SonicPast Music to release Jackdawg with John McFee, Stu Cook and Keith Knudsen
SonicPast Music announces the release of Jackdawg, the self-titled release from classic rock heroes John McFee (Doobie Brothers/Clover), Stu Cook (Creedence Clearwater Revival) and the late Keith Knudsen (Doobie Brothers.) The never-before-released album includes 13 original tracks penned by McFee, Cook and Knudsen as well as two covers including Roky Erickson’s “Cold Night for Alligators” and Van Morrison’s classic, “Wild Night.”
After a great stint together in country-rock chart-toppers Southern Pacific, McFee, Cook and Knudson decided to carry on creating great music together and recorded the tracks at McFee’s Lizard Rock Studio in Solvang, CA. The songs and the band evolved from 50 years of experience in the music business and the belief that together they could come up with some great songs to showcase their musical roots.
Although the Jackdawg album was recorded in 1990, the songs remained in the vault for many years. After Keith Knudsen’s passing in 2005, John McFee and SonicPast Music’s label founder/owner and former Blues Magoos member Joey Stec started discussing releasing the tracks, as the label’s specialization is unreleased recordings by musicians who have been in successful bands.
In addition to the 13 original tracks, the band also covers Van Morrison’s, “Wild Night” and Roky Erickson’s “Cold Night for Alligators.”
McFee played pedal steel on the original Morrison recording and all three Jackdawg members felt it would make a strong selection for the album. Although one of the most popular songs of the 70s, the album was recorded before the advent of the Internet and the original lyrics were a bit tough to find.
“It was hard to understand all the lyrics sung by Morrison,” notes Cook. “It took us about two weeks to come up with the correct version, but we pulled it together and it’s one my favorite tracks.”
“Cold Night for Alligators” is also another favorite of Cook’s. Stu produced tracks for Erickson, which were released on two albums, TEO (UK) and The Evil One (US). TEO received much critical acclaim and Erickson still includes most of the tracks in his live performances. The other tracks are inspired by subjects as diverse as the lead singer from The Divinyls (“The Girl from Oz”), Keith Knudsen’s daughter (“Young Ones”), Creedence Clearwater Revival (“Bayou Rebel”) and The Beatles (“The Men Who Would Be King”).

Ace Enders release effort to benefit VH1 Save the Music
With the world currently in flux from political, civil and economic upheavals, former Early November vocalist/guitarist ACE ENDERS and his long-time friend/collaborator/producer CHRIS BADAMI (Dillinger Escape Plan, Midtown, Early November) have decided to take matters into their own hands and effect a shift in the mindset of fans and the music industry at large.
Assembling a formidable bastion of musician friends that they have dubbed Ace Enders and a Million Different People, including Mark Hoppus, Matt Thiessen (Relient K), Kenny Vasoli (Starting Line), Craig Owens (Chiodos), Alex Gaskarth (All Time Low), Aaron Marsh (Copeland), Duane F. Okun (Socratic), and Bryce Avery (the Rocket Summer), they have covered The Verve's smash single "Bittersweet Symphony" (release date: December 2, 2008 via iTunes) in hopes to spur a worldwide positive change.
"'Bittersweet Symphony' has always been one of my favorite songs," Ace says. "I think it's the overall message of the song that made me want to do it."
Proceeds for the single will benefit The VH1 Save the Music Foundation which purchases new musical instruments to restore music education programs in schools.
"The VH1 Save the Music Foundation is such an great organization it just made sense to for me to work with them," Ace adds. "I think it's so important for the youth of today to be able to understand and be exposed to how powerful music is and how it can affect and even change peoples lives."
An impressive collection of powerful voices and musicians in today's music scene, these friends of Ace's weren't an easy group to wrangle and took over six months to record due to tour schedules, etc.
"I have known most of the musicians who are a part of this for years or have played shows with and have become friends with them," he explains. "Most importantly we wanted to put together a group of people who respect and don't take advantage of their importance in the music business and the effect they have on the fans who look up to them."
Recorded at Chris' Portrait Recording Studios in New Jersey, the release of "Bittersweet Symphony" begins the countdown to Ace's highly-anticipated follow-up to his previous release, The Secret Wars, that was given free to fans (and can downloaded at Fuse TV's website). Due out in March 2009, the upcoming album will not include the single however.
"Since it's for charity it won't be on the new record," explains the prolific Ace. "The song's message though about breaking from the mold of expectations and making a personal change is the overall theme of the new album."
"Bittersweet Symphony" will be released on iTunes on December 2, 2008 and his new album will be released in March 2009.

Kassin on tour
Kassin, Futurismo’s main songwriter, producer, and lead singer, is known for his bass playing and avant-gardism. With Futurismo, he skirts the expectations of those who associate him most with experimentalism. He has created a classic sounding album that reflects the heart of his own record collection. It overflows with a mix of samba, garage rock, and bolero, all of which is inflected with electronic flourishes and bubbles of bossa nova.
For the past few years, Kassin has been one of the most exciting names in Brazilian music. From his Monoaural Studio in Gavea he has produced records by singers like Marisa Monte and Bebel Gilberto and made an album from the bleeps of a Gameboy. The free mixtape offers a glimpse into the world of this young, up-and-coming talent whose highly anticipated debut album Don’t Think Less of Me drops in early 2009 via Universal Motown. Free from the confines of one particular genre, Colin fuses aspects of rock, pop, hip-hop and electronic music demonstrating his talent as both a musician and a producer.
Created in partnership with Sickamore & The Famous Firm, Colin Munroe is the Unsung Hero was crafted over a two-month period in Dallas Austin’s Atlanta-based recording studio. Colin’s previous online offerings have received acclaim from critics and fans alike. The single “World of Pain” and its stop-motion video exploded across the net and was awarded the 2008 Yahoo Video Award for Best Indie Music Video. His remix of Kanye West's “Flashing Lights” and accompanying video became an online sensation with over a million views and recognition from West himself, who featured the video on his blog, included the track on his Glow in the Dark Tour Mixtape, and used Colin’s vocals on his international tour. The video for his quirky cover of U2’s “Sunday Bloody Sunday” also spread like wildfire online. Colin will continue to release captivating videos as he prepares for his debut release.
