NPR to webcast jazz concert series
NPR Music and WBGO/Jazz88.3FM in Newark, NJ, will webcast and broadcast a concert series from the legendary New York City jazz club The Village Vanguard. The “Live at The Village Vanguard” series begins next week and will offer monthly concerts for live, free streaming at www.NPR.org/music Concerts in the series will also be broadcast live on WBGO/Jazz88.3FM, and be available at www.WBGO.org
“Live at The Village Vanguard” begins on June 11 with Guillermo Klein y Los Guachos, the Argentine pianist and composer and his 11-piece band. On June 18, NPR Music and WBGO present a live show with jazz drummer Brian Blade, in performance with the Fellowship Band. iVideosongs today announced that more than one million of its music instruction videos have been downloaded since the public beta at www.iVideosongs.com was announced this past January 28. iVideosongs is the new service that shows aspiring musicians everywhere how to play their favorite songs completely and accurately, with the instruction provided by the original artists who wrote and performed them, and also from expert instructors.

Many of my favorite local groups have overlapping band members and, in a pinch, they often fill in for each other when someone is out of town or otherwise unavailable. This week's spotlight band is one I've never seen before, but I know 7 of the members from their other respective bands!THE SIN TWINS RHYTHM & BLUES REVIEW is a 17-plus piece roadhouse blues band that has been playing Southern California blues clubs for over 25 years. Lead singers Detroit Dan and Toledo Tom are backed by the soulful female trio "The Fallen Angels" (featuring MERCY POWELL, FELICIA BRIGHT and DEANNA COGAN), the rhythm section "The Sinners" (including DANNY HESSE, JOE VELOSA, KEITH NEAL and BUGGS MANOCCHI) and "The Hellbent for Leather Horns".

Join lead instructor Graham Burnett (www.grahamburnett.net), who is traveling from England to teach the course, Scott Horton (editor of Permaculture Activist Magazine, www.permacultureactivist.net), William Faith (cofounder of Ars Terra, www.arsterra.org), and Darren Butler (www.EcoWorkshops.com) for what promises to be a life-changing, mind-opening two-week intensive Permaculture Design Course at Animal Acres in Acton, California, from Aug 2 through 15, 2008 (talent show may occur on Aug 17).
In my opinion, this is likely to be the sustainability/ecological-design educational event of the year in LA County. We also plan to have fun. A huge variety of permaculture topics will be covered. The varied expertise of the instructors ensures that even those already proficient with permaculture will be exposed ideas, techniques, perspectives, and information new to them.
I'm currently scheduled to teach four sessions but hope to arrange to attend most of the course to be available frequently for questions, networking, and discussion.
The cost is only $700 for the entire two-week course, far less than the average cost of such a course, and this includes onsite vegan meals. An advance-registration discount of $100 is available if payment in full is completed by July 1, dropping the price to an almost unbelievable $600. Onsite camping is available for an additional $100.

My very own band, Sheena Metal's Beer Bong will be headlining Boomfest at 14 Below in Santa Monica (1348 14th Street) on Friday, June 6th. Our good friend Boom from Drum TV has sponsored the event and his band Thirty Round Clip will also be playing, along with: Bullets and Halos and Kill The Sound.
There will also be a DJ TK and crew spinning all of your rock favorites live all night, prizes and giveaways and cool drink specials...like $3 beers! The Bong Babes will be passing out our free songbooks so you can "sing along with Bong"...and YES, we will be playing our Minarik Guitars! See the Boomfest flyer for more details!
We want to see all of your headbangin' faces so come on down and say "HI!". We're looking for cool bands to play shows, festivals and parties with us as part of a cool new muscial community so come and meet Beer Bong and bring your band members and friends. Also, I'll be there all night hangin' and rockin' so come by and drop me off your CD for my syndicated radio show.
The night starts at 8pm, Beer Bong goes on at 11pm and we'll be there drinking until close. Then, maybe afterwards we'll stagger down to the beach and pass out face down in the sand, waking up late Saturday morning, hungover and sunburned, with wet sand stuck in our buttcracks? Sounds like a party to me. Who's in?
