip Hop stalwarts THE ROOTS.

The band closed out 2006 with a legendary performance playing the exclusive closing week of the now-defunct New York club CBGB. The future promises to be good to Fishbone as well. An extensive documentary is on the horizon from the makers of the award winning films Plagues and Pleasures of the Salton Sea and The Real Dirt on Farmer John that should cement the Fishbone legend even further into the annals of music history. 22 years later Fishbone is Still Stuck In Your Throat! The current Fishbone line up is: Norwood Fisher, Angelo Moore, John Steward, Dre Gipson, Rocky George (Suicidal Tendencies), Curtis Storey Jr. and John McKnight.

The Buffalo Killers are coming

The Buffalo Killers have returned from SXSW and are back on the road this spring. Catch the band starting in their hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio, performing across the United States heading west with a stop at The Echo in Los Angeles, May 1. The Buffalo Killers are currently supporting their self-titled Alive Records debut, available in stores now. The video for “S.S. Nowhere” is currently available online at: www.myspace.com/buffalokillers and YouTube.

Trimmed to a three piece following the dissolve of critic’s favorite, Thee Shams (Fat Possum), Cincinnati’s Buffalo Killers reconfigured their line-up and refined their sound, recording the recently released Alive Records debut at hometown Ultra Suede Studios with producer John Curley (Afghan Whigs, Staggering Statistics). The band features brothers Zachary (vox/bass) and Andrew Gabbard (vox/guitar) with Joseph Sebaali (drums). Drawing comparisons in sound to Cream, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and the Allman Brothers, the bands’ music is deeply rooted in 60s psychedelic and 70s blues rock.

Parkway Drive on tour

Aussie metalcore regime Parkway Drive has announced that they are heading to the studio in May to record their follow-up to 2005’s Killing With A Smile. Teaming up again with their producer-in-crime, Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, the band will record at Zing Studios in Boston.

Combining elements of hardcore, death and math-metal, Parkway Drive plan to punish fans with their cyclonic rhythms, intricate dexterity and ire filled vocals for a sonic whirlwind of bone-crushing brutality that will hijack your stereo for one of the greatest pit-inducing records of the year.

“Fans can expect a heavier, faster and more precise album than Killing With A Smile,” proclaims frontman Winston McCall. “The new songs mark two years of intense touring, refinement and experience. The songs we are writing are the next step for us. We’re simply putting them out there for people to make of them what they will, but rest assured as far as we are concerned this is the album we have always wanted to write.”

Currently on a US tour with Comeback Kid, It Dies Today, This Is Hell and Endwell, Parkway Drive will be distributing their destruction upon the masses this summer with a tour of Europe and Japan followed by select dates on the Vans Warped Tour. Prepare to be assaulted!

The Rezidudes' new effort now out

ARE THEY PUNK? ARE THEY COMEDY? THEY’RE THE REZIDUDES! AND.... 'WELCOME TO THE SUCK' ON APRIL 1ST

What’s wrong with having a little bit of fun with rock n’ roll? The Rezidudes are certainly unhappy with the current over-serious state of rock n’ roll and this Manchvegas, New Hampshire-based quintet are ready to do something about it with their April 1st (yep, April Fool’s Day) release for Screaming Ferret Wrecords, ‘Welcome to the Suck.’ Think South Cali pop punk (Me First and the Gimme Gimme's, Avail, No Use for a Name, etc.) with heavy metal guitars, and you’re not far off from the Rezidudes’ musical forte. But instead of specializing in original compositions, the quintet takes well-known songs from the 50’s through the 80’s and transforms them into metal/punk party anthems – including Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Boxer”, John Denver’s “Country Roads” and even the “Theme from Cheers”, among others.

Comprised of Shannon Verfaillie (vocals), Meliah Rage’s Jim Koury (guitar), Kevin Cornish (guitar), Jimbo Ormiston (bass), and Andre Dube (drums), The Rezidudes are (according to Cornish) “…a group of life long friends who enjoy getting together once a week to live out our mid-life crisis, rock and roll fantasies and have a good time. In a nut shell, we get a kick out of taking tired old mellow songs that everybody knows and giving them a swift kick in the ass. Picture the evil offspring of Carly Simon and Joey Ramone if you would.”

‘Welcome to the Suck’ was recorded at Screaming Ferret Studios in Manchester, New Hampshire by label head Tim Koukos, and mastered by Grammy Award Winner Doc Wiley at Sonic Nerve Studio in Miami Beach, Florida.

“This had to be one of, if not the most, fun sessions I’ve ever recorded and co-produced,” admits Koukos. “The hardest part was trying to stop laughing while we were tracking so we could actually finish the recordings! Very fond memories from this one that I’ll truly cherish for the rest of my life.”

Track listing for ‘Welcome To The Suck’:
1. Sunshine
2. Boxer
3. Help
4. California Dreamin
5. Tainted Love
6. Come Dancing

8. Theme from Cheers

The Almost in LA April 12-14

As THE ALMOST--the brainchild of Underoath drummer/vocalist AARON GILLESPIE--prepare to release their debut album SOUTHERN WEATHER April 3 through a joint venture with Tooth & Nail and Virgin Records, the group has announced West Coast dates with Say Anything and Saves The Day as well as an East Coast trek with Paramore and This Providence. The West Coast run will hit Los Angeles for three consecutive shows: April 12 and 13 at the House of Blues and a second performance April 13 at the Vans Warped Tour Kick-Off Party with K-Os, Meg & Dia, The Briggs, Bleed The Dream and Jimmy Mar. In late April, THE ALMOST head out on a three-week tour with Paramore and This Providence, with a stop May 2 in New York City at the Bowery Ballroom, just prior to the band’s May 5 Bamboozle Festival performance at New Jersey’s Meadowlands.

In other news, THE ALMOST’s debut video for their first single “Say This Sooner”--which can be viewed here: http://boss.streamos.com/wmedia/virg001/the_almost/video/southern_weather/thealmost_say_this_sooner_hi.asx--has been received with tremendous support from the video outlets. MTV2 launched the video on Monday, March 19 through the channel’s premiere platform “Unleashed,” with the video airing every hour on the hour. The video was also added to MTV2 this week and is in current rotation on FUSE, Music Choice and The IMF! In addition, music from SOUTHERN WEATHER will be featured on MTV2’s “The Drop” on Saturday, April 14, holding the band in the company of past “The Drop” artists Fall Out Boy and Good Charlotte.

Meanwhile, the powerful song is impacting radio, with adds at such stations as: KNDD “The End” (Seattle), KDGE “The Edge” (Dallas), KTBZ “The Buzz” (Houston), WSUN “97X” (Tampa), CIMX “89X” (Detroit), WPBZ “The Buzz” (West Palm), KXRK “X96” (Salt Lake City), KRBZ “The Buzz” (Kansas City), WXDX “The X” (Pittsburgh), KTCL (Denver), KXTE “X-treme Radio” (Las Vegas), WOCL “O-Rock” (Orlando), KTEG “The Edge” (Albuquerque), WYBB (Charleston) KPNT “The Point” (St. Louis), WBS “The Edge” (Phoenix), and KHBZ “The Buzz” (Oklahoma City), among others.

Meanwhile, this week, THE ALMOST has streamed their new SOUTHERN WEATHER album in its entirety for fans on their MySpace page: (www.myspace.com/thealmost).

GILLESPIE leads THE ALMOST on vocals and guitar and the band is rounded out by JAY VILARDI (guitar), ALEX APONTE (bass) and KENNY BOZICH (drums). GILLESPIE--who sings and performs virtually every note and instrument on his solo debut--teamed with acclaimed producer Aaron Sprinkle (Pedro The Lion) for SOUTHERN WEATHER.
SOUTHERN WEATHER is already garnering early critical praise. Here’s a sample:

“Although Underoath drummer Aaron Gillespie cites Dave Grohl as the drummer-turned-frontman inspiration for his brazenly unscreamo project The Almost, musically it has far more in common with late-’90s emo acts like Jimmy Eat World and Sense Field. Although Gillespie’s croon is still distinctive, the 11 driving tracks on Southern Weather--on which he played nearly every note--allow him to stretch and sing his heart out alongside gospel choruses (‘Amazing, Because It Is’) and melodic rock riffs (‘Everyone Here Smells Like A Rat’) with equal aplomb. However, the highlight of Southern Weather is ‘Dirty And Left Out,’ a confessional--and decidedly non-secular--duet with former Sunny Day Real Estate frontman Jeremy Enigk that’s chilling enough to give goose bumps to even the most stringent non-believers.”
--Jonah Bayer, ALTERNATIVE PRESS, May 2007, CD review

“Ask Underoath drummer/singer Aaron Gillespie about his biggest influence and he’ll tell you in a heartbeat: Dave Grohl is the man. No surprise then, that in his new side project The Almost, Gillespie has set aside Underoath’s ferocious post-hardcore for an arena-worthy alt-rock sound that’s understandably drawing him comparisons to the Foo Fighter’s honcho and ex Nirvana skinsman. …Their frontman’s trademark modesty aside, The Almost’s debut, Southern Weather, gives Gillespie’s musical hero a run for his money. From the monster power chords and dynamic fireworks of the first single ‘Say This Sooner’ to the gentle acoustic melancholia of ‘Dirty And Left Out’ (featuring ex Sunny Day Real Estate singer Jeremy Enigk on guest vocals), Gillespie has nailed the Foo Fighters formula as much as he’s expanded on it.”
--Aaron Burgess, REVOLVER-Feature, May 2007

“Aaron Gillespie represents the better half of Underoath’s vocal team, delivering discernable lyrics and sing-along choruses. Such musical pretty parts dominate The Almost, a side project that permits Gillespie to explore more straightforward songs. Underoath may be the biggest hardcore band in America, but The Almost balance emo sensitivity and moshworthy rock rhythms.”
--Jason Harper, THE PITCH, January 17, 2007 (Kansas City)

“The album opens with ‘Say This Sooner,’ whose shuffling snare and chik-chicking acoustic guitars make it clear from the start that The Almost is definitely not short for the Almost sounds like Underoath. …even when cranking up the volume, Gillespie opts for subdued tempos and patiently melodic hooks, and the results are typically pleasant if not overwhelmingly memorable. The moments on Southern Weather that stand out as particularly gratifying are those that find Gillespie scribbling a little further outside of the lines: the grunge-y, fuzzed out chorus of ‘Never Say I Told You So;’ the downright countrified ‘Dirty And Left Out.’”
--Daniel Taylor, SYNTHESIS, March/April 2007, CD review

“Southern Weather finds Gillespie--also the singing drummer of fan-favorite Christian powerhouse Underoath--stepping out from behind the drums to center stage to explore a less aggressive side of rock. There’s no screaming on Gillespie’s solo bow and cameos from Jeremy Engik (Sunny Day Real Estate) and the Starting Line’s Kenny Vasoli leave little doubt about Southern Weather’s melodic character.”
