Jim Curry news and shows in SoCal

Dear Musical Friends:

Happy New Year!

First off, Jim and I want to wish you all the best in 2010. We hope you enjoyed the holidays and are getting settled back into your work or school schedules for the New Year. For us, as for many of our friends, 2009 was a mixture of triumphs and challenges, but overall we can say that the Currys are doing fine and continue to meet good people all over the world who enjoy the music of John Denver.

Some notable ‘firsts’ for us this year were our two symphony concerts. We were able to commission the reconstruction of the original symphony scores of John Denver’s music (they were inadvertently destroyed shortly after his death) with the help of Lee Holdridge (Lee wrote them for John). Lee had a master conductor’s copy in a vault here in Los Angeles, so after the scores were broken out into individual parts for each member of the orchestra, we were ready to offer the show to symphonies. Our first symphony concert was in Leawood, Missouri, with the Kansas City Symphony Orchestra, and our second performance with a symphony was with the Greensboro, NC symphony. Performing with a symphony is amazing, and when you add it to music that is already beautiful, it’s like the icing on the cake! (Please excuse the food metaphor; I haven’t quite gotten down from my Christmas sugar-high).

Other ‘firsts’ for us were some new places, and one of the most exciting was our first time at Niagara Falls. This is only one of the many beautiful places we were able to visit in 2009. Our calendar is rapidly filling up for 2010, and I will continue to let you know what’s coming so we can hopefully see you in your home town!

This Saturday (Jan 9) you have a chance to see us in our very first house concert in Claremont, CA! This is rapidly approaching, so if you live in So Cal call the Glencers at (909) 596-1266 and make your reservations. The evening show is already filled up, so an afternoon matinee was added to accommodate those on the waiting list. These shows are so much fun because they are casual, and really give us a chance to get to know you. No band, just Jim and Anne and the music of John Denver. Suggested donation $15.00

Monday, January 25 – Another popular show at the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, CA. We have such a good time in this wonderful listening room (the coffee machines operate in a separate area). Reservations are required. www.coffeegallery.com -$18.00

So much more coming up! Shows pending in Arizona, Northern California, Ohio, Nebraska, and many more! Watch for these e-mail notifications and visit our website often for new additions.

Stay Tuned,
Anne Curry
