What started as a “light bulb” moment experienced by Daryl Hall has turned into an online sensation, with the superstar “playing music with my friends and putting it up on the Internet.”
The sixth, and latest, edition of Live From Daryl’s House, recorded during Daryl Hall’s acclaimed solo appearance at the South by Southwest music conference in Austin, TX, last month, will debut at www.livefromdarylshouse.com on April 15 at 8 p.m.
Previous versions have included appearances by U.K. singer-songwriter KT Tunstall and Gym Class Heroes’ Travis McCoy, a longtime Hall fan, as well as a holiday special featuring songs from the Daryl Hall and John Oates release, Home for Christmas.
Daryl Hall’s show at the packed Austin Convention Center featured him performing a number of his classics, including “You Make My Dreams Come True,” “Everything Your Heart Desires,” “Cab Driver,” “Can’t Stop Dreaming,” “Someone Like You,” “Uncanny” and “Foolish Pride,” among many others.
Variety’s Phil Gallo marveled: “His songs sound fresh and modern; the 10-song concert thoroughly drove home that point.”
The entire performance will be broadcast in May on DirecTV in high definition digital.
And while this latest edition of Live from Daryl’s House doesn’t technically take place at one of Hall’s residences in New York, New England, London or the Bahamas, the enthusiastic reception he enjoyed in Austin was enough to make him feel at home.
“What a pleasure it was to meet so many people interested in me and my music,” he said. “It certainly won’t be the last time I go to SXSW. It was an amazing experience for me.”
Next month, Daryl Hall and John Oates will return to L.A.’s famed Troubadour for the first time in 35 years for a pair of special, intimate concerts on May 22-23. Limited are available for $200 apiece at Ticketmaster.com, starting Friday April 11 at 1 p.m. (PT).
Just two days before that, Daryl and John will be honored as BMI Icons, when the best-selling pop-rock duo of all time are saluted with a musical tribute at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in L.A. on May 20.
