Claremont Dentist fights tooth decay by buying candy Nov. 1-9

Dr. Vijay Patel is leading an anti tooth-decay movement by giving away dollars in exchange for candy. From November 1st until November 9th, when patients bring in Halloween candy, Dr. Patel will give trick-or-treaters $1.00 per pound of candies donated.

“Kids can still experience the fun of trick or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well,” says Dr. Patel.

We all know that children love candy, but eating candy is hurting children’s teeth and may lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can also lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

Global sugar consumption for kids increase by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids’ teeth are being cared for more than ever.
This is the first year Dr. Patel is sponsoring the Halloween Candy Buy Back event.  Children and patients can drop off their candies the following dates:

Claremont Dental Institute: 601 E Foothill Blvd., Claremont, CA 91711
From November 1st to November 9th 2012, during office hours Tel: (909)625-4101

Dental Care San Bernardino: 322 N H St, San Bernardino, CA 92410

Mack & Poppy holiday shows in LA Dec. 22

Mack & Poppy will return to Los Angeles to celebrate the holidays with It’s Christmas! (F#*k The Mayans!), for two shows only on Saturday, December 22 at 8pm and 10pm, at the Cavern Club Celebrity Theatre inside Casita Del Campo Restaurant in Silver Lake. Assuming the world doesn't end the day before, Mack and Poppy, accompanied by Jack Cheddar at the piano, will bring their one-of-a-kind Christmas show to LA audiences. Featuring favorite tunes from last year's show as well as new material, Mack and Poppy will once again give holiday revelers an irreverent evening of song and laughter that's sure to be talked about ... at least until New Year's Eve.

Crooner Mack Diamond (Tod Macofsky) began his career as a child star, singing on street corners with his two older brothers, Shlomo and Moishe. Later, Mack suffered a decade of depression and alcoholism in Las Vegas, where he spent eight years performing his solo show, A Yiddishe Mackie, at The Imperial Palace. He met the lovely Poppy Fields while she was in the chorus of Jubilee!, and the rest is showbiz history.

Southern Belle Poppy Fields (Christopher Michael Graham) escaped the narrow-minded confines of Possum Trot, Alabama, and traveled the world as a singer/dancer/actress, entertaining celebrities,  businessmen,  and  heads-of-state. After a  successful  beauty  pageant  career, the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas called, where Poppy wed and divorced four husbands before finally meeting and marrying the “Sensation of the 24-hour Buffet,” entertainer Mack Diamond.

Mack & Poppy will play two performances only at the Cavern Club Celebrity Theatre inside Casita Del Campo Restaurant on Saturday, December 22, at 8pm and 10pm. For tickets ($15 in advance, $20 at the door), go to www.brownpapertickets.com/event/290591 or call (800) 838-3006. For more information, visit www.mackandpoppy.com. Casita Del Campo is located at 1920 Hyperion Avenue in Los Angeles, 90026.

Art show in Rosemead Nov. 3

My name is Jason Ashimoto and I am the arts pastor at Evergreen
Baptist Church of Los Angeles in Rosemead. I wanted to let you know
about an upcoming art showcase that I am curating on Saturday
November 3rd from 5-9pm.

Last year, I met with a local artist from
Rosemead (Arturo Flores) and the two of us decided to put together an
art gallery that could highlight the hidden beauty and culture of the
city and the San Gabriel Valley. We assembled some local artists and
put on a one day showcase on our church campus. Since then, we had an
additional showcase in March of this year, where our reach grew to
artists in the larger Los Angeles area.

 Next weekend, we will have
our 3rd showcase featuring artists from Rosemead, the San Gabriel
Valley, and as far away as Orange County. It's a fun, family-friendly
event with live art, a DJ from Scratch Academy in Los Angeles, and
free sketching lessons from a USC school of architecture instructor.
I wanted to alert you of this upcoming show in case you wanted to
cover the event. We're really trying to help the SGV and the city of
Rosemead be seen as a place of beauty and culture.
