Hitchin' Cricket salutes soldiers with new CD

Outlaw Country music is really all about making the best out of troubled times, about soothing those down home blues and celebrating the little things in life.

Hitchin’ Cricket certainly understands this, and they have been making their distinctive brand of outlaw country for a full ten years now. So there must be at least a few people out there who agree with this train engine band!

This Pennsylvania group will celebrate their first decade of music by kicking off their fall schedule with a performance at the 17th annual Frontier Days at Chet’s Place in Union Dale, PA. They’ll be releasing their third CD that carries that town’s name, “Union Dale.”

Indeed, Union Dale is a perfect anthology of everything that makes a Hitchin’ Cricket live show so special. They describe their new album as an eighth of outlaw country and an ounce of raw blues and rock ‘n’ roll rolled up tightly for the third album release. Union Dale is country, blues and rock 'n' roll medication for your family, friends, saloons, lovers and our soldiers.

With inspiration coming from the pantheon of country and folk greats like Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Bob Dylan, Hitchin’ Cricket makes music for the common man. In this case, it is the men and women serving America oversees as much as those left behind to do the work. It is music that will remind everyone of the good old’ fashioned delights of home.

The title track of Union Dale, as well as Magic Poo, I’ll Take The Man Out, and Sugar Blue are all rooted in that special feeling you get from listening to raw music from the land you were raised in. But Hitchin’ Cricket’s sound has a sensitive side too, as shown on Dream Love and In The Muddy Room. Mountain Sky and Bended War Blues Overture was written for our soldiers and their families.

All in all, this record is about the full range of human emotions we all portray and the tug-of-war between law and order that’s currently being played out in our current political environment. Outlaw country music is the balance between emotions and the law. But that’s not to say there can’t be a healthy dose of fun along the way.

And never let it be said that Hitchin’ Cricket, and the music they make, don’t know how to have some fun. They are writing songs for the common man, for the soldier away at war and for the folks back home. And they all want to be reminded that life is there to be enjoyed. That’s why a Hitchin’ Cricket show is as much about cracking open the brews and toasting “socials” as it is singing their smooth down home melodies. The brilliance of Union Dale is that the very same atmosphere comes across on the record.

So take yourself off the beaten track for once and discover the music of Hitchin’ Cricket. You won’t be disappointed.
