Her illustrious history includes six years of service during World War II. The “grandest ship ever built” became “the world’s largest troop transport” carrying 765,429 military personnel and sailing 569,429 miles contributing to the war effort. It is also notable that after the war, RMS Queen Mary transported almost 13,000 G.I. brides and children to the United States and Canada. http://www.queenmary.com/1943-1966.aspx

“During the war, she was called the ‘Grey Ghost’ because of a camouflaged grey exterior,” added Mason. “Restored to her glory after the war, the Queen Mary of today offers visitors a journey back in time as an authentic and unique Long Beach hotel and attraction,” he said.
