About Red Wanting Blue

Following a sold-out show in Findlay, Ohio, Red Wanting Blue began to load out of the club only to find out that they had nowhere to load out to. Seems a fun-seeking joyrider had decided to pry open double doors of the band’s custom converted airport shuttle bus (which is often left with its diesel engine running) and take it for a spin. The vehicle was recovered less than an hour later and (oops!) the culprit dropped his cell phone on the the way out, making his apprehension an easy job for the local authorities. Thankfully, nothing was stolen. A short documentary chronicling the entire incident can be seen HERE.

It was a worrisome way to start 2011, but 2010 was a good year for Columbus, Ohio’s Red Wanting Blue. After eight independently produced and released studio albums and nearly 15 years of touring, the band found a label partner in Fanatic Records which re-issued the band’s 2008 disc, These Magnificent Miles in July. The single from that record, “Where You Wanna Go” reached #81 on the Hot AC charts nationwide, was the #2 most played song on an indie label at the format that week, and also ascended to #1 on the Adult channel of iheartadio.com, Clear Channel’s online portal for its group of 700+ radio stations.

Now the band has started pre-production on its long-awaited follow-up album which is tentatively scheduled for a late summer 2011 release. Once again working with producer Jamie Candiloro, who has produced the majority of the Ryan Adams catalog in addition to work with REM and Willie Nelson, Red Wanting Blue is promising its best album to date. More info is to come as the band works through the rest of the winter, with plans to release the upcoming album’s first single in late April or early May.

Meanwhile, a documentary about Red Wanting Blue (also titled “These Magnificent Miles”) has been completed and is now being scheduled for presentation at dozens of film festivals. The film, directed by Broadway producer and longtime Red Wanting Blue fan, Ken Davenport (most recently known for producing Will Ferrell’s Broadway turn as George W. Bush in “You’re Welcome America”) follows the band on the road and as they record their 2008 album. Sporting the tag line, “They’ve got thousands of fans, and played thousands of shows. But they’ve never had a record deal. And they’ve also never given up,” more info about the film can be found at http://www.redwantingbluemovie.com.
