MTV "Unplugged" to hit the Web this summer

MTV “Unplugged” is going digital this summer, kicking off a series of monthly exclusive unplugged performances on MTV.com from some of today’s most talented artists. Each featured artist will perform a six song set in a stripped-down, intimate setting, and visitors to the MTV Unplugged site (www.unplugged.mtv.com) will also find artist interviews and playlists, along with exclusive behind-the-scenes photos of sessions.

On Monday, June 8, music fans will see multiple-Grammy® Award winner Adele in a performance taped at NYE HAUS in New York City that includes “Chasing Pavements” and “Hometown Glory.” In July, indie rock band Silversun Pickups will make their “Unplugged” debut, following the release of their acclaimed sophomore album, Swoon. As always, “Unplugged” will continue to break boundaries by featuring a full complement of rock, hip-hop, pop – and beyond – artists during its monthly series. Upcoming episodes will bring Paramore and Katy Perry to the “Unplugged” stage.

“’Unplugged’ has always been a fan and artist favorite and one of the more iconic MTV performance series ever,” said Amy Doyle, EVP, Music & Talent. “By bringing the series to MTV.com, we’re able to deliver it to a new generation of music fans and offer a greater level of access to their favorite musicians through performances, interviews and artist-chosen playlists – and it’s all viewable on demand.”

In addition to “Unplugged” as an online destination on MTV.com and MTVMusic.com, MTV viewers will see full video performances and selected clips from performances, along with behind-the-scenes looks. MTV2, mtvU, MTV Hits, MTV Jams and MTV Tr3s will also air select performances and footage.

A wide variety of musical legends and artists have performed on “MTV Unplugged” over the years, including Nirvana, Jay-Z, The Cure, Shakira, and Duran Duran.
