ASPCA partners with DoSomething.org and offering grants for youth

In an effort to educate America’s youth about the importance of animal welfare, the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) and DoSomething.org, an online community where young people learn and take action to make the world a better place, have partnered to launch a comprehensive online resource for young people who care about animals at www.dosomething.org/aspca

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to provide pertinent information about animal welfare and to empower young people to 'do something' to make a difference in the lives of animals," says Sheryl Pipe, the ASPCA’s Senior Director of Humane Education. “Partnering with Do Something is a natural progression of our mission, which is to provide effective means for the prevention of cruelty to animals.”

To inaugurate this exciting partnership, both the ASPCA and Do Something will award ten $500 grants for creative, youth-led, problem-solving community service projects about animal welfare.

Applicants must be 25 years old or younger and a resident of the United States or Canada. Successful entries should be youth-oriented projects regarding animals, with a focus on the community. Submissions are due September 30th and winners will be announced on October 13 on DoSomething.org. Submission instructions are located at www.dosomething.org/grants

“Kids are born with compassion,” says Nancy Lublin, CEO of Do Something. “Together, I know we can turn teen passion for animal welfare into action for animal welfare.”

According to research by Do Something, animal welfare consistently ranks in the top three issues of concern to young people. Through the use of a philanthropic, animal-centric web page, complete with information provided by the ASPCA, a new generation of animal lovers will be inspired to “do something” to help the nation’s pets.
