Despite having an exciting weekend ahead, this morning I feel like the denoument of my week has passed me by. Maybe I had too much orange juice or maybe I need more coffee... Or perhaps the fact that I was up finishing my costume last night and still have a list of errands to do today before my show that's got me out of sorts... Still, enjoy my photo exhibit today from the usual suspects (http://www.stuffonmycat.com/ and http://www.stuffonmymutt.com/ and a friend's e-mail) and some not-so-usual ones, my brother Jason's great shot of Oderus Urungus from Gwar at Sounds of the Underground. And here goes...
Saturday I met up with my mom and brother for breakfast and then headed out to my dear friends' home. Carin and Tom have a nice sized place in Bellflower with a huge two houses, a huge garage, an aviary, a pool and spa, barbecue and fire pit. The highlight of my journey, aside from the swimming, soaking and 'cuing, was walking into the kitchen and discovering two baby birds in a large "nesting" box on their table. Carin takes the babies from the aviary and tends to them herself so they get proper nutrition and don't get hurt. The little guys are absolutely darling. I fed and petted them and they are just too sweet!
On Sunday Valerie and I headed out to Irvine for the Poison concert. Vains of Jenna opened, followed by Ratt. I didn't care much for Jenna, they seemed to lack the polish needed for their genre, although their musicianship was OK. Ratt was good, as the sound was there, but their energy wavered throughout their set. I'll admit I'm not a Poison fan, but after this show, I've become much more interested in them. They were extremely entertaining and I was surprised at their talent-- their live show was fantastic! I would definitely see them again.
The rest of my week was quiet, but busy. I edited and wrote for DaBelly.com (go there and check out my Confessions from the Slave Pit), worked on my dance costume, did lots of interesting interviews and wrote for my newspapers, went for walks and got decent sleep despite the heat. And yes, I listened to a lot of music.
The bass player from my band gave me a CD featuring tunes he's working on with his jazz trio. It's really cool, as this isn't your mom and dad's kind of jazz. There's even a jazz version of a Nirvana tune! Needless to say, I've been giving this one the replay.
In rotation this week: Mark Kendall, The Haunted, Krypteria, Tyrants of Steel (a local band gardnering some great gigs), Chthonic (love 'em), Tribe of Gypsies and 69 Eyes (on my faves list now).
My podmate Linda shared yet another words of wisdom selection from her refrigerator:
"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one that has been opened for us." ~ Helen Keller
I've been feeling sorry for myself, but trying to appreciate the good things in my life this week. Just going through some things, don't fret, it's almost my birthday and that means it's time to reevaluate my life.... I think I'll take Helen and Linda's thought to heart and see what I discover-- you should too.
Keep on rockin'
Mickie
