Rain Perry has won several songwriting prizes, including the grand prize in the folk division at the 2000 John Lennon Songwriting Competition. But the Ojai, California singer-songwriter also has a great affection for unusual covers. On 'Internal Combustion,' out 9.21 on Precipitous Records, Perry takes on Bob Seger's "Till It Shines."
"I feel it's an underrated gem," Perry says, "and oddly perfect for a chick singer."
She and producer Mark Hallman (Ani DiFranco, Eliza Gilkyson, Carole King) reworked the sound to be more current than the original twin electric guitars.

As she sings "Take away my inhibitions/ Take away my solitude" in a clear and honest voice, the listener understands why the LA Daily News raved that Perry is "wise, specific, sometimes harrowing, funny in places, smart about personal mistakes and truly grateful to those who made her the fine artist that she is."
