Melting Pot Food Tours now in Pasadena
Melting Pot Food Tour announces the launch of Pasadena’s first and only walking taste tour featuring a diverse array of culinary treasures. Running every Saturday and Sunday, the new summer three hour walking tour illuminates the ethnic eateries of Old Pasadena aspiring to place the City of Roses on the map as a noteworthy culinary destination in its own right. Lisa and Diane Scalia, co-founders of Melting Pot Food Tours entertain with historic and colorful stories of Pasadena’s intriguing past while guests visit spectacular ethnic eateries where they will indulge in multiple tastings of world cuisines.
“The new Melting Pot Food Tour of Old Pasadena is so much more than expected! Lisa and Diane’s skillful story telling bring the region’s history to life while guests enjoy some of our best kept culinary secrets! It’s a great way to discover Pasadena’s hidden charms while sampling some great food,” comments Nan Marchand Beauvois, Executive Director, Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau (PCVB).
The tour explores the streets of Green, Union, Holly, DeLacey, the avenues of Fair Oaks and Raymond, and Colorado Boulevard in historic Old Pasadena. Colorful alleys and secret thru-ways are revealed as guests visit award-winning ethnic eateries and sweets havens for tastings. Guests will indulge in multiple tastings of world cuisine including Tortas Mexico, Bar Celona (Spanish), Aux Delices Bakery and Café (French), Equator (Asian Fusion), Bird Pick Tea & Herb, Tutti Gelati (authentic gelato), Mezbaan Indian Cuisine, Tibet Nepal House (Himalayan), and Mignon Chocolate (exquisite chocolatier). Additionally, guests enjoy the pleasure of a sensory experience at a handmade soap kitchen.
“The Melting Pot Food Tours tradition is to acquaint guests with extraordinarily delicious treasures that both locals and visitors may not typically find or taste on their own. The Old Pasadena tasting tour is destined to become a true signature of this and promises a myriad of flavors that are both unforgettable and habit-worthy. The fascinating stories behind the foods and this historic district that was once only a sunny land of orange groves are guaranteed to entertain and delight,” says Diane Scalia, Tour Maestra.
The new tour lasts approximately three hours and runs from 10:30 am-1:30 pm. The tour runs every Saturday and Sunday. Price is $49 per person, including all tastings. The tour begins and ends at the same location. Tours are limited to 15 people and advance reservations are required. Groups can be accommodated with multiple tours running concurrently. The Revival Tour coming in October
The second annual REVIVAL TOUR 2009--a nationwide trek founded by Chuck Ragan, the singer/songwriter/guitarist and Hot Water Music co-frontman--is set to launch October 13 in Louisville and wrap November 21 in St. Petersburg. Drawing from a diverse group of established musicians in indie Americana, rock, punk, Irish folk, Cajun, zydeco and blues, THE REVIVAL TOUR will take the band of traveling musicians through 32 U.S. cities including New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Chicago, Minneapolis, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Austin, Dallas, Atlanta and many more. In traditional revival fashion, once the music starts, this new guard of young, genre-defying, musicians keep it rolling, teaming in and out through each others’ sets until the final farewell of the night.
THE REVIVAL TOUR 2009 will include: CHUCK RAGAN (of Hot Water Music), Jim Ward (of Sparta and Sleepercar), Kevin Seconds (Nov. 3-5 only), Frank Turner, Tim Barry (of Avail), Dave Hause (of The Loved Ones), Jenny Owen Youngs, Possessed by Paul James, Jon Snodgrass and Chad Price (of Drag The River), Joey Cape (of Lagwagon), Bob Lucas, Austin Lucas, Audra Mae, Tom Cook, Steven Brodsky (of Cave In), Water Tower Bucket Boys, Anderson Family Bluegrass Band, members of The Zydepunks performing acoustic, Jon Gaunt (of Whiskey & Co) on fiddle, Digger Barnes on the upright bass and more.
Last year’s inaugural REVIVAL TOUR featured Tim Barry of Avail, Ben Nichols of Lucero, Tom Gabel of Against Me! and Jesse Malin, among many others.
“As artists we go on tour together and then in the final days of the tour--after everyone is familiar with one another--you’re playing songs with your tour-mates and having a blast,” states founder CHUCK RAGAN. “I thought, why can’t we get together, rehearse before the tour starts and perform together during the entire tour?”
RAGAN says of his inspiration for THE REVIVAL TOUR.
“Some of our set for that night’s show is chosen in advance, but everything else evolves organically onstage,” he elaborates. “It’s truly one of the most special tours I’ve ever been a part of.”
Likewise, Jim Ward adds, “It's a real joy to be included on the revival tour this year. The idea of going on the road with some old friends and some soon-to-be friends, learning new songs, playing my songs with other folks is just a dream, to be honest. If you could add up the collective years on the road between the lot of us, and mix in the stories to be told, as well as the stories that will be made, it just seems almost overwhelming, almost too good to be true--I seriously cannot wait.”
British folkster Frank Turner, who will take a second turn on the trek, adds, "I did a few dates on Revival last year and I can honestly say, it was closer to my vision of how a music tour should be than any other I've ever been part of, as well as involving medically inadvisable levels of fun. Can't wait to get involved again this year."

About Chuck Ragan:
Singer/songwriter/guitarist CHUCK RAGAN was one of the lead singers of the punk rock band Hot Water Music. In 2006, RAGAN launched his solo career and has released a series of 7-inches on No Idea Records, a live album and a studio album on SideOneDummy Records. Early accolades in the press are appearing for RAGAN’s new album Gold Country--his second studio album--out September 1 on SideOneDummy Records (CD and digitally) and on vinyl via Ten Four Records: Relix ("…Gold Country is a striking collection of songs that show how much Ragan has progressed since his 2007 debut, Feast Or Famine."), Absolutepunk.net ("For Hot Water Music fans, half the excitement is just getting used to that voice in this context. But you don’t need to have grown up with Hot Water Music to appreciate these simple, beautiful tunes.") and Sonic Dissonance ("Gold Country contains all the pieces of a hit country-western record --think Nelson, Haggard or Cash--with Ragan's rock perspective and most importantly, the timeliness of being written in 2009 when everything matters as this green earth we inhabit veers toward an unknown chaos.") Several new tracks from Gold Country can be heard now via RAGAN’s website www.chuckraganmusic.com and Myspace page www.myspace.com/chuckragan.

Live Nation adds venues to No Service Fee program
Live Nation announced that this Wednesday, in addition to extending the popular half-price ticket special in its amphitheaters, the company is for the first time expanding its No Service Fee program to include more than 1,500 shows in its theaters and clubs, including House of Blues and Fillmore venues, making hundreds of thousands of additional no-fee tickets available for the first time to concerts by new and developing artists across North America.
Both promotions, which together include shows at 86 venues across North America, will kick off at 12:01 a.m. local time on August 5, 2009 and run for 24 hours only at www.livenation.com.
“This summer, through our Wednesday ticket promotions, concert fans have saved nearly 10 million dollars on tickets to amphitheater shows by some of the biggest artists in the world,” said Michael Rapino, President and Chief Executive Officer of Live Nation. “As we near the end of a very successful summer season we want to bring the same value to music fans who enjoy shows at House of Blues and other theaters and clubs across North America. This Wednesday hundreds of thousands of additional tickets will be available with no service fee, making it easier for even more fans to discover and connect with the amazing artists playing in these smaller venues today, some of whom will be headlining amphitheaters and arenas tomorrow.”
Subject to availability at participating venues and select shows. Parking and other fees may apply. Cannot be combined with any other offer or discount. General admission or reserved seats where applicable. Half Price Tickets promotion: service fees will be charged, will execute via a 50% discount off the total price and fees of tickets in multiples of two.

Roxy Epoxy on tour
Often associated with such fierce and striking artists as Karen O, Siouxsie Sioux, and Chrissie Hynde, Roxy Epoxy made a lasting impact on the punk and indie community in her former band, The Epoxies. Now, freshly rejuvenated with her new band Roxy Epoxy and the Rebound, she's taking her fierce vocals and embarking on a short run of tour dates in support of her recently released Metropolis album Band-Aids On Bullet Holes. (tour dates below)
In anticipation of this tour, she's offering a FREE download of the new song "Svengali" from her new new album.
"I wrote 'Svengali' when Britney Spears was having her very public meltdown," explains Roxy. "Everyone just seemed so excited to see what she would do next. It's from the point-of-view of the moneymakers."
A pop-punk observation of the oft-times tragic manipulation of popstars and their disposable careers, Roxy casts a sympathetic eye towards these fallen idols.
"It's so sad seeing such young girls bought up, packaged, and criticised until they fall," she contrinues. "They grow up and have no sense of reality or adulthood. Their mistakes and flaws oftentimes get more attention than their talents. I'm glad I didn't get into this until I was older. It's like a big sociological experiment."
Band-Aids On Bullet Holes is a dynamic album of punkified New Wave and synth-infused rock that stomps when it should skip and gallops when it should sway. The herky-jerky pop Banshee-esque goodness of "New Way" hearkens the early anarchic days of the London Underground, while the thrusting and velvet-texture of "I Know I Know" adds atmosphere and drenches it with drama. The melodic infectiousness of "Dependence Leads Your Fortune" is a propulsive and explosive stunner with meandering keyboards and swirling guitars, punctuated with Roxy's extremely distinctive vocals.

Sweet & Hot Music Festival Labor Day weekend
The 14th annual Sweet & Hot Music Festival will take place over Labor Day weekend, beginning, Friday September 4, through Monday, September 7, at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel, 5855 W. Century Boulevard. The fun-filled event features the music of the '20s, '30s, '40s, and 50's including swing, big band, classic jazz, and traditional blues, as well as New Orleans and Chicago-style jazz. Swing dancing and a myriad of other activities are also included.
This year's event will offer world-class performers, such as Ernie Andrews, Herb Jeffries, The Jack Sheldon Orchestra, Banu Gibson, Rebecca Kilgore and special guest performer Ernestine Anderson. In addition, The Friday Night “Swing's The Thing” Dance and the “Saturday Night Dance,” with Johnny Vana's “Big Band Alumni” will be featured, as well as disco dancing. These are just some of the more than 200 musicians and over 20 bands and 50 guest artists scheduled to appear in 180 scheduled events.
“Something really entertaining this year,” says Festival Director Wally Holmes, “is a tribute to the great Johnny Mandal, with special guest performances.” Holmes adds, “We'll also have a colorful Vintage Ball with Mike Henebry's Crazy Rhythm Orchestra.”
Another of the highlights of the four-day festival will be the return appearance of the Hues Corporation and the popular songs they perform from The Great American Rhythm & Soul Song Book. They'll sing favorites from Gladys Knight, Sam Cook and the Temptations, among others, as well as their own mega-hit “Rock the Boat.” Popular R&B group, “Pieces of Eight” will also keep the Sweet & Hot Festival rockin'.
Music starts at 10:30a.m. and continues beyond midnight in eight venues throughout the hotel (times vary each day). Listening and dancing to live music, as well as shopping for rare records and nostalgic memorabilia, are some of the reasons that the event attracts music enthusiasts from all over the Southern California area, as well as from around the United States.
The Sweet & Hot Music Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating the music of the '20s, '30s, '40s and 50's.
In addition to producing the festival each year, the foundation encourages young musicians to take an interest in this type of music by offering scholarship grants from proceeds raised by the event to various jazz education programs, for Los Angeles area high school students. The foundation began honoring legends in classic jazz when it originated in 1996, by placing permanent bronze plaques with their names, in the ground surrounding the pool and garden area at the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel. To date, the names of over 62 jazz legends have been placed around the pool, known as the Sweet & Hot Music Walk of Fame, featuring such greats from Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Benny Goodman to Cole Porter, Lionel Hampton and Billie Holiday.
Six of these jazz legends will be honored at a special Walk of Fame tribute, with an entertaining, two hour music-filled show on Thursday night, September 3. There is a special price of $25 for this Walk of Fame event.
For the four-day festival, ticket prices are: Friday, $35; Saturday and Sunday, $45 each; and Monday, $25. All-events badges for the entire 4-day festival are only $100 and patron badges are $295.
For more information, visit their website at www.sweethot.org or call Laurie at (909) 983-0106. After August 23, call the Los Angeles Airport Marriott Hotel at (310) 641-5700 (ask for the Music Festival Office).

Dia Los Toadies set for Aug. 29
Dia De Los Toadies. What the hell is it? Dia De Los Toadies is an annual concert hosted by the Toadies at a different location of their choosing. Think along the lines of a big ol’ Texas picnic with the band and five thousand of their closest friends.
Singer Vaden Todd Lewis explains, “We got the idea last year to do an annual event at a remote Texas spot... something with a different vibe than the usual club or street festival.”
The first Dia De Los Toadies took place over Labor Day weekend 2008 at Possum Kingdom Lake. Toadies were joined by friends Tejas Brothers, Lions, Dove Hunter and Backsliders. The show was an incredible success, selling out in advance.
Drummer Mark Reznicek says: “Last year's Dia De Los Toadies was probably the most fun gig of the year, in a year where we played LOTS of great shows (including Lollapalooza). The band and the fans all had an incredibly fun time, and I'm really looking forward to doing it again.”
The second Dia De Los Toadies takes place on Saturday, Aug 29, 2009 near Rough Creek Ranch in Glen Rose, an hour outside of the band’s hometown of Fort Worth, Texas. It’s a beautiful spot in the country on a private lake situated on an 11,000 acre ranch.Toadies will be joined by friends The Secret Machines, Bowling for Soup, Ben Kweller, Eleven Hundred Springs, and The Boom Boom Box. TEXAS ROCKS! See how much on August 29th.
Toadies released No Deliverance last summer, their first offering in seven years and toured relentlessly across the US for over a year wowing fans and critics alike. The band plan to get back in the studio to start work on a new record to be released in 2010.
Tickets are on sale now at FrontGateTickets.com.

Yourself and the Air to tour
With little musical experience among them and none a traditionally trained musician, Yourself and the Air began with one goal and one expectation: make music and feel better. The idea was, is and always will be chivalrous as artists, there is no other choice than to make art and share it.
It’s about connection, about linking and about knowing that we’re never alone as long as we wake up to the same sun and sleep under the same moon. In 2006, it became evident that if we really are the humans we believe we are, we must become the people we know we are and treat each other as such. It was immediate, beyond words and thoughts, and what used to be the individual and solitary catharsis of a small family had become Yourself and The Air.
A year later light started shinning through cracks in the band’s surface, a color here, a squinting reflection there and then came "Cold Outside Brings Heavy Thoughts to Think" (2007), a lesson in endurance. The group of friends and brothers was officially a band with something to prove. The songs were no longer lo-fi demos, but exhausting displays of restlessness and intensity that demanded attention despite fatigue. The angular guitar riffs flexed in acuity, not merely contrasting each other, but accentuating every note as if every second was dependent on the one that came before it. With practice came an unspeakable unity. Suddenly the lives of the five members of Yourself and The Air became just that.
The band began touring heavily and what little Yourself and The Air lacked in musical prowess, was more than made up for by sincerity and an earnest compassion for their fellow human. It was during this time that survival instincts took over. The band was a family, each worked part time jobs handling packages, waiting tables, delivering pizzas, bagging groceries, anything for the betterment of the band, this strange and newly formed organism that was evolving before everyone’s very eyes. Touring the corners of the continent shifted Yourself and The Air into a new gear. No longer running on gas or money, the azure Rocky Mountains fueled their desires, Arizona’s barren orange canyons provided shelter and California’s wrinkled and tempered beauty replaced food for thought.
Stationed behind Micekill, the band’s name for their touring van, a more meaningful life appeared, but one not without its share of complicated hazards. At one point, the band resorted to stealing coins from an Arizona fountain to pay for the gas to the next show. Broke and in Virginia, the band slept along the shore of Virginia Beach for two days. The lineup began to fluctuate with Jeff Papendorf leaving to finish a degree in geology and each member being forced to play the hands they’d been dealt. Family and drug problems tested Yourself and The Air’s dedication and commitment.
Following their successful North American tour, the band responded to their struggles with a resolute determination and their third recording “Friend of All Breeds”, a measured recitation of everything that’ s been learned and humble omission of all that is yet to be achieved. The band was picking away at themselves, revealing a bright and glowing vibrancy beneath the brittle flakes of their former selves.
On Friend of All Breeds the parts merged together and Yourself and The Air stopped playing instruments and started playing songs. The progression was evident and exciting. The new songs hinted at something no one in the band thought possible-- a better future. The songs were oscillating uncontrollably, yet confidently and the music teetered on the precipice of an intangible and infinite destiny as it morphed from one spacey waltz to another. The count down of abstract time has begun and in a verbose silence Yourself and The Air’ s whisper about everything and nothing at all is growing louder than the empty echo of an exploding heartbeat unheard.
