Ace Enders to tour and set release date for album

Six months in the making, ever-evolving artist ACE ENDERS has officially set a release date for the next chapter of his project I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business - six years since the release of their last record. The World We Know, the follow-up to 2004’s lauded self-titled album, marks the end of an era for Enders as an independent artist, completely fresh off of West Coast independent Drive-thru Records.

"I will be releasing this record on my own, without a label for the first time in my career," he explains in his letter to his fans. "The choice to self-release has been inspired by the people I've met around the country over all these years. The people who have been coming to every show like Heidi in Salt Lake, Erin from Indiana, Detroit Dan, Timmy from Texas, Lilly from Philly, the mustache crew from MA, Lisa from Virginia, Maren and her mom, Slater, the Williams family and the list goes on."

The World We Know is the first of a musical trilogy of sorts that are planned for release in 2010 and will be available everywhere digitally on March 23, 2010 on iTunes with a presale on Amazon. Signed copies will also be available on his tour with Copeland starting on March 3rd in Carrboro, NC (tour dates below). The second record will be released immediately preceding the 2010 Vans Warped tour and the third will be released in late fall.

Another touch that makes this record completely different, it’s one 40 minute song. The record consists of a standard amount of songs, but the music never really stops, with songs blending into each other. It’s a vision that Ace has had for awhile and is finally able to do with a record outside of the standard de rigueur of the record label system.

“I certainly have no problem with people buying songs instead of albums," explains Ace, "but with this project, much like the last Mess record, I want it to be about the experience.”

On the new record, Enders has something a bit different than his recent records — back to the basics. Fans Ace's earlier band The Early November and especially of songs like "Ever So Sweet,” “Sunday Drive,” and any of the I Can Make A Mess songs from 2004, will likely embrace this record.

“This is a record meant to listen to when you’re alone with your headphones on,” comments Ace when speaking about the new music.

Enders would admit that the first record was about growing up, and not a lot has changed, The World We Know is a social commentary on continuing to grow up, how things change, and the changes in life with the birth of his new child in late 2009.

"I finally feel like I am being honest with myself in my music," he concludes. "I have never been more proud or happy with anything I've ever created. I've never believed in my music this much. So, I'm not trying to change the world. I'm just trying to believe, and I do for the first time in a long time."

I Can Make A Mess Like Nobody’s Business will be on tour all year. The World We Know, the first of three releases for 2010, will be released on March 23, 2010.

Camp-California! Guide adds content

Camp-California! Guide –The Camper’s Guide to California has tripled its database with the addition of both government-run campgrounds and private campgrounds that are not affiliated with the statewide campground association.

The additions, completed earlier this month, increased Camp-California’s database from 350 parks to more than 1,000 campgrounds, said Debbie Sipe, executive director of the California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds, adding that a digital version of the guide is available now at www.Camp-California.com.

“We think consumers will love what we’ve done because we’re creating a one-stop-shop for people looking for camping opportunities in California in both public and privately owned campgrounds, RV parks and resorts,” Sipe said, adding that the statewide campground association wants to position itself as the leader in campground travel planning in California.

“Consumers want complete content. They want to get all the information they need in one spot. But until now, there was no single source for all camping information in California,” Sipe said, noting that other camping guides focus on their own niche markets and eliminate or ignore some camping options because they limit their listings to advertisers.

“We don’t think that’s the right approach,” Sipe said, adding that 250,000 copies of the four-color print edition of the association’s statewide directory are being distributed free of charge at visitor’s centers, welcome centers and RV shows throughout the state.

The California Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds has been making significant upgrades to Camp-California! The Camper’s Guide to California during the past year. The association plans to add the nearly 1,000 Forest Service campgrounds to its database next year.

In addition to the new campground listings, the Guide provides activities and events located throughout the state and throughout the year. Philip Anselmo's Housecore Records release compilation album

HOUSECORE RECORDS (HCR) is the definitive collection of Philip H. Anselmo’s side projects from past to present, and the advancement and release of projects he believes in creatively. The idea of HOUSECORE records was first concocted in the early to mid 90’s at Philip’s earliest address by the lake (AKA Colbert Street) after leaving Texas to return to his hometown of New Orleans, LA. Philip’s house was a primary catalyst for the entire project.

HOUSECORE RECORDS is most definitely an outlet for heavy music, but they a have a lot more to offer from their diverse roster of musicians. This is showcased on the second disc of their HOUSECORE RECORDS compilation which is available now.

2008 and 2009 saw the initial releases from HOUSECORE RECORDS including ARSON ANTHEM’S self-titled EP, CHRIST INVERSION’S self-titled LP, VALHALL’S Red Planet and the aforementioned 2-disc HOUSECORE RECORDS COMPILATION, spotlighting some of the other artists on and/or enthused by HOUSECORE RECORDS.

Label head and founder Philip Anselmo commented on HOUSECORE:

“HOUSECORE RECORDS (HCR) is something I've needed to do. In 1993, the day after the sound proofing was completed and the gear was loaded into the downstairs practice room on Colbert St, the "HOUSECORE Sound" was birthed.

It was an extremely important thing that DOWN, SUPERJOINT RITUAL, SOILENT GREEN, CHRIST INVERSION, BODY AND BLOOD, THE DISEMBODIED, SPIRIT IN THE ROOM etc all jammed, practiced, wrote, and/or demoed there. Out of those bands came several spin-off groups, even more side bands and prospect projects to be."

"The creativity in that house was amazing, and soon thereafter, when I'd head back out on tour with PANTERA throughout the rest of the '90's, all that could be heard pouring out of my dressing room was HC music. Too many people liked the stuff. They'd beg for copies, but alas, if they hadn't brought a cassette tape with 'em, they were shit out of luck...

Fast forward to the present, well, the HCR idea has grown. The '90's stuff I'd done still stands the test of time, so people deserve to hear it."

"As far as the new bands are concerned, the fact that I'm investing in them speaks the obvious. Do I think these bands are gonna be swimming in cash, or the next big thing? Not necessarily. But do I think they're offering-up something fresh and different to the existing, vast music scene? Yep. That's the important thing for me.”

April 27th will see the first two releases from HOUSECORE RECORDS for 2010. Texas thrashers WARBEAST will be releasing Krush The Enemy.

When asked to describe WARBEAST Philip said, “WARBEAST is pure, relentlessly executed Thrash at its best. Absolutely Ripping! I know that sounds generic, but WARBEAST isn't. Don't get me wrong, they're influenced by great bands from years gone by, but what sets them apart is the execution and variety of styles explored. The end result is original sounding, and "Void Filling" to my 'Thrash-keen' ears! Plus, I've grown up with these cats, so I know they're the real deal."

The other release will be from THE SURSIKS entitled I Didn’t Know I Was Singing. Let's get this straight, THE SURSIKS are NOT METAL nor HARDCORE, but they're undeniably just as extreme.

THE SURSIKS have been dubbed "The masters of musical reverse engineering", and on this album they've taken 16 phone messages from the answering machines of family and friends and set them to music. The result is a truly brilliant, hilarious and mind-altering concept album that will change the way that you listen to the human voice out in the real world.

Says Philip: "Each 'song/message' is it's own musical adventure. From Detroit style Rhythm and Blues, to dramatic strings and timpani drum driven pieces, with hilarious and tragic topics abound, THE SURSIKS are the epitome of 'different', and a stark reminder to any band out there, that all the notes haven't been played yet, so to speak. The Depreciation Guild to tour in support of upcoming album

Kurt Feldman joined the mile high club last year. Oh, it's not what you think. Well, not exactly.

"You know how airplane cabins have a drone to them?" asks The Depreciation Guild frontman. "Well, it's like an A note, and I was singing melodies over it in the bathroom."

One of those melodies—first captured on a cell phone, mind you—weaves its way through the opening scene of Spirit Youth, the album that rewrites just about every assumption about Brooklyn's most promising dream-pop band. For starters, The Depreciation Guild is not Slowdive's second-coming. While Feldman and guitarist Christoph Hochheim also play in the Pains of Being Pure At Heart, they founded The Depreciation Guild two years prior to the Pains' formation. The two bands complement one another, with Pains teetering on the twee side of things and The Depreciation Guild building its very own blend of 8-bit beats, clanging chords and heady hooks.

"This record is heavy but it’s not very shoegaze," explains Feldman. "The influence is there, but if you hear an actual 'shoegaze record', it doesn’t sound like us at all."

"That's because we put more of an emphasis on songs than textures,” adds Hochheim.

In other words, there’s more to a Depreciation Guild record than disembodied vocals and distorted guitars—three-dimensional details like the pinpoint percussion of Christoph’s twin brother Anton and the fluttering effects of the trio’s honorary ‘fourth member’, its vintage Famicom system.

The beginning stages of this speaker-panning approach can be found on the band's self-released debut, 2007’s In Her Gentle Jaws, which Kanine reissued in remastered form last fall. Getting the sound right took more than a year of tweaking, though, as Spirit Youth’s tracks were prepped for a proper session at the Chicago studio of Telefon Tel Aviv’s Joshua Eustis.

“I come from the Steely Dan school of production," says Feldman. "I like things that sound good, not things that sound like they were just thrown together.”Which explains why Spirit Youth demands to be heard on a decent stereo—loud—peeling away every last layer, from the galloping grooves and sputtering drums of "Crucify You" to the shimmer and shake of "Dream About Me."

“I appreciate anything that’s extreme,” says Christoph, “anyone who operates completely within their own realm. This record is our first step toward doing that with our own music, leaving us very excited for what’s next.”

Spirit Youth will be available May 18th on Kanine Records, look out for the limited edition vinyl release as well!

Saving Abel shares USO concert footage

Rock band Saving Abel teamed up with the USO for a weeklong USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour in the Persian Gulf. Busy visiting and performing for troops in Qatar and Kuwait, Saving Abel has entertained more than 3,500 troops so far and just finished filming their USO show at Camp Arifjan. Footage from the hi-energy USO show will be broadcast in early March with help from Ustream.

• As part of their eight-day, three-country USO tour to the combat zone, Saving Abel will visit eight military bases and perform seven concerts. Known for their radio-ready sound, memorable melodies and hard-hitting tracks, the band will also sign autographs, pose for photos and spend time with soldiers.

• Having entertained 1,750 troops in Kuwait, the group filmed their USO show at Camp Arifjan on February 23 and will provide viewers with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look of USO entertainment in early March. With the help from Ustream, the concert will be picked up by MySpace, Facebook and other social networking sites, and is dedicated to America’s armed forces and their families.

• Students from St. Albert the Great School in Louisville, KY, created an assortment of cards and artwork, which Saving Abel have carried overseas and are hand delivering to troops in appreciation.

• This is Saving Abel’s first USO tour. The band has been eager to travel overseas for quite some time and have made multiple appearances on bases stateside.

• Avid supporters of the U.S. military, Saving Abel performed for troops in October ‘08 as part of MTV’s "A Night for Vets: An MTV Concert for the BRAVE." Performing alongside such USO veterans as Kid Rock and Ludacris, the concert called for elected officials to provide veterans with better health care, mental-health treatment, job opportunities, housing assistance and compensation for serving longer due to stop-loss orders.
