Mandala at Descanso Gardens Aug. 11
The trio that makes up Mandala have performed music of various genres in venues around the world. But their musical journey comes full circle when they share their passion for Latin music. Mandala will perform Thursday, Aug. 11, at Descanso Gardens. The concert begins at 5:30 p.m.
Pianist Jeff Goodkind, percussionist Louis Gonzales and bassist Sean Beale-Rosano are Mandala. Since forming the group last year, they have dedicated themselves to studying and sharing the traditional music of Cuba, Peru, Brazil and Spain. The concert is part of the Music on the Main summer jazz series, which continues Thursdays through Aug. 25 with a different jazz artist every week. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and picnics (normally not allowed in the Gardens) and settle back to savor the performance.
Descanso Gardens is open extended hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays through Aug. 25. The Camellia Lounge, featuring signature cocktails and light food fare, is open from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays through Aug. 25. Enjoy signature cocktails, beverages, snacks and fabulous appetizers prepared by Patina.

The Altadena Library Community Room Presents: Contemporary & Urban Landscapes, a Photographic Exhibit featuring Los Angeles based artists Janet E. Dandridge, Annie Fourguette, Nicole Fournier, Michael E. Stern, and Tina Wallin.
This exhibit addresses the artist’s interpretation of a city or neighborhoods physical or social characteristics through a traditional, abstract, figurative or conceptual method.
The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 5-9pm, in the Library’s Community Room at 600 East Mariposa Street, Altadena, CA 91001. The work will remain on display for the month of September.

Dream Theater to tour with Trivium
Dream Theater, who were recently voted one of the top 10 Prog Rock bands of all time by RollingStone.com readers, will return with A Dramatic Turn of Events, on September 13th. The band is armed with one of the most powerful efforts of their storied, iconic career.
The album marks the recorded debut of new drummer Mike Mangini, which fans are clamoring to hear. Roadrunner Records will issue the release in multiple versions that will be sure to delight the band's disciple-like fanbase.
In addition to the standard version, a special edition CD/DVD set will include The Spirit Carries On – a 60-minute movie documenting Dream Theater’s much-discussed drummer auditions; a double LP Set in gatefold jacket; and a Limited Deluxe Collector's Edition Box Set. The A Dramatic Turn of Events Deluxe Collector’s Edition Box Set includes the A Dramatic Turn of Events album; instrumentals of the entire album; the DVD of The Spirit Carries On; a double-LP Set of A Dramatic Turn of Events (180-Gram Vinyl in Gatefold Jacket); Dream Theater branded custom turntable slipmat; and a litho print of album. Also, 50 lucky winners will find a Dream Theater 'Ticket For Life,' which is randomly inserted into packaging. All the content will be housed in a custom box and those who purchase will receive a digital download of the album the day prior to release.
"It's a really cool collection dedicated to the art and music of our forthcoming release, along with a few awesome goodies," guitarist John Petrucci said.
Dream Theater are also planning to embark on a massive world tour, where they will play selections from A Dramatic Turn of Events, as well as classic, staples and fan favorites. Labelmates Trivium will appear on many dates, supporting their new album In Waves.
"We are all very pumped about the release of A Dramatic Turn of Events this September, as well as the world tour we'll embark upon in support of the album," said Petrucci. "Our first leg will bring us throughout North America where we'll showcase songs from the new album along with tons of fan favorites and a brand new tour production unlike any other that we've done before. About DREAM THEATER:
Progressive metal band Dream Theater formed in 1985 under the name Majesty by John Petrucci, John Myung and Mike Portnoy. He’s earned 15 number one singles, sold over 10 million albums and received numerous industry and fan-voted awards, three CMA Awards, five ACM Awards and an American Music Award.
In November 2007, John Michael launched his own label, Stringtown Records, taking on the role of Chief Executive Officer. He’ll release his tenth studio album, Time Flies, in 2008, which he’s producing with Byron Gallimore. The album’s first single – the introspective ballad “If You Ever Went Away” - marks John Michael’s first return to the airwaves since “Letters From Home,” (2004) reached #2 on Billboard’s Country Singles chart.
Born Jan. 20, 1965, in Danville, Ky., John Michael Montgomery arrived on the country music scene in 1993 with a debut album, Life's a Dance, which became the only million-seller on the country charts by a new artist that year. Its title track was a No. 4 hit single and was followed by his first country #1 single, "I Love the Way You Love Me." The follow-up, Kickin' It Up, hit the top spot on both the country and adult contemporary charts and produced four more successful singles, the chart-topping "I Swear," "Be My Baby Tonight," "If You Got Love" and the No. 4 single "Rope the Moon."
John Michael and his older brother, Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry, received musical encouragement from their father, who performed in a local country band and taught his son his first chords. He joined the family band as guitarist before taking the lead singing role when his parents divorced. Afterwards, he made a frugal living on the local honky-tonk scene as a solo artist playing what he referred to as "working man's country." Eventually, Atlantic Records signed him, and he became part of the ‘90s wave of honky tonk hitmakers that brought country to new commercial heights.
John Michael made his name primarily as a romantic balladeer showing an undeniable knack for finding hit songs and giving them just the right emotion or energy they need. This strong track record has consistently kept him at the top of the radio charts.
"I've been singing since I was a kid,” he says. “And I've been very fortunate to have a lot of peaks and valleys in my career; seeing a lot of changes since 1992. The main thing I've learned is to just be myself, to treat people kindly, and if you give radio a good song, they'll play it. "We are putting together one hell of a playlist for this tour with lots of fresh material from WTF?! as well as some killer classics and maybe even a surprise or two," Sascha shared.
Joining KMFDM on the WTF?! tour are Army of the Universe, 16Volt (Aug. 3 to 14 only) and Human Factors Lab. Army of the Universe, an Italian industrial duo, recently released their debut album Mother Ignorance on Metropolis Records. The band features renowned European DJ Albert Vorne aka Trebla. Chris Vrenna (Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM), will join Army of the Universe for a handful of dates (noted below). 16Volt released Beating Dead Horses, the Portland band's seventh studio album, in May. Human Factors Lab will be debuting their new EP We All Fall Down on the tour.

Puddle of Mudd's "Gimme Shelter" on iTunes Aug. 2
Puddle Of Mudd’s version of The Rolling Stones classic “Gimme Shelter” will be the first single from their forthcoming album re:(disc)overed. The track will be made available on iTunes beginning tomorrow, August 2nd.
The band’s new album, re:(disc)overed, lands on August 30th. For this release, Puddle Of Mudd dig back into their own past for the songs that turned them on to becoming musicians in the first place.
re:(disc)overed includes such classics as AC/DC’s “TNT,” Steve Miller’s “The Joker,” Elton John’s “Rocket Man,” the Stevie Nicks/Tom Petty duet “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” (which Puddle Of Mudd recorded with BC Jean), Neil Young’s “Old Man,” and of course the first single, “Gimmie Shelter.” The album finds Puddle Of Mudd tackling classic rock songs as only they know how.
“Our goal in interpreting these songs was to pay more tribute rather than reinvent,” Phillips added. “These are all classics that are perfect in every sense, so who are we to mess with that? We just wanted to represent them in their true form and add a little of our sound to them. We cut everything with very few takes and tried to keep it very live like those old seventies records. We didn't want to Pro Tool the hell out of it.”
Puddle Of Mudd will take part in the ROCK ALLEGIANCE TOUR which begins on August 24th in Dallas. The tour also features Buckcherry, Papa Roach, P.O.D., Red, Crossfade and Drive A.
Over the past decade the band have sold over 6 million albums worldwide and collected nine Top 20 rock hits including seven, which went straight to #1 on the charts. Puddle Of Mudd’s impact at rock radio over the past decade is undeniable.

Sergio Mendes free concert in GlendaleAug. 4
On Thursday, August 4 at 7:30 p.m., The Americana at Brand in partnership with Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, will host legendary Brazilian performer Sergio Mendes. Celebrating the Blu-Ray and DVD release of “RIO: The Movie” for which he composed the soundtrack, Mendes will have The Americana at Brand crowd on their feet when he performs his famous Brazilian beats and melodies.
Mendes sky rocketed to global stardom with Brasil ’66, continued to win fans over with the #1 hit “Never Gonna Let You Go” and eventually won a Grammy Award for the smash hit album “Brasileiro.” Mendes collaborated with will.i.am and The Black Eyed Peas on the uber-catchy hit song “Mas Que Nada” which was featured on the soundtrack to the hit 3-D animation feature RIO. His recently released “Celebration: A Musical Journey” brings together more than three dozen hits spanning his storied career as the master of the Bossa Nova beat.
2Cellos featuring 24-year old rising stars and award winning cellists from Croatia, Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, will kick-off the evening. Launching to fame when they captivated YouTube viewers with their fiery rendition of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal,” these talented cellists are taking the U.S. by storm, recently appearing on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and touring this fall with the legendary Elton John. The concert is produced by Chris Isaacson Presents, who has produced and promoted over 450 events and some of the most influential stars of his generation.
