Called “blistering and nervously confrontational" by Alternative Press Magazine, the UK’s Dead Swans released their full-length debut Sleepwalkers today. A healthy dose of aggressive punk/hardcore not unlike Black Flag and American Nightmare, Dead Swans are already being hailed as one of the best bands out of the UK. In the Fall of 2008, Dead Swans were nominated for a Kerrang! Award as the Best British Newcomer, which was both as surprising as it was flattering as the band had only a demo and split 7” release under their belt.
Aside from the strength of their critical acclaim or their recorded music is Dead Swans live show. After their first stateside tour in the spring of 2009, including a slot at the highly coveted New England Metal and Hardcore Festival, Dead Swans are a band that is going to leave a mark upon the American hardcore scene whether the US populace knows it or not.
As Payne states, “We have always been a live band. That’s how we’ve always been. This record captures our live sound better than anything could, and it doesn’t matter where you’re from, if you smash it live, people will pay attention.”
And with more shows under their belt than most American bands embarking upon their first full-length, few bands have the experience and the confidence that Dead Swans shows on Sleepwalkers and it’s proof that this is only the beginning of an impending ascendence to the top of the worldwide hardcore ranks. Get ready for a major U.S. tour announcement soon as Dead Swans will be crossing the pond this November!
While the UK has never been mentioned as one of the prime locations of the worldwide hardcore scene the way Sweden or Japan have, Britain’s Dead Swans has come along to knock anyone who comes in contact with them on their ass and ups the ante for any hardcore band going, regardless of where they’re from.
Alternative Vision called Dead Swans "the best sounding and hardest working hardcore band to hail from England in a long time” and AP said that “a sound this fierce and full doesn't come around often”. We couldn’t agree more.
Sleepwalkers is available in stores and online now.
