WHO ZO2 - The Brooklyn rock trio who have been credited with "bringing the swagger back to rock 'n' roll" and are also described by Hustler as performing "rock 'n' roll the way it used to be: ballsy, soulful and ass-shakingly good." ZO2 are on the road supporting the release of their CD, AIN'T IT BEAUTIFUL, out on Riker Hill Records.
In between ZO2's packed tour schedule, the band is in production for their new hybrid TV show for the Independent Film Channel which celebrates the life and antics of this emerging band. The show begins production in the next couple of months.
ZO2's music is repeatedly described as classic rock melded with modern arrangements, lyrics and harmonies. They have a captivating stage presence that makes performing look easy; this may be partially attributable to their "training" on a 40-city tour with the masters: KISS and Poison. Drawing from these old-school rock 'n' roll influences, ZO2 has managed to create a sound all their own.
WHAT ZO2, Paulie Z (vocals, guitar), David Z (vocals, bass guitar) and Joey Cassata (drums, vocals) perform tracks from their Riker Hill Records release, AINT IT BEAUTIFUL.

Fender introduces American Standard guitar line
An American icon is setting a new American Standard. Fender, the company that popularized the electric guitar and invented the electric bass guitar, is introducing a new line of American Standard guitars, marking the first overall part-by-part detail improvement of the iconic instruments in eight years. Released in January 2008, the new American Standard series of guitars stay true to the original classic models that made them timeless, while incorporating modern advances in design, materials, and production to make them the most versatile instruments available to today’s players and pros.
In a perfect evolution of form, the American Standard series of instruments have adapted over time to continually meet the needs of every type of musician by relying on their input to fuel improvements. Rooted deeply in tradition, Fender instruments have stood the test of time and become American icons by continually responding to the evolving needs and desires of musicians while exceeding their expectations.
These classic American Fender instruments - the Stratocaster, Telecaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass - have sonically and visually influenced every genre of popular music for decades, including rock, blues, country, western swing, rockabilly, roots rock, punk rock, surf rock, hard rock, metal, Motown, progressive, jazz, funk, and grunge. Rock music itself, with all its myriad sub-genres, has evolved along the lines of these instruments.
“Rock ‘n’ roll history does not follow a straight line,” said Justin Norvell, senior marketing manager for Fender electric guitars. “Every generation has had its artists that made that line take a sharp turn in a new direction, whether it be the fuzz-drenched psychedelia of the ’60s, the angular punk of the ’70s or the sturm und drang of the “Seattle Sound” in the ’90s. At the forefront of all of those evolutions was Fender. Fender is ready for the next batch of players who will be creating and discovering that next sound.”
Following several years of research, experimentation, interviews with musicians, and isolated variable examination, Fender Musical Instruments Corp. has unveiled the new Fender American Standard series of guitars for 2008. With detailed improvements to the Stratocaster®, Telecaster®, Precision Bass® and Jazz Bass® guitars, this iteration of the American Standard series offers superior tone, performance, durability, and style, while retaining the quality and design that have made Fender instruments popular for more than half a century.
Relying on a reverse-engineering approach, Fender utilized precision tools and expert ears to isolate the elements that make their instruments so great: tone, comfort, playability and durability. Fender’s goal - to create instruments that inspire today’s players to “make history” with their music, from country to punk, blues to funk, and everything in between.
Significant improvements to the electric guitars include a redesigned bridge, new bent-steel saddles with elongated string slots, a new neck and body finish, and a Fender-exclusive high-tech molded case. Similarly, the bass guitars feature a new neck and body finish, a Fender-exclusive high-tech molded case, lightweight tuners, height-leveled pole pieces, and the new HMV high-mass vintage bridge. And for the first time, Fender will be offering the traditional Precision Bass® in a five-string passive version, taking the classic platform to a new level.
Leo Fender founded the company bearing his name in 1946 in Fullerton, Calif., and by 1950 was leading what has become the most potent creative surge in the history of electric instrument design and manufacture. Fender’s monumental accomplishments include designing the first commercially successful solid-body guitar - the Telecaster; the invention of the modern electric bass guitar, which transformed popular music; and the introduction of the most influential of all electric guitars—the Stratocaster.
With such an enormous effect on popular music worldwide, it is safe to say that music simply would not sound the way it does today without Fender instruments. Elegantly enduring and revered classics of design, the Telecaster, Stratocaster, Precision Bass and Jazz Bass guitars transformed the way that music was performed, recorded and perceived by the entire world such that their very existence fueled not only musical revolutions, but also cultural revolutions. They changed the way musicians work with their tools, facilitated new sounds and techniques, and revolutionized the way the entire industry designs and builds instruments.
“To take these instruments and to respect all of the classic aspects of their design—all of the things that Leo Fender got right at the outset, which are so remarkable—but also to say, ‘We can still improve perfection,’ is exactly the spirit that Leo Fender himself brought to his imaginative work every day,” said noted Fender historian and author Tom Wheeler. “The results of this reintroduction of the American Standard line will be very impressive to those who take great care and interest in every detail of their instruments.”
As testimony to their original rightness, Fender instruments have existed largely unchanged for more than half a century. Yet time and time again exciting new life is found in them by the myriad artists who are inspired to play a Fender and express themselves. Leo Fender himself was continually discovering new life in his instruments as he strove to improve upon his incredible designs. That spirit of innovation and the interrelation of artist and instrument are still driving forces at today’s Fender Musical Instruments Corporation.

Bob Mould to tour in March
Bob Mould, the genius behind seminal post-punk outfit Husker Du as well as the guiding force behind 90’s alternative-rock heavyweight Sugar, will tour the U.S starting March 5th. The tour will feature both classic material from Mould’s considerable body of work, as well as new songs from his forthcoming Anti- debut, District Line, hailed by USA Today as “a return to melodic, hypnotic rock for the Husker Du/Sugar eminence.”
District Line is being heralded as a return to form of sorts for Mould, a musician not afraid to push boundaries musically and perform outside of his expected range. Playing with drummer Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Mould describes the emotional, mature and uber-catchy record as “stories of my simple life in a complicated town,” and promised Billboard magazine “lots of guitars, shorter pop songs.”
Filter magazine enthused, “from the epic acoustic lament “Walls in Time” to the chunky-yet-polished “The Silence Between Us” and the jubilant pop of “Very Temporary,” this collection of songs neatly summates the range of Mould’s considerable abilities.”
Mould most recently toured in support of his live DVD “Circle of Friends.” Filmed in Oct 2005 at the legendary 9:30 Club in Mould’s adopted hometown of Washington DC, “Circle of Friends” is the first completely authorized live concert recording of Mould’s stellar show. In support of this release, Mould did a select number of performances which featured a 30 minute acoustic set and a question and answer period with Mould.
District Line promises to please long-time Bob Mould fans (which include everyone from the Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl to Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangaltar) and win new devotees. As anticipation for the long-awaited album intensifies, a preview of the record will be made available tomorrow, January 8, when a two song digital single for “The Silence Between Us” is released via iTunes and Amazon.
Additionally, Mould is scheduled to perform at the world famous Walt Disney Concert Hall tomorrow as part of the Concrete Frequency Series, which explores the intersection of art and the concept of the City.

Slash performs at Bill Gate's speech
Former GUNS N' ROSES axeman Slash performed a version of the band's classic "Welcome to the Jungle" at the end of Bill Gates' final Consumer Electronics Show keynote speech before retiring from Microsoft Sunday (January 6) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to the Digital Noise blog, "the final set piece featured a Guitar Hero III battle between Gates and Microsoft Entertainment and Devices President Robbie Bach. Each brought in a ringer - Bach got a Guitar Hero champion who shredded the introduction to GUNS N' ROSES' 'Welcome to the Jungle'. Gates, never to be trumped, brought in Slash, who played the real thing on his Les Paul through a pair of Marshall half-stacks."

Pacemaker, a professional pocket-sized DJ system, is here
Today, Swedish tech company Tonium Laboratories is proud to announce the release of Pacemaker, the world’s first professional pocket-sized DJ system. Designed with the aim of bringing people closer to their music and allowing them to creatively interact with their whole music collection, Pacemaker is the first of its kind anywhere in the world.
For the first time in history, everyone can have the power to create their own music. Imagine walking into a party with every record you own in your pocket, stored on the huge 120GB Pacemaker hard drive, plugging into the nearest sound system and DJ’ing like a professional. Envision the next time you’re on a bus or subway, instead of simply listening to your music you can completely interact with it, creating mixes of your favorite tunes, beat matching and using effects; the possibilities are only limited by your own imagination.
While Pacemaker is a product that speaks to fans of dance and electronic music, this ground breaking device will capture the imaginations of all music fans. Pacemaker will allow you to create mixes of any musical style, giving you the ability to seamlessly mix between tracks and to produce new sounds. What was once thought to be exclusively available to DJs and producers is now readily available to everyone. Pacemaker is the first product in the world that truly brings DJ’ing to the masses.
Pacemaker allows two tracks to be played simultaneously and boasts all the functionality of a full, professional DJ set up. The intelligent software will automatically work out the BPMs (beats per minute) of each of your tracks, enabling you to quickly learn to match the beats between two tracks and create a DJ mix. Pacemaker works with both PC and MAC and supports all the major audio formats including MP3, WAV, AAC, OGG and FLAC files.
Inventor of Pacemaker and founder of Tonium, Jonas Norberg comments, “We’re out to try something different; to bring people closer to the music they love and to let music lovers be creative with their passion. We aim to increase the diversity and reinforce the value of music by offering new means for people like us to creatively engage in what we love!”
Pacemaker will also offer the Pacemaker Editor to its users; a free, downloadable PC and Mac compatible computer application that allows you to play music and edit and create mixes. You can download mixes you have created from Pacemaker, or upload mixes to it from the Pacemaker Editor. You have complete freedom to be as forward thinking as you like with your music.
Pacemaker will also offer its users a community platform to legally share their saved DJ mixes. This music sharing platform is one of the foundations of the Pacemaker philosophy, to let people express and share their creativity and find inspiration from others. There is more to come on this innovation in the very near future…In the meantime, please welcome Pacemaker, the next step in the music interaction revolution.

Steve Seskin Bio: Steve Seskin is one of the most successful writers in Nashville today, with a boatload of songs recorded by Tim McGraw, Neal McCoy, John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Chesney, Collin Raye, Peter Frampton, Waylon Jennings, Alabama, and Mark Wills His song "Don't Laugh At Me" was recorded by Peter, Paul and Mary, was a finalist for CMA "Song of the Year" in 1999, and became the impetus for the Operation Respect/Don't Laugh at Me Project, a curriculum designed to teach tolerance in schools. This program has already been implemented in more than 20,000 schools across the country. Other Seskin hits include: "I Think About You," "Life's A Dance," "No Doubt About It," "If You've Got Love" and "Grown Men Don't Cry."
A Steve Seskin concert will have you wiping away a tear one minute and laughing out loud the next. His songs all have messages that touch the hearts of everyone: from the feelings of a little boy missing his father, to growing up and being true to yourself, to one of his most well know themes of being considerate to and respectful of one another as expressed in “Don’t Laugh at Me.
Kenny Edwards Bio: In 1965, Kenny was a co-founder of The Stone Poneys, along with Linda Ronstadt and Bobby Kimmel. The group made several albums on Capitol Records, toured, and became well-known in the new American folk-rock movement. After the Stone Poneys, Kenny lived and worked right in the heart of LA's "Troubadour days," that legendary period which solidified the California country-rock sound forever. It was then that he met Karla Bonoff, Wendy Waldman, and Andrew Gold who were all beginning their careers as writers and players. The four loved singing together so much they decided to become a group, and ultimately they were signed to A&M - this, by the way, was before some of their friends joined forces to form the Eagles. Kenny's group, Bryndle, made a record but was destined to be a springboard for the substantial careers of its members - not to be reunited until two decades later itself. Kenny Edwards went to work in Linda Ronstadt's band, along with Andrew Gold. These two were more than anyone else the backbone of the Ronstadt sound - and thus, much, much more. They played the records and sang on them, and toured extensively for many years. In Kenny's case, he also supplied Ronstadt with material - he introduced her to the music of Karla Bonoff, and he co-wrote with Linda himself on occasion. Audiences don't know how very familiar they are with the sound of Edwards' voice and his wonderful musicianship - but everyday somewhere in the world, those records are played and people are hearing him
Nina Gerber:
"Nina's guitar style is wide and brave. As she glides thru this record project, she uses each of her guitars as if it's the one she was born to play. Acoustic or electric, she sounds beautiful, smokey, precise, full of the licks you love to hear, even though it sounds like you're hearing them fresh, for the first time, and some of them... you are. She's a player, folks... we're lucky to have her near..." ...Herb Pedersen
"One of the best acoustic and electric guitarists in the folk genre.".:. Frets Magazine .:.
"One of the finest instrumentalists in the business.".:. Press Democrat .:.
Since her accompaniment of Kate Wolf first earned her recognition, her acute skills as performer, producer and arranger have continued to deepen. Her contributions to acoustic music have earned her a following as loyal as for the numerous high talents she has accompanied - proving the shadows equal to the spotlight in the creation of honest, powerful, and beautiful music.Nina has a unique ability to completely free herself within an eclectic range of styles. Presented with folk, country, bluegrass, rock, or blues, she is able to fall into leads which have rare reverence for the true feeling of a song, always emphasizing taste over technical display. She seeks to express through her hands, rather than gain attention, and it is this integrity which makes her expressions worth intent listening. That kind of intent listening will reveal Nina's melodic touch in more places than many realize. Nina has performed and/or recorded with: Nanci Griffith, Greg Brown, Lucy Kaplansky, Mollie O'Brien, Jerry Jeff Walker, Karla Bonoff, Ferron, Rosalie Sorrels, Barbara Higbie, John Gorka, Cheryl Wheeler, Terry Garthwaite, Tom Paxton, and many others.

Skyfire signs with Pivotal Rockordings
Swedish progressive death metallers SKYFIRE have signed with Florida’s Pivotal Rockordings. The band has entered Powernest Studios to begin recording their highly anticipated, as-of-yet-untitled follow-up to2004’s “Spectral.” Mixing and mastering will be handled by Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY) at Black Lounge Studios (SONIC SYNDICATE, SCAR SYMMETRY, THE ABSENCE, ZONARIA).
The group’s newest member, ELOHIM vocalist Joakim Karlsson comments: “I was honored when I was asked to join SKYFIRE. This is a challenge I could never turn down in a million years, and I cannot wait to hit the studio with the band and be a part of this album as well as future albums to come! It’s also an honor to be a part of the Pivotal Rockordings family. I'm excited to see what they can do for us and what we can do for them.”
Adds SKYFIRE bassist and founding member Martin Hanner: “It’s been almost four years since we released “Spectral” and we are overjoyed to finally say that we have signed a deal with an amazing record label and will get to work on our next album. We were talking with a few labels over these last few years, but none of them were as helpful and hard working as the Pivotal Rockordings guys, who we have been in touch with for over a year. At this point, we couldn’t imagine signing with anyone else!
“As far as the new album goes, expect the traditional SKYFIRE sound, but also expect some new elements that we have never experimented with before. We also cannot wait to work with Jonas Kjellgren, who will be mixing and mastering the new record. He is one of the most talented up and coming producers in metal right now, and we are certain that he will take SKYFIRE’s sound to the next level!”
Adds Pivotal Rockordings co-founder Leevan Macomeau: “It’s an honor to collaborate with such a world-class band as SKYFIRE. They have had some record label problems in the past and despite everything still managed to build a loyal fanbase! That alone says a lot about the perseverance and talent of SKYFIRE. After nearly a year of helping and communicating with the band I am proud to announce their signing of a three album record deal with Pivotal Rockordings! As Pivotal Rockordings grows out of its baby years, which saw the emergence of world-class acts SONIC SYNDICATE and ZONARIA, and we head into our adult years armed with multi-album deals for deathcore newcomers STIGMA and progressive death metal veterans SKYFIRE, expect us to continue providing a barrage of metallic goodness in 2008!”

ALL TIME LOW
All Time Low's debut album So Wrong, It's Right which debuted at #62 on the Billboard Top 200 after its release on September 25th and has now sold upwards of 53,000 including almost 4,000 this past week. ATL might just be the #1 pop punk buzz band on the scene right now...Fresh out of high school, they've sold almost 70,000 copies of their debut EP Put Up Or Shut Up, 42% digitally (which is a HUGE #) with almost no promotion or marketing behind it. It's been completely organic as they've been developing a rabid fanbase online and on the road. They were on Warped Tour all summer and the crowds got bigger and bigger at every show. They finished 2007 in style with big tours with the Plain White T's, The Starting Line and Boys Like Girls. Look for ATL headlining the Alternative Press Tour this Spring!
Additional Tour Dates without Mayday:

MAYDAY PARADE
Mayday Parade's debut album A Lesson In Romantics came out late this summer and has now scanned over 38,000 and counting! They hit #10 on the Billboard Heatseeker Chart this past week, selling over 3,000 records. Mayday sold also over 18,000 individual track downloads in the same week. Mayday Parade are a great story...two years ago they followed Warped Tour around in their van, played in the parking lot and sold CD's to kids in line (accumulating to 20,000 copies sold of their self-released EP). This year they were actually on Warped Tour and were one of the biggest stories on the tour, with more and more kids freaking out to their live show every day. For those who find themselves guilty of secretly (or openly) liking the All-American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Something Corporate or Taking Back Sunday - Mayday Parade is a band you need to check out ASAP. It's pop goodness at its most polished and most addictive.
