Sponsored by Verizon, the Billboard Bash will be held on Wednesday, April 25th at The Fifth in South Beach. This pre-awards party will include performances by an elite group of Billboard Latin Music Award finalists who represent a diverse range of popular genres from the Latin music scene.
The Billboard Bash will begin with red carpet arrivals by hot performers, presenters, hosts, and special celebrity guests, followed by exciting performances and special presentations to some of this year’s Billboard Latin Music Award winners.

Franco El Gorilla—This innovative musician is making headway as part of the new wave of reggaetón artists. With the recent launch of the WY Record, The Cattlemen – featuring Tony Dize, The Uncle and Gadiel–El Gorilla showcases his talents on six different tracks.
Jeremias—In his new album, Ese Que Va Por Ahi, the singer-songwriter underscores his genuine talent with acoustic guitar rifts and self-composed lyrics. The artist’s fusion of musical styles landed him a spot as the only Latino in Billboard’s up-and-coming talent list, Hot in 2006.
Mariano Barba—Mariano Barba has sold over 50,000 records in Mexico and has won a number of awards, including Song of the Year for “Una Noche Mas Contigo.” Barba is currently the most programmed new artist in Hispanic radio throughout the United States Mexico.

Lillian Axe release due June 19
Opening for the likes of Ratt, Poison, Queensryche, Krokus, Stryper and Lita Ford, working with some of rock’s most respected producers and scoring several ‘Headbangers Ball’ approved video clips, Lillian Axe certainly carved (or perhaps more appropriately, chopped) a niche for themselves with metalheads worldwide during the ‘80s and ‘90s. And now, after an extended hiatus, the group – which is now comprised of Derrick LeFevre (lead vocals), Steve Blaze (lead guitars/vocals), Sam Poitevent (guitars/vocals), Eric Morris (bass), and Ken Koudelka (drums) – has unleashed their first new studio album in nearly fifteen years (and first for the Metro City Records label), titled ‘Waters Rising.’
"We have spent the last 3 years getting this record done, in 4 different locations, and we have gone through a complete metamorphosis mentally and physically,” explains Blaze. “It's a different environment in the music industry these days yet the spirit and soul in creating music has stayed the same in the Lillian Axe camp. My engineer, Rob Hovey, and I spent many hours experimenting with different approaches to this record, but it always came back to the same formula: do what we do, period."
Blaze also offered some insight regarding several favorite individual tracks from ‘Waters Rising.’ “The song ’Quarantine’ deals with germaphobia - I suffer from this condition. I deal sometimes with the ‘dirtiness’ of the world by living in a very clean, pristine, and organized environment. ‘The 2nd of May’ speaks of child disappearance and the theories behind the inability to find so many missing people. ‘Field of Yesterday’ would be Lillian Axe's ‘Stairway to Heaven’ or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’ The one song that encompasses the pieces sonically and emotionally that are the quintessential elements of that group. It is about eight minutes long and has a mid-section which capsulates the history of man's existence in an ethereal interlude which soars and then slams back to reality. ‘5’ is an instrumental in which I used about 80 guitar tracks. I attempted to touch on many different aspects of the instrument from arpeggios to clean picking to orchestration to heavy blues riffs to speed riffing to manipulation feedback. It took a while, as I wrote it as we recorded it, but the fanatic end result was just what I intended."
Originally formed in 1983, the New Orleans-based group soon caught the attention of Ratt manager Marshall Berle and MCA Records, leading to the release of the group’s self-titled 1988 release (produced by late Ratt guitarist Robbin Crosby), 1989’s ‘Love and War’ (produced by Tony Platt, who previously worked with AC/DC), 1991’s ‘Out of the Darkness into the Light,,’ 1992’s ‘Poetic Justice,’ and 1993’s ‘Psycho-Schizophrenia’ (the last two of which were produced by Leif Mases, who previously worked with Led Zeppelin). Additionally, such Lillian Axe tracks as “Dream Of A Lifetime,” “Show A Little Love,” “True Believer,” and a cover of Badfinger’s “No Matter What” received attention from rock radio and MTV.
By the middle of the ‘90s, Lillian Axe opted to take a break, although a collection of previously unreleased material was issued in 1999, ‘Fields of Yesterday.’ With metal once more ruling the charts and the airwaves by the early 21st century, Lillian Axe was back in business with live shows, resulting in the release of their first-ever live album, ‘Live 2002,’ recorded in Houston, Texas. Roadwork has continued for the band - including playing to 27,000 fans at Germany’s Bang Your Head Festival in 2004, as well as an extensive European tour a year later.
With new singer LeFevre recently replacing longtime frontman Ron Taylor, ‘Waters Rising’ sees a whole new metallic chapter unfolding for Lillian Axe.
"This album has been conceptually in the works for years. ‘Waters Rising’ represents the boiling point factor, that life seems to be a tumultuous ride always on the brink of explosion. These recent times on this planet seem to be proving this point. However, in each individual is the point where you reconcile this within your spirit and peace takes over allowing you to cope more effectively. The songs on this record cover the different ways that we deal with this factor and the fact that everyone is trying to make sense of it."

The Higher hits the road
Las Vegas-based pop/emo up-and-comers The Higher will support their Epitaph debut album On Fire – released March 6th – by torching West Coast concert stages this spring. In tandem with Sacramento rockers Self Against City, the month-long touring commitment gets underway on April 12th in Denver.
Produced by Mike Green (The Matches, Paramore), the disc reaped praise from Spin, who touted its “blue eyed shuffle” of “radio-choruses” and “punchy odes to underage behavior” in a recent three-star review. Elsewhere, Alternative Press noted, “In a world where everyone has developed an OCD impulse to categorize every musical act, The Higher may be the frontrunners of a new subgenre yet to be named.”
Explaining the group’s sound approach in the aforementioned AP piece, frontman Seth Trotter said, “We use every different kind of style of music and write the best songs possible without leaving any genres out. On Fire has a lot of R&B influence, a lot of pop influence and a lot of rock influence. We’re just trying to showcase every side of The Higher.”
Opening with the contagious pop of “Insurance?” the disc consists of the immediate rock anthem, “Rock My Body,” “Pace Yourself” (remixed by Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump) and the alluring “Histrionics,” which first appeared on the group’s acclaimed 2005 full-length indie LP of the same name. It was that disc – along with a Los Angeles performance at the Roxy earlier this year – that drew the interest of several major labels. But ultimately, the Las Vegas-based band chose to ink with Epitaph.
“By the end of the second song I was convinced that I wanted to sign them,” says Epitaph founder Brett Gurewitz of the Roxy performance by The Higher – which also counts vocalist Seth Trotter, guitarist Robert Ragan, bassist Jason Centeno and drummer Patrick Harter. Citing “Seth’s phenomenal voice” and their “R&B influence” as two key components, Epitaph’s honcho explained, “I only sign bands I think can go all the way, and I believe the sky’s the limit for The Higher.”

Collective Soul, one of the most successful and enduring alternative rock bands of the 1990s will headline the 24th annual Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival's Friday, June 1 entertainment.
The Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival, June 1-3, 2007 is a feast of the senses. The event opens Friday, June 1 at 5 p.m. with concerts on two stages and the evening balloon glow.
Collective Soul realized early success in 1994 with their double platinum album "Hints, Allegations, & Things Left Unsaid." Having a grunge sound, the band's most notable hit on the album was "Shine." They followed with the 1995 triple platinum self-titled album "Collective Soul." Crossing rock, alternative, and hot adult contemporary formats, the album was on the Billboard top 200 for 76 weeks.
Their most recent album, "Youth," released in 2005, produced three hits. "Counting the Days" scored a top 10. "Better Now" was a hit on pop and hot adult contemporary stations and "How Do You Love" was popular on all top 40 stations. The group is due to release another single this spring.

Horse the Band goes on tour

CEPHALIC CARNAGE has completed work on their brand new full-length, titled Xenosapien.
Xenosapien was recorded by the band and long-time producer / engineer Dave Otero in their studio in Denver, CO. Advance song titles include: “Endless Cycle of Violence”, “Touched by an Angel”, “Vaporized”, “G.lobal O.verhaul D.vice”, and “Ov Vicissitude”. Xenosapien is scheduled for a May 29 North American release date (May 28 internationally).
Additionally, CEPHALIC CARNAGE has announced the first European leg of the ‘Xenosapien World Tour.’ This tour will kick-off on May 4 in Utrecht, Netherlands and includes the band’s first headlining U.K. tour in over two years. Support on the U.K. portion of this tour will be provided by AKERCOKE. A listing of CEPHALIC CARNAGE tour dates can be found below with many more to be announced soon.

The Curse prepare debut release
METAL VETERANS FORM THE CURSED, PREPARE RELEASE OF THEIR DEBUT, ‘ROOM FULL OF SINNERS’ MAY 22ND VIA SCREAMING FERRET WRECKORDS
In the 1980’s, many New Jersey-based metalheads witnessed the emergence of two bands that rocketed out of the metal underground - Overkill and Hades. Come 2007, the leaders of each band - Overkill singer Bobby ‘Blitz’ Ellsworth and Hades guitarist Dan Lorenzo – have joined forces in a new band, The Cursed, who are readying the release of their debut full-length, ‘Room Full of Sinners,’ on May 22nd , via the Screaming Ferret label.
Along with bassist Job the Raver and drummer Mike Cristi, the group spent much of the spring and summer of 2006 writing and rehearsing new material. “Leven Als God in Frankrijk” brings to mind vintage Motorhead, while the album’s first single, “Evil, in the Bag” wouldn’t sound out of place on one of Black Sabbath’s early ‘70s classic albums. ‘Room Full of Sinners’ also benefits greatly from the sound of a band that hasn’t been processed through ProTools – it sounds pretty darn close to standing in the middle of the group’s rehearsal space while they let it rip. As a result, The Cursed will undoubtedly appeal to headbangers who like their metal lean and mean.
Shock jocks Opie and Anthony have been among the band’s first supporters, as the duo has featured The Cursed music on both their website as well as their radio show. And according to Mediabase, since “Evil, in the Bag” was first serviced to radio in February, the song has been heard by an estimated 60,000 people.
The buzz on The Cursed will only grow stronger in the coming months, as nationwide teaser ads in print(magazines and newspapers) have been running for months and will continue to run. Heavy Internet promotion and ad banners will also appear through genre specific sites, as well as the Myspace and Screaming Ferret Wreckords sites. Also, the video for "Evil, in the Bag" will be serviced to all online outlets, with MTV2’s ‘Headbangers Ball’ having expressed positive feedback to multiple spins.

End o' week musings
If you think my world seems sort of weird this week... well, you're right! It's been a strange one full of ups and downs leaving me drained. In fact, my plans for the weekend center around sleep and just being a slug on the couch as much as possible- very unlike my usual self!
On the left, you can see my friend, Brian Rocha's latest tattoo. It's much bigger that what I thought it would be, but the artwork is terrific!

And now for my week: It began with Zaynah and I dancing at the Market at the Casbah event in Fullerton. The crowd was very receptive and we received many positive comments on our performance, as well as on our costumes- which we made ourselves! Our best compliment came from our first dance teacher, Catharae, who said we have obviously been working on our choreography!
