Two years after releasing the heralded The Young Meteors, Greg Summerlin is once again behind the microphone for his most epic and poignant album to date, All Done In Good Time: The Life and Times of Polly Shields. Leaving behind the warm Alabama fall, Summerlin joined producer Ed Ackerson (The Replacements, Golden Smog, Brian Setzer, Juliana Hatfield) in a cozy Minneapolis studio. Together, with grandiose Who-like execution, Summerlin and Ackerson triumphed in delivering a sincere album with songs to hook you into a sing along or embrace you in an epic tale. Unafraid to wrestle with his own inspirations, Summerlin uses personal tragedy and triumph to unite four characters in a fluid album that plays like a 50-minute symphonic melodrama incorporating philosophy, theology, the meaning of life, and rock and roll.
Although Summerlin has always been a huge fan of The Who, that interest was rekindled when he read the Keith Moon biography ”Moon” by Tony Fletcher. He then bought the remixed and remastered CD of Tommy and became somewhat obsessed with the record and with The Who as a band. Summerlin’s amazement at the genius behind Tommy, and the enormity of the record’s concept, continues today. Musically speaking, however, the influences on Summerlin’s latest effort are much more diverse, and include what Summerlin cheekily calls “classic alternative,” like New Order.
About the time Summerlin was immersing himself in Tommy, he woke up in the middle of the night one evening and started writing the All Done In Good Time track “Please Don't Tell” and thinking about making a record with a storyline centered on a frustrated, disillusioned girl who rebels against her father. Although Summerlin had already written several songs that appear on the record, he retooled some of the lyrics to fit this storyline and started writing the rest of the album which now centers around four main characters: “Polly“ (the name taken from Keith Moon's daughter), “Mr. Shields”, “Johnny” and “Timmy.” Summerlin wrote more than 24 songs for All Done In Good Time, and eventually settled on the fourteen which make up the heart of the tale and appear on the finished record.

Mr. Shields is a single father raising Polly. Polly’s mother leaves the family for unstated reasons (“Shine On Where You Want”). Mr. Shields is overbearing and controlling for fear of Polly being corrupted by the world, and instead of protecting her, he ends up driving her away (“Just Listen Tonight”, “This Darkened World”.) Polly becomes bitter and rejects her father and his beliefs. We then meet Timmy, who enters the scene and falls in love with Polly (“Atmosphere”.) Simultaneously, Polly’s good friend Johnny develops feelings for Polly that he can’t bring himself to confess. Johnny thinks Timmy is a bad guy and wants to warn Polly but never does (“He's A Faker”). Polly eventually has a baby by Timmy, who eventually leaves her and the child (“Please Don't Tell”, “It's My Life”.) Polly becomes more depressed and bitter (“A New Birth”, “Plastic Roses”.) Then God comes into Polly’s life to make her aware that He sees everything that has happened (“The Paintaker”.) At this time, Johnny reappears and reestablishes a friendship with Polly (“Unlucky In Love”). Polly then begins to work at coming to terms with everything that has happened to her, and trying to understand it all, all while dealing with the situation with Johnny (“Redemption”.) Summerlin purposely don't have a tidy, clean ending to the story, but the essence of the album’s closing track (“The Final Plan”) is that both Mr. Shields and Polly have made mistakes that they hope to learn from, and that God is in control.

Nonpoint to release fifth studio album

Rainman's debut available in September
Hailing from Jackson "Jack Town" Mississippi, a city so infamous for its crime-riddled streets that it is routinely in the FBI's top ten list for most violent crime cities, is veteran street soldier/lyricist named Rainman, whose Chime Entertainment debut album BIGGA THAN LIFE will be released on September 11, 2007.

Dange Mouse busy with new effort and other projects
Six-time nominated, two-time Grammy-winning artist/producer Danger Mouse - half of the #1-selling mega-duo Gnarls Barkley, half of the way-out cartoon-based collaboration Dangerdoom, and sonic architect for the Rapture, Gorillaz, and Sparklehorse - is keeping himself busy. Even for him.
In July, he wrapped up producing Martina Topley-Bird's long awaited sophomore album entitled The Blue God. Best known for her work with trip-hop pioneer Tricky, the British star's debut Quixotic (2003) received rave reviews and was a finalist for that year's Mercury Music Prize. The Blue God will be released in 2008 on the influential label Independiente.
As with many Danger Mouse productions, the album was a collaborative project with Danger Mouse contributing his songwriting and performing talents alongside his unmistakable production.Danger Mouse is currently in the studio producing The Black Keys' fourth album, as yet untitled, but set for release in 2008 on Nonesuch.
The Akron-based blues-rock duo, known for their stripped-down aesthetic, their passionate fanbase and their hit "Have Love Will Travel," have never worked with an outside producer before Danger Mouse. Expect a career-pivoting record.
Danger Mouse recently finished producing a new album for the London-based Shortwave Set tentatively entitled Replica Sun Machine. The record features a 24-piece orchestra conducted by Van Dyke Parks (noted for his work with the Beach Boys, Joanna Newsom and other misfit geniuses), with further contributions from The Velvet Underground's John Cale. Replica Sun Machine is expected to be released in early 2008.
The Shortwave Set is already buzzing in the UK - the [London] Times called their debut disc "rich and inventive," while the Daily Telegraph simply said that it was "Fabulous."

Unbound by intellectual convention, the music of Jose Ayala aka Mofongo balances the past and future, assembling a vivid collage of musical influences that transforms customs while preserving their essence. His new EP, Tumbao from Aagoo Records (Au, Zemog El Gallo Beuno) combines found sounds, samples and field recordings with a rhythmic complexity influenced by traditional Latin music.
Growing up in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Ayala was inspired by Salsa, Tom Zé, Fela Kuti, Varèse and Dub. He moved to Boston to study classical guitar at the New England Conservatory, but was sidelined by tendonitis. He returned a year later to study classical composition and improvisation under Joe Maneri and Ran Blake and began playing in the experimental salsa band, Jayuya.
The physical and interpersonal demands of playing live for fours years took its toll and Ayala soon began to experiment with electronic music. His roommate at the time, Keith Fullerton Whitman, introduced him to bedroom production and with access to Whitman's huge record collection, Ayala began making music in a completely different way. Ayala’s process can begin with anything — a stray sound, melody or drum track. Slowly, he adds, subtracts and reshuffles, trying not to force anything and letting the sounds find their place among themselves.
At times abrasive, the music confronts the listener and commands attention. Ayala continues to move forward as an artist and experiment with new technologies. He is currently designing “The Plantain Maker,” live-looping software that will allow him to use large library of evolving sounds in live performances, pushing further the improvisational aspects of his eclectic and personal music.

See Dengue Fever for free

Dengue Fever's uncommon pop/world music sound has garnered critical acclaim since their eponymous debut CD, and their 2005 release Escape From Dragon House has brought them to a global audience, widening their exposure. The Los Angeles band has spent much of the last two years touring the globe, winning over new fans in the United States, Canada as well as Europe.
A documentary on Dengue Fever, entitled Sleepwalking Through the Mekong recently premiered at the Silver Lake Film Festival and will be featured at other festivals throughout the year. Directed by John Pirozzi and produced by Film 101, Sleepwalking chronicles the band's first shows outside the United States in lead singer Ch'hom Nimol's homeland of Cambodia, marking the first time a Western-based band performed Khmer Rock in Cambodia since Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge took over the country in 1975.
This fall, Dengue Fever will be performing some west coast and southwest tour dates, and will perform at WOMEX, the world music festival in Spain. The band’s third CD, Venus On Earth, will be released in 2008.

Dengue Fever's uncommon pop/world music sound has garnered critical acclaim since their eponymous debut CD, and their 2005 release Escape From Dragon House has brought them to a global audience, widening their exposure. The Los Angeles band has spent much of the last two years touring the globe, winning over new fans in the United States, Canada as well as Europe.

BMI presents four sizzling hot up-and-coming songwriters at the Monday, September 10 edition of its Acoustic Lounge showcase series at Genghis Cohen: Jason Moss, Elena Mitrano, Tom Pritchard and Colin Armstrong. The Acoustic Lounge takes place the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Born in New Jersey, Jason Moss started playing guitar and writing songs at the ripe old age of ten. Soon after, his family relocated to Venezuela where his stepfather headed up the International School in Caracas. While there, Jason was introduced to the local rhythms and musical vitality of South America which continues to influence his music After moving back to the States, Jason lived in New Jersey, New York and Arizona.
While recording his first album Tumbling Down in Los Angeles, Jason fell in love with the energy of the city and settled here in 2000. Now making his living as a singer, songwriter, TV & film composer and music producer, Jason owns and operates a boutique music company called Supersonic Music.
Elena Mitrano was born in the U.S, but grew up in New Zealand. She has been to countries on all corners of the globe, speaks numerous languages and is an accomplished dancer. She has studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and has a B.A in Journalism from the American University in Washington, DC. As a child, Elena was known as Hilary, daughter of Dr. Elizabeth Morgan, the center of a bitter and infamous international custody battle which thrust the unwilling child into the limelight.
Now twenty-two years old, Elena lives in Los Angeles, has reclaimed her family name and found her own voice by interpreting the tales of her unusual life, trials, tears and travels into song.The sound of San Diego band Dynamite Walls has been compared to everything from Coldplay to John Mayer, and from the Beatles to Van Morrison.
Lead vocalist and songwriter Tom Pritchard believes (along with the rest of his band) that great songs should tell a story and touch the lives of people both young and old.
“I write about everyday things, the good and the bad,” says Pritchard.
Led by his bold and honest song writing, the band has found a growing fan base that continues to demand more of the quartet’s creative works. With recent interest from major labels, Dynamite Walls is poised at the edge of stardom and eager to share their music with the world.
Twenty-five year old Colin Armstrong is a native San Diegan currently residing in Los Angeles. Colin's first break came about four years ago when he won the "BE A STAR" contest hosted by Ryan Seacrest on STAR 98.7 FM.
In 2005, Colin's song, "Lonely Fall," won Best Male Vocal and Best Song at the Orange County Music Awards. Colin also received a 2006 L.A. Music Awards nomination for “Pop Song of the Year” for his song entitled “Hey Yoko.” Colin's song "In Your Eyes" which he co-wrote with Mikal Reid, Marti Frederiksen, and Bryon Holley made it to the finals of the 2007 American Idol Songwriter contest. Colin spent the summer of '07 touring in support of his debut album Lost and Anonymous, which was released independently in June.

Malibu Performing Arts Center (MPAC) is located in the middle of downtown Malibu and is the premier concert venue and performance hall on the west side of Los Angeles. On Saturday, September 29th, 2007, MPAC presents a benefit concert for City of Hope, a leading research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
