National Vigil of Hope event in Glendale Sunday

The National Vigil For Hope 2009 West Coast Chair and Steering Committee member, Kathie Mathis, Psy.D, announced today that the Glendale Women’s Commission on the Status of Women, Soroptimist International Glendale Chapter, Glendale Police Department Missing Persons Unit, the law firm of Smith, Chapmen and Campbell, have allied along with other community agencies and city companies, to raise awareness of the continuing issue of abduction and trafficking.

The National Vigil For Hope 2009 is a national coalition of businesses, organizations, and individuals lending a helping hand and a voice to those children and adults that are missing in the United States. The National Vigil For Hope event will take place Sunday, May 17, 2009 (4:00-5:30pm).

“Due to the recent abduction of Amber Dubois and missing children Claudia Yat, Jasmine Ramirez, and Jesse Peters in Los Angeles County and the national news of the ongoing human trafficking issues in our country, joining forces with the Glendale Women’s Commission on the Status of Women and Glendale Police Missing Persons Unit is a start in the right direction,” said Dr. Mathis, West Coast Co-Chair for the National Vigil for Hope and Los Angeles County resident. “The issues that are plaguing our communities across the country need attention and the best way I can see us combating these problems are to pull our resources together and focus on bringing more attention to those missing from their homes and their loved ones,” Mathis said.
The family of Amber Dubois will be speaking about their daughter at the vigil. The community is encouraged to visit www.nationalvigilforhope.org and explore the many links of those missing children and adults.

The Los Angeles and Orange Counties Vigil For Hope will be held at Glendale City Hall, Parcher Plaza (by Rosie’s Garden), 613 E. Broadway, Glendale, CA 91206 on from 4pm to 5:30pm. The Vigil for Hope will highlight the remembrance of the missing children with a butterfly release and feature a moving musical performance by the band Zen Boogie.
