Thrash legends Testament have announced upcoming tour dates for 2008. The band will be touring to support their April 29 release of “The Formation of Damnation.” The album marks Testament’s Nuclear Blast debut, and it is the first new studio album from the band since 1999’s landmark “The Gathering.”
“The Formation of Damnation” features the classic lineup of Chuck Billy on vocals, Eric Peterson and Alex Skolnick on guitar, and Greg Christian on bass...PLUS the venerable Paul Bostaph (Slayer, Testament, Forbidden) on drums. The band called on Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Trivium, Chimaira) who has been waiting nine years to engineer and mix the forthcoming album.
Guitar World calls the album “unrelentingly rifftastic and ominously titled,” and Decibel counted “The Formation of Damnation” as one of the Top 25 Most Anticipated Albums of 2008.
Testament has also re-issued two classic albums, 1997’s “Demonic” and 1999’s “The Gathering” through Prosthetic Records. Both are available now. Prosthetic will also be re-issuing 2001’s “First Strike Still Deadly” in March with new art.
Praise continues to pour in from the many people who have been influenced by Testament’s music:
“Testament is one of the most underrated classic bands out there. They should be looked at as one of the pioneers of the metal scene, right up there with Metallica and Slayer.” – Mark Hunter, Chimaira
“Far and away one of the most influential bands in all of modern metal. While other veteran acts soak up much of the spotlight with sing a-longs, Testament maintains the unsurpassed musicianship, integrity and brutality that continue to create an untouchable legacy.” – Chris Adler, Lamb of God
“Testament is THE band who got me into metal and made me want to write and play music, & I am VERY much looking forward to the new album” - Jesper Strömblad, In Flames
Don’t miss Testament as they tour to support the April 29th release of the highly anticipated new album, “The Formation of Damnation.”

Averse Sefira announces tour to support new effort
Candlelight Records confirms February 12 as the American release date for Advent Parallax, the new full-length album from Texas-based Averse Sefira. Produced by Tore Stjerna (Watain, In Battle), the album features stunning artwork created by renowned artist/illustrator Jos A. Smith (cover artist for the first Bathory album). Averse Sefira is considered one of America's premiere black metal bands yet Advent Parallax is the trio's first in their already decade-long career to find proper international distribution.
Prior to the album's release, the band will team up with Rotting Christ, Immolation, and Belphegor for a 26-day American tour. Set to kick off February 4 at the Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte, North Carolina the tour will circle the US before ending at the Meridian in Houston on March 2.
"It is an exciting prospect to tour with such an excellent selection of bands, particularly our long-time allies in Immolation," says bassist Wrath Sathaniel Diabolus. "Together we will cast open the furnaces of damnation and scorch the claws of winter. The outing will also serve as the harbinger for our newest infliction Advent Parallax. This album is our definitive worship-made-weapon, one that shall galvanize the believers and confound the uninitiated."
Signing with Candlelight Records in late 2006, Averse Sefira's recording history dates to 1996. The band have recorded three albums all released by small/international record labels prior to Advent Parallax. Candlelight reissued a remastered version of the band's second release, Battle's Clarion, in early 2007 in support of their tour with labelmates 1349. The Saw Doctors announce American tour
West Ireland based rock band, The Saw Doctors announce their Spring 2008 American Tour: a non-stop 16 city run beginning February 26 in Annapolis MD and concluding March 17 in Northampton, MA. Most notably, The Saw Doctors will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day Weekend onstage in New York City, with two shows at the famed Nokia Theater.
“The Saw Doctors sing earnest, folk-rocking anthems of small-town life “for those who feel they’ve been mistreated/Discriminated, robbed or cheated.” In Ireland their populism has brought them a huge national following; even in New York City, there should be plenty of voices with brogues singing along.”
Jon Pareles The New York Times
Just prior to their arrival in the U.S., The Saw Doctors are to be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2008 Meteor Irish Music Awards. The televised presentation and ceremony will take place Friday, February 15 in the RDS, Dublin and will include a special live performance by the band. Previous recipients of the award include, The Pogues, Clannad, Bob Geldof, and The Dubliners .
2008 marks the 20th Anniversary of The Saw Doctors musical career which includes three Irish Number One singles, a UK Top Ten album and sold out shows in over 10 different countries including the USA, Canada, Australia, Germany, Holland and the UK. The Saw Doctors will kick off a year long celebration with a one-off Dublin show on February 22 before the five piece band embark on their month long USA tour which visits Chicago, Washington DC, Boston and Cleveland.
In the spring of 1988, when The Saw Doctors were playing a four-week residency at the Quays Bar, Galway, their energetic live show attracted the attention of The Waterboys who were nearby recording ‘Fisherman’s Blues’. Pub sessions and budding friendships among the musicians would prove fruitful for the Saw Doctors' future, and would see eventual crossovers between the two groups. The band's current bass player Anthony Thistlethwaite was the former sax player for The Waterboys.
Both bands remain interconnected through musicianship and friendship.
“Much has changed since the Saw Doctors formed in Ireland in 1988. What remains the same is the group's sonic attack — gritty, rollicking and inspired.”
PhillyBurbs.com
The Saw Doctors revolve around the songwriting partnership of Davy Carton (Vocals) and Leo Moran (Guitars). On stage line-up also includes former Waterboy, Anthony Thistlethwaite (Bass Guitar, Saxophone), Kevin Duffy (Keyboards, Vocals), Eimhin Cradock (Drums, Vocals).
The Galway band has made over 50 successful trips to the USA since their first visit in 1991 including the recent Summer 2007 string of US dates where the band had the distinction of appearing along with The Black Crowes at the Irish Connections Festival in Canton, MA and captivating West Coast audiences with their performance at one of the nation’s premiere outdoor music events; The 24th Annual California Strawberry Festival.
“…A Saw Doctors concert is like going to a joyous church service: There is a huge communal feeling, some comforting ritualistic traditions and plenty of great music. The Irish rock 'n' rollers put on yet another stellar and uplifting show that clocked in at about two hours before a near-capacity crowd.”

The Saw Doctors are on tour in support of their rarities release:
‘That Takes The Biscuit – 23 Assorted Tracks by The Saw Doctors’
That Takes The Biscuit (Shamtown Records) includes studio recordings of the hilarious ‘I'm Never Gonna Go on Bebo Again’ (Bebo is an Irish networking Web site, much like MySpace), the mid tempo fan favorite ‘She’s Got It’, early demos from the late eighties of songs such as ‘Ways of the World’, and several live tracks from the December 2002 London Shepherds Bush Empire show. In all, the new CD features twenty three ‘rare’ recordings that as a whole serve to showcase the sheer variety of musical influences (pop, rock, folk and traditional Irish music) that make up The Saw Doctors' signature sound.
“These folksy lads leave their saws at home and bring Springsteen-like rock with an Irish accent.”
Boston Herald
About The Saw Doctors
The Saw Doctors enjoy an enthusiastic following both at home and abroad. The band’s international fan base displays the sort of fervor for the music and the live show that has them often compared to fans of the Grateful Dead. Fueled by those in Ireland as well as those of Irish descent in the US, UK, and elsewhere, this unofficial fan club prides itself on seeing the Docs as many times as possible. They regularly meet online in a forum on the band's website and maintain a lively and global conversation about the band.
During the past two years, The Saw Doctors have toured non-stop throughout Europe, USA, the UK and Ireland. With their song “I Useta Lover” The Saw Doctors can claim the biggest selling single in Ireland, outselling Irish icons, U2, Sinead O’Connor and Van Morrison.
In a Saw Doctors' song, you'll listen in vain for the usual swaggering rock clichés about life on the road, drug problems and easy sex. Instead, continuing the tradition of all-time greats from Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams, their songs range from bringing in the harvest, to running away to join the army; from the plight of Ireland's unmarried mothers to the effect of strong religion on a nation's youth; from playing Gaelic football against a neighboring village to loving the prettiest girl in town but lacking the courage to tell her.
Previous band CD’s include: If This Is Rock and Roll, I Want My Old Job Back (1991), All The Way From Tuam (1992), Same Oul Town (1996), Songs From Sun Street (1998), Villains? (2002), The Cure (2006).

The Matches to release third album in March
Indie-pop-rock group the Matches will release their third studio album, A Band In Hope, on March 18th via Epitaph Records. Known for their innovative take on music and far out charm, the Matches have created a record that is a striking mix of affective rock, poetic lyrics and rollicking indie riffs, fueled by singer/guitarist Shawn Harris’ ardent vocals.
Originally conceptualized as the sister album of 2006’s Decomposer, A Band In Hope finds the Matches in a matured state of self-reflection. “The portrait is more honest, exposed and layered than we’ve ever been able to achieve,” says Harris. “A pendulum’s sway between hope and despair.”
With a new-found focus and drive, the group called upon some of music’s top innovative producers to helm the recording, who included John Feldmann (Story of the Year, The Used) and Mike Green (Paramore, Good Charlotte) among others. The results were exceptionally distinctive tracks like the first single, “Wake The Sun,” which features hypnotic sing-along choruses ironically paired with the world-weary attitude of the verses, and the retro 80’s anthem “Their City,” which SPIN.com describes as “a musical call-to-arms for their contemporaries.”
“Like a seasoned boxer, the Matches know how to stick and move, as the band show they're capable of maneuvering from one sound to the next” (SPIN.com). The Matches’ unique genre-bending style draws on a plethora of influences ranging from rock and art-pop to alternative and indie, as heard in songs like the piano driven epic “Darkness Rising,” and the poignantly rocking “Between Halloweens.”
The Matches’ creativity extends well beyond their music and is illustrated, literally and figuratively, in their album artwork, which Harris has been designing since the Matches’ debut and most recently with the help of graphics collaborator Emilee Seymour. And it doesn’t stop there. From styling their photo sessions to sewing their own clothes, the Matches’ inimitable style is especially evident on stage with their kinetic, electrifying and emotional performances. In anticipation of the forthcoming release, fans and critics can catch the Matches live at SXSW and on the 2008 AP Tour this spring.

Crammed Discs offers two top global music releases in April
On April 1, Crammed Discs presents exciting new releases from two artists on top of the global music scene with DJ Dolores 1 Real and Think Of One Camping Shaâbi.
Using elements of popular music from his native Brazilian Northeast, blended with dancefloor-friendly electronics, horns, and rock & dub influences, BBC World Music Award winner DJ Dolores (aka Helder Aragão) has created 13 exhilarating songs that are contagiously joyful, yet based on the observation of a grim political and social subtext.
DJ Dolores found some of his inspiration for 1 Real in the music he heard in Brasília Teimosa, one of his hometown Recife's poor areas, on which his photographer friend Bárbara Wagner was doing a pictorial essay (now published in book form). The music is based on traditional rhythms, beefed up by electric guitars, drum machines and lo-fi computer programming. From forró to the music of the Jovem Guarda (the Young Guard of romantic Brasilian rock from the '60s), everything is incorporated into a format adapted to an audience which hopes to hear their life narrated and encapsulated in a song. The lyrical content goes from harsh social comment to personal, humorous notes on men/women relationships.
Lead by David Bovée, Think Of One's Camping Shaâbi integrates traditional Moroccan elements into the fabric of the band's characteristic sound & compositions, to create a strange, original and delightful musical object. The main impulse behind this album comes from Think Of One's immoderate love for Moroccan shaâbi, that popular style which is directly derived from traditional Berber music and from its irresistible rhythms. Shaâbi songs were originally (and still are) performed at parties and weddings, mostly in an urban environment. Many songs start off from the typical Berber 12/8 rhythm the hallmark of Moroccan shaâbi which sometimes becomes hardly recognizable as it is transmuted into some bizarre form of R'n'[Shaa]B[eat] (as in the title track), or into a quasi-punk cavalcade (in Alela Minena, based on a traditional counting rhyme). The album also includes tinges of abrasive rock (Hamdushi Five, based on a different North-African rhythm), of jazz (the always inventive horn arrangements), of electronica (with plenty of subtle sound treatments and deliciously vintage-sounding keyboards), of dub and Hip-Hop (Oppressor).
Let's not forget the lyrics: sometimes surreal and dream-like, but often connected to social issues which concern the band (racist stupidity, for instance, in the hilarious and politically explosive Trap het af). Other examples: the autobiography of an old car, recycled as a taxi (J'étais Jetée) or the uncanny Mon Verre and its evocation of certain dangers with which lonely female moviegoers can be confronted.
