MIKA has just released a short film for “The Origin of Love”, the title track from his forthcoming album due out on Universal Republic on October 16. About the film, Mika said: “This latest short film is a collaboration with the Chilean director Cristián Jiménez. After seeing his film Bonsai, this seemed like an exciting match. I wanted to take the kaleidoscopic dreaminess of the song and pair it up with Cristián’s more realistic, surreal and moving imagery. When making these films, I give complete freedom to the director we are collaborating with, in a way that is never possible with a music video. Mika has recently announced a Fall US tour. The initial run of dates sold out in 15 minutes and second dates were added in New York and Los Angeles. Tickets are still available for the second Los Angles show. Mika also just released “Celebrate”, the album’s lead single to international acclaim. The “Celebrate” single is now available on iTunes.
Following up his multi-million selling worldwide smash ‘The Boy Who Knew Too Much’ (which debuted in every single iTunes top ten around the world), The Origin of Love is Mika’s third album.

Elvis tribute with Mike Stoller in Hollywood Aug. 19
Hollywood will salute Elvis Presley, The King of Rock & Roll, with a 35th Anniversary Tribute. Mike Stoller, of the legendary Grammy Award winning songwriting team of Leiber & Stoller, will appear for a book signing of “Hound Dog: The Leiber and Stoller Autobiography,” followed by a Question and Answer Session and screening of the 1957 Warner Bros. classic film (originally made by MGM), “Jailhouse Rock” starring Elvis Presley.
WHAT & WHEN:
The screening will celebrate the life of The King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, while simultaneously commemorating the 35th Anniversary of the late singer’s passing. The event will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2012. The book signing is at 1:00 p.m. The Q&A and film screening is at 2:00 p.m.
This One Day Only Screening of the 96-minute film is an official Los Angeles 35th Anniversary celebration of the late Elvis Presley’s third film, “Jailhouse Rock” directed by Richard Thorpe featuring slambang Leiber & Stoller songs like the jaw-dropping title song and production number, “Jailhouse Rock,” along with “Baby, I Don’t Care” and more! Elvis Presley, who plays the role Vince Everett in the film, is in the pen for manslaughter. His cellmate, Hunk Houghton, played by Mickey Shaughnessy, is a former country star who introduces him to the record business. On release from prison, the King quickly rises to the top as a Rock & Roll singer. But will he remember the folks who got him there? Also starring Judy Tyler (as Peggy Van Alden), Vaughn Taylor (as Mr. Shores), Jennifer Holden (as Sherry Wilson), Dean Jones (as Teddy Talbot) and Anne Neyland (as Laury Jackson). Composer Mike Stoller makes a cameo appearance in the film playing the piano for Elvis Presley. The film will be screened in a 35 mm format.

'The Highest Pass' features music by Yes' Jon Anderson
Part heart-pounding adventure, part spiritual quest, THE HIGHEST PASS, a feature length documentary directed by Jon Fitzgerald, takes viewers on a spiritual adventure covering 2000 km and, 18,000 feet in 21 days, where the riders learn, Only those who die, truly live. The award-winning film shares the journey of seven seekers who follow a yogi guru with a Vedic death prophecy on a motorcycle trip up to the highest pass of the Indian Himalayas. Jon Anderson, lead vocal for YES, wrote two original songs for the film including the title song, The Highest Pass. On DVD and digital platforms with a blessing of DVD extras on August 28, 2012.
A young guru, Anand Mehrotra, asks his followers to join him in India on a motorcycle journey that will begin in Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga, and will end in the high mountain region of Ladakh. Adam Schomer accepts the challenge, even though he's never ridden a motorcycle and joins Mehrotra, who at twenty-seven bears a prophecy that he will die in an accident before the age of thirty. They are joined by five men including: Paul Greene (entrepreneur), Mike Owen (stuntman), Eric Braff (graphic designer), Brooks Hale (Broadway producer), Rich Parkerson (technology entrepreneur) and one woman, Ariana de Bonvoisin (author). Their expedition will take them 2000 km over some of the most dangerous roads in the world where they ultimately climb over the highest motorable mountain pass on Earth meet a Tibetan oracle. Each rider will face his or her own form of death. Says Schomer, "I don't ride motorcycles, I think they are dangerous. So I just said yes."
Schomer, who has his worst fears exposed in the film, is also the writer and producer. He has been a student of Mehrotra's Sattva yoga for three years. Schomer was born and raised in the Detroit area and attended Bham Groves High School. After college, Schomer returned to Detroit where he attended The Second City Detroit and performed locally in plays, films, commercials and improv comedy. A semi-pro soccer player (Mid Michigan Bucks), he also coached young players and the FC Waza soccer club as well as running i2i Soccer which helped train recreational soccer players. This is his first feature documentary production with a second documentary, WHEN THE DUST SETTLES, which takes a deep look into the effects of nuclear testing on the children of Kazakhstan, currently in post-production.
This is the second documentary for Fitzgerald (THE BACK NINE/Magnolia), the former festival director of the American Film Institute, Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Abu Dhabi Film Festival. He is one of the original founders of the Slamdance Film Festival. Fitzgerald, who recently launched Cinecause.com, a web platform that connects socially relevant films to related causes, says of the experience, "I recognized how many obstacles we would face, challenges on every level, particularly from a production standpoint. Yet, I also knew, selfishly, that I would grow as a person through the experience of being led by a modern yogi in the most spiritual places of India."
Anderson, leader singer of YES, wrote two songs for the film (The Highest Pass and Waking Up) with composer Michael Mollura. Mollura's work has been heard in HBO's HOT COFFEE and CLIMATE REFUGEES.
The film won the Spotlight Award at Topanga and has also received the Audience Award at San Diego Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Naples International Film Festival. After premiering in Los Angeles and Seattle, the film continues to play in theatres.

ParaNorman soundtrack to be released
ParaNorman, the new stop-motion animated comedy thriller, will be released in theaters everywhere on August 17th. The soundtrack, with its music by famed composer, record producer, and singer-songwriter Jon Brion is set for release August 14th from Relativity Music Group.
When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? "Norman!" From Focus Features and LAIKA, the companies behind the Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline, comes the comedy thriller ParaNorman. Following Coraline, ParaNorman is the second stop-motion animated feature to be made at LAIKA in 3D, unifying the two stunning art forms to tell an all-new frightfully funny, magically emotional, and hilariously spooky story.
Mr. Brion has performed with, and produced records for, artists such as Fiona Apple (When the Pawn...); Aimee Mann (Whatever; I'm with Stupid); Brad Mehldau (Largo); Rhett Miller (The Instigator); Rufus Wainwright (Rufus Wainwright); Robyn Hitchcock (A Star for Bram and Jewels for Sophia); Kanye West (Late Registration); and Evan Dando (Baby I'm Bored), as well as his own Meaningless.

His upcoming releases include Judd Apatow's This is 40 and Pixar's Umbrella Shorts. Mr. Brion performs monthly sold-out shows at Café Largo.

Peter Goetz touring with documentary in California
Peter Goetz will be performing a live set and screening his award winning documentary Sofia at multiple venues along the California coast. Multifaceted with a long list of talents, the Venice Beach native is touring this August with his introductory, pre-released album Indian Summer. An established director, producer, and musician, with 5,000 Facebook fans, over 1,000 ReverbNation followers, and an award winning film under his belt, Goetz is making a name for himself with fans around the world including Australia, Brazil, Italy and Peru.
Goetz's first performance will be at SoHo in Santa Barbara Thursday, August 9th.

Mike Stoller book signing and Elvis film screening in LA Aug. 19
Mike Stoller, of the legendary Grammy Award winning songwriting team of Leiber & Stoller, will appear for a book signing of “Hound Dog: The Leiber and Stoller Autobiography,” followed by a Question and Answer Session and screening of the 1957 Warner Bros. classic film (originally made by MGM), “Jailhouse Rock” starring Elvis Presley.

WHEN: The screening will celebrate the life of The King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley, while simultaneously commemorating the 35th Anniversary of the late singer’s passing. The event will be held on Sunday, August 19, 2012. The book signing is at 1:00 p.m. The Q&A and film screening is at 2:00 p.m.
This One Day Only Screening of the 96-minute film is an official Los Angeles 35th Anniversary celebration of the late Elvis Presley’s third film, “Jailhouse Rock” directed by Richard Thorpe featuring slambang Leiber & Stoller songs like the jaw-dropping title song and production number, “Jailhouse Rock,” along with “Baby, I Don’t Care” and more! Elvis Presley, who plays the role Vince Everett in the film, is in the pen for manslaughter. His cellmate, Hunk Houghton, played by Mickey Shaughnessy, is a former country star who introduces him to the record business. On release from prison, the King quickly rises to the top as a Rock & Roll singer. But will he remember the folks who got him there? Also starring Judy Tyler (as Peggy Van Alden), Vaughn Taylor (as Mr. Shores), Jennifer Holden (as Sherry Wilson), Dean Jones (as Teddy Talbot) and Anne Neyland (as Laury Jackson). 'Lawless' soundtrack to be released
Sony Music announces the release of the Original Motion Picture soundtrack of Lawless, the true story of the Bondurant Brothers in Prohibition-era Virginia. Based on Matt Bondurant’s book, The Wettest County In The World, the film tells the story of his grandfather and two brothers, whose bootlegging operation brings them into a terrifying collision with the law and with rival gangsters. The soundtrack, with music by Nick Cave (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Birthday Party) and Warren Ellis (Dirty Three, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and Grinderman), is available on August 28, 2012. It features music with Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley and Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) plus a never-before-released bonus track by Willie Nelson.
Australian born director John Hillcoat first teamed up with long time associate Nick Cave as a scriptwriter on The Proposition (2005). Together with Warren Ellis, Cave also composed and performed the score for this poetically violent Western set in the Australian outback. Cave and Ellis also joined forces with Hillcoat to score his next picture The Road (2009).
For Lawless, which was entered for the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Hillcoat has assembled a star cast – Tom Hardy (Star Trek: Nemesis, Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) and Shia LaBeouf (Transformers) play two of the brothers with Guy Pearce (Memento, LA Confidential, The King’s Speech) as the demented cop who hunts them down.
Along with producer Hal Willner, Cave and Ellis have created an outstanding soundtrack presenting historical recordings of some of the greatest living American voices. The score has a period feel of country and bluegrass, anchoring the film firmly in its setting: rural Virginia in 1931. Their original music mixed with the innovative vocal tracks are supported by the sound of The Bootleggers, the fittingly named band that Cave and Ellis formed for the project.
The soundtrack includes two versions of Velvet Underground’s “White Light / White Heat,” one a rollicking gut-bucket rendition by Mark Lanegan, the other performed by bluegrass veteran Ralph Stanley in his distinctive vocal style. Stanley’s appearance is all the more special since he rarely performs music outside his chosen field. Emmylou Harris, one country music’s all-time greats, joins The Bootleggers for “So You’ll Aim Toward the Sky,” originally by Grandaddy, as well as for Townes Van Zandt’s “The Snake Song.” Mark Lanegan contributes Link Wray’s “Fire and Brimstone,” and Captain Beefheart’s “Sure ’Nuff Yes I do.” To complement these inspired cover-song choices, Cave and Ellis wrote two new songs, “Cosmonaut” and “Fire in the Blood,” which comes in three wonderfully contrasting versions: Emmylou Harris sings it beautifully, then Ralph Stanley gives an intense rendering in his haunting and fragile voice, finally Harris repeats it with a greater yearning. The album closes with the plaintive & shimmering strings of Cave and Ellis’ instrumental track “End Crawl.”
The album also features the bonus track “Midnight Run” sung by Willie Nelson, who was born in the year when the Prohibition ended. The song is the about clandestine transport of moonshine whisky with a driving beat and whining harmonica.

Action Item on tour in support of music documentary
New Jersey natives, Action Item, are set to embark on a U.S. theater tour in support of the band's self-produced documentary, "When It's Over," kicking off on August 3rd in Los Angeles, CA. When It's Over gives fans a look into the life of five best friends from a small town and how they became Action Item - including tons of behind-the-scenes footage from the recording of their upcoming album and the band's world tours. You can ask any of their undying fans and they will tell you, Action Item is unlike any other band. From their creativity, to their passion, to their never-ending hard work, these New Jersey natives plan on breaking the mold.
From the start, this five-piece powerhouse has never played it safe. "We always try to top our past ideas when we market our band," explains keyboard player Mark Shami, "An independent band creating a documentary & screening it across the country was just that. We have sold out almost every date, and we couldn't be more thankful for our fans." But this is only the latest idea that has been wildly successful for the young pop act.
Action Item has been touring the last two years in support of their first EP, "The Stronger The Love," an album that has sold over 22,000 copies independently. In that time these early twenty-somethings have been direct support for Hot Chelle Rae, Andy Grammer and Allstar Weekend. Along with having support slots for Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez & Boys Like Girls under their belt. On top of that, the band has had three singles in Radio Disney's Top 30 Countdown including "Learn To Fly" a track produced by Nick Jonas of the Jonas Brothers. "Working with Nick was incredibly surreal because when someone of that stature has faith in you," bassist, David Buczkowski describes "It reaffirms that you're on the right path."
Right now, the boys are putting the finishing touches on their new EP, due out this Fall. Contracting A-List producers, the sky is the limit for them. "This album is going to show exactly where we are as a band, musically and personally," says singer Brian Cag. "I think there is a song for everyone on this record. Our personalities really shine through every track and we couldn't be more proud of it."
"Last Day of Summer," the lead single, is bursting with breath taking nostalgia, an undeniable hook & monstrous production. "No matter how old you are, you can't help but have flashbacks of the summer days that you want to relive over & over," drummer Dan Brozek proclaims with a smile.
It's unquestionable that Action Item has already accomplished more than most bands, but this is only the start. "If it's out there & you want it, you need to make it happen for yourself," states songwriter/guitarist Anthony Li. "Every single day, we wake up & think, 'How can we expand our fanbase today?' 'How can we accomplish more than we did yesterday?' 'How can we make our fans, family & friends proud today?" It's hard not to root for a band with so much heart.

'Sparkle' soundtrack to be released
The track listing for the highly anticipated Sparkle: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, is released today. The soundtrack will be available on July 31st from RCA Records.
The 11-song soundtrack features recorded performances from the late music icon Whitney Houston, as well as tracks from pop superstars Jordin Sparks and CeeLo Green including “I’m A Man,” “Hooked On Your Love,” “Look Into Your Heart” and many more. “Celebrate,” the first single is a fun, up-tempo, feel good track produced by R. Kelly featuring Sparks and Houston. The video for “Celebrate” premiered on BET and VEVO last week. The soundtrack’s second single features Houston’s soul-stirring take on the gospel classic “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”.

J.T. Thomspson making hip-hop documentary
As the world anticipates
the return of the Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards TV show to national
television later this year the creator and executive producer of the
program J.T. Thompson is preparing his new Hip Hop Music and Cultural
history documentary film entitled Hip Hop Hall of Fame Uncut.
This documentary will follow the History of Hip Hop through the eyes of
the Artists and Pioneers who started it, and lived it. We will document
their stories in the film that will be completed in time for the
Sundance Film Festival.
The project has begun filming and will include the footage from the
original Hip Hop Hall of Fame Awards show that aired on BET Network in
the 90s, and the upcoming Hip Hop Hall of Fame 'All Star' Museum
Benefit Concert on Monday July 30th. The concert and production will
feature performances by the Legendary Cold Crush Brothers, the Crash
Crew, the Fearless Four, DAS EFX, Brand Nubian, X-Clan, Black Sheep,
Rob Base, and Philly's Schoolly D.
The recent success of Ice T's film the Art of Rap, underscores the Hip
Hop Hall of Fame Uncut story will be as equally compelling with an
accurate account of the history of hip hop music and culture to the
creation of the Hip Hop Hall of Fame. The project will also include a
bonus music album compilation co-produced by Hip Hop Global Media &
Entertainment.
The Hip Hop Hall of Fame was created in 1992 by the Brooklyn born,
Queens, Harlem, and South LA raised James JT Thompson, whose
grand-uncle played with Harlem legends Billie Holiday and Louise
Armstrong, while he was working on the Historic L.A. Gang Truce and
serving as a Community Leader and Organizer in the City of Los Angeles
during the '92 LA Riots. Mr. Thompson seen there was no outreach
between the Music, Culture, Youth, and Community to effect real
Socio-Economic and Political change thru Urban Public and Private
Partnerships and Hip Hop.
J.T. Thompson established the Hip Hop Hall of Fame in partnership with
Hip Hop Pioneers, after he rebuilt the Sear's Hollywood store with at
risk youth and former gang members after the civil unrest. He also
co-founded the Minority Contractors, worked tirelessly with the
R.O.Y.A.L. Alliance of Students, Colleges, and Gang Interventions
organizations, producing music concerts, the first Hip Hop Get Out the
Vote Campaigns that even got the attention of then Presidential
Candidate Bill Clinton who came and played basketball in the
neighborhood with his group, and selected some of his members in his 50
faces of Hope.
After working on a television deal for two years the US Army Veteran
scored with African Heritage Network in late '94 that lead to the BET

Blake Mills documentary release and tour
Record Collection and Red Bull Sound Stage are thrilled to announce the release of Sound & Vision No 004, a short form documentary highlighting songwriter/producer Blake Mills. This is the 4th episode in a series that celebrates the individual stories of emerging artists. The video, which premiered last week via IFC introduces the 25-year old artist, and features commentary from Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers), James Valentine (Maroon 5), Tony Berg (producer), Sara Watkins (Nickel Creek), Jackson Browne, Kid Rock, Conor Oberst (Bright Eyes), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), and more.
Today, Rolling Stone premiered a Blake Mills and Matt Sweeney-produced Billy Gibbons track titled, "Oh Well," for the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tribute record, Just Tell Me That You Want Me: A Tribute To Fleetwood Mac. At 25, the Venice-based musician has already stacked up a career's worth of gigs as a session and touring guitarist, playing with a diverse array of musicians that span from Cass McCombs to Kid Rock. When producers like Rick Rubin need a guitarist, Mills is the first call. His flawless technique and uncanny confidence matched with a unique interpretation of every piece of music he touches has turned Mills into one of the most in-demand players in the music business.
As a guitarist, Mills is in a league of his own. As a songwriter, he's downright intimidating. After cutting his teeth in Simon Dawes, the band he co-founded in high school with Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Mills stepped out on his own, recording the highly personal 9-song album, Break Mirrors (Record Collection, 2010). Oddly enough, the original intention of Break Mirrors was to serve as a calling card for Mills to get session work and despite the low-key nature of the release, friends and fellow musicians began testifying about the strength of the record. Within months, as burned CD's and cassettes got passed around, that small group of fans quickly turned into a mass of believers. By the end of 2011, a handful of web sites and bands were hailing Break Mirrors as one of the year's very best.
As a collaborator, Mills never vies for the spotlight. Instead, he works to elevate the level of everyone around him. Over the last five years Mills has accompanied artists such as Fiona Apple, Lucinda Williams, Conor Oberst, Julian Casablancas, Cass McCombs, Band of Horses, and Dawes.
In late 2011, after spending back-to-back years on tour and in the studio playing on other people's records, Blake decided it was time to move into the producer's chair. "I've recently enjoyed working in the studio as a producer," says Blake. It's given me the opportunity to explore concepts that are sometimes broader than just guitar parts." In less than a year Mills has produced recordings for ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Jesca Hoop, HAIM, Dawes, and Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins.

'Troubadour Blues' screenings in Santa Monica June 2 and Altadena June 5
Troubadour Blues is a journey into the world of well-traveled singer-songwriterslike Peter Case, Mary Gauthier, Chris Smither, Dave Alvin, Slaid Cleaves and many more. Filmmaker Tom Weber spent nearly 10 years gathering material for this feature-length documentary, which provides a revealing look at the heartbreaks and joys of these modern-day wandering minstrels.
The 95-minute film premiered Oct. 14, 2011, at the Buffalo International Film Festival. It features live performances of 40 songs by the artists who wrote them, including Case's "Icewater" and "Entella Hotel," Gauthier's "Drag Queens In Limousines" and "Wheel Inside The Wheel," Alvin's "Ashgrove" and Smither's breathtaking rendition of "No Love Today."
We see the artists both on and off stage. In revealing interviews, the artists discuss their craft and the state of the music business today. Case's story provides the film's main narrative, and we go with him to Hamburg, NY, where he grew up and learned to sing the blues, to San Francisco, where he polished his craft as a street musician, and to Los Angeles, where he played in influential bands like the Nerves and Plimsouls before launching a 30-year solo career.
This is a story that needs to be heard. In our media-saturated age of instant pop stardom, there is real danger that the tradition of the itinerant working musician is being diluted or lost. This is a concern expressed in the film by a number of artists. Troubadour Blues explores the hidden corners of our culture, where honest, authentic songs reflecting the human experience are still being written and sung.

Case's story provides the film's main narrative, and we go with him to Hamburg, NY, where he grew up and learned to sing the blues, to San Francisco, where he polished his craft as a street musician, and to Los Angeles, where he played in influential bands like the Nerves and Plimsouls before launching a 30-year solo career.
This is a story that needs to be heard. In our media-saturated age of instant pop stardom, there is real danger that the tradition of the itinerant working musician is being diluted or lost. This is a concern expressed in the film by a number of artists. Troubadour Blues explores the hidden corners of our culture, where honest, authentic songs reflecting the human experience are still being written and sung.

'The Highest Pass' opens in Pasadena April 27
Part heart-pounding adventure, part spiritual quest, THE HIGHEST PASS, a feature length documentary directed by Jon Fitzgerald, will premiere in Los Angeles at Laemmle’s Monica 4-Plex and in Pasadena at Laemmle’s Playhouse 7 starting April 27, 2012. The award-winning film shares the journey of seven seekers who follow a guru with a Vedic death prophecy on a motorcycle trip up to the highest pass of the Indian Himalayas. Jon Anderson, lead vocal for YES, wrote two original songs for the film including the title song, “The Highest Pass.”
A young guru, Anand Mehrotra, asks his followers to join him in India on a motorcycle journey that will begin in Rishikesh, the birthplace of yoga, and will end in the high mountain region of Ladakh. Adam Schomer accepts the challenge, even though he’s never ridden a motorcycle and joins Mehrotra, who at twenty-seven bears a prophecy that he will die in an accident before the age of thirty. They are joined by five men including: Paul Greene (entrepreneur), Mike Owen (stuntman), Eric Braff (graphic designer), Brooks Hale (Broadway producer), Rich Parkerson (technology entrepreneur) and one woman, Ariana de Bonvoisin (author). Their expedition will take them 2000 km over some of the most dangerous roads in the world where they ultimately climb over the highest motorable mountain pass on Earth meet a Tibetan oracle. Each rider will face his or her own form of ‘death.’ Says Schomer, “I don’t ride motorcycles, I think they are dangerous. So I just said ‘yes.’”
Schomer, who has his worst fears exposed in the film, is also the writer and producer. He has been a student of Mehrotra’s Sattva yoga for three years. This is his first feature documentary production with a second documentary, WHEN THE DUST SETTLES, which takes a deep look into the effects of nuclear testing on the children of Kazakhstan, currently in post-production.
This is the second documentary for Fitzgerald (THE BACK NINE/Magnolia), the former festival director of the American Film Institute, Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Abu Dhabi Film Festival. He is also one of the original founders of the Slamdance Film Festival. Fitzgerald, who recently launched Cinecause.com, a web platform that connects socially relevant films to related causes, says of the experience, “I recognized how many obstacles we would face, challenges on every level, particularly from a production standpoint. Yet, I also knew, selfishly, that I would grow as a person through the experience of being led by a modern yogi in the most spiritual places of India.“
Anderson, leader singer of YES, wrote two songs for the film (“The Highest Pass” and “Waking Up”) with composer Michael Mollura. Mollura’s work has been heard in HBO’s HOT COFFEE and CLIMATE REFUGEES.
The film won the Spotlight Award at Topanga and has also received the Audience Award at San Diego Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Documentary at the Naples International Film Festival.

Grateful Dead on a movie screen near you April 19
This spring, Grateful Dead Second Annual Meet-Up At The Movies 2012 will take audiences on a flashback trip to the summer of ‘89 for a one-night in-theater concert event on Thursday, April 19 at 7:00 p.m. local time. Recorded July 18, 1989, at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre, this never-before-seen concert is directly from the Grateful Dead vault. This iconic concert, featuring Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Brent Mydland, Phil Lesh, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart, was recorded the night after the Dead’s legendary Downhill from Here performance in East Troy, Wis. Dead Heads in attendance will experience the two-and-a-half hour concert in its entirety, including fan favorites, as well as a rare split of “Sugar Magnolia,” “Dear Mr. Fantasy,” and “Hey Jude Medley.” Before the start of the concert, movie theater audiences will also be treated to a slideshow of rare photos of the band by Jim Anderson and John Cantamessa, along with a previously unreleased live track recorded in Hartford, Conn. in July of 1974. Additionally, before the show time, Fathom will feature a handful of the top submissions from the recent Dead Covers Project, which encouraged fans to upload videos of their covers of Dead tracks to Dead.net. This is the second annual Grateful Dead fan meet-up following last year’s successful event, which sold out in several locations across the U.S.

'The Bodyguard' at at movie theater near you March 28
One of the biggest box office hits of the 1990s returns to movie theaters this month celebrating The 20th Anniversary of The Bodyguard, a special one-night in-theater event on Wednesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. local time. Starring Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, The Bodyguard became one of the most popular hits of 1992, marking Houston's acting debut. Additionally, The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album went on to become the No. 1 best-selling soundtrack of all time with nearly 12 million copies sold in the U.S., and the sixth best-selling album overall in the Nielsen SoundScan era. Featuring the hugely successful cover of "I Will Always Love You," the album also launched four other hit singles for Houston: “I'm Every Woman,” “Queen of the Night,” and two Oscar® nominated songs, “I Have Nothing” and "Run to You.”

Directed by Mick Jackson, Costner stars as a former Secret Service Agent-turned-bodyguard who is hired to protect Houston's character, a music star, from an unknown stalker. The bodyguard ruffles the singer's feathers and most of her entourage by tightening security more than they feel is necessary. Eventually the bodyguard and the singer start an affair, and she begins to believe his precautions are necessary when the stalker strikes close to home.
Warner Bros. will release The Bodyguard 20th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray™ on March 27. Special features include Houston’s well-known “I Will Always Love You” music video and “Memories of The Bodyguard,” a making-of documentary. Featuring director Mick Jackson, writer/producer Lawrence Kasdan, actors Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner and others, the cast and crew will discuss the story’s 17-year path to the screen, reworks of the script, how Jackson and Houston joined the production and more.

Following Monday's performance of “Everyday Sunshine”, “Lyin' Ass Bitch” intro (and we all remember that late night TV controversy...ahem...Michelle Bachmann) into “Crazy Glue” on Jimmy Kimmel Live! we are proud to announce the documentary's release today, February 1st in honor of Black History Month. The film is being distributed via digital and home video by Cinema Guild, which will present the film exclusively as part of the celebration of Black History Month, and via home video starting February 21st.
When Fishbone first emerged from California, no other band sounded or looked like them, and the weight of their innovative and iconic presence is still being felt decades later. Coinciding with the group’s 25th anniversary, filmmakers Lev Anderson & Chris Metzler have directed a compelling new documentary, narrated by Laurence Fishburne. Everyday Sunshine: The Story of Fishbone is both a fascinating and brutally honest look at the band’s history for longtime fans, as well as a perfect entry point for newcomers.
Everyday Sunshine is a documentary about the band Fishbone, musical pioneers who have been rocking on the margins of pop culture for the past 25 years. From the streets of South Central-Los Angeles and the competitive Hollywood music scene of the 1980's, the band rose to prominence, only to fall apart when on the verge of "making it."
Laurence Fishburne narrates Everyday Sunshine, an entertaining cinematic journey into the personal lives of this unique Black rock band, and an untold story of fiercely individual artists in their quest to reclaim their musical legacy while debunking the myths of young Black men from urban America. Highlighting the parallel journeys of a band and their city, Everyday Sunshine explores the personal and cultural forces that gave rise to California's legendary Black punk sons that continue to defy categories and expectations.
At the heart of Fishbone's story is lead singer Angelo Moore and bassist Norwood Fisher who show how they keep the band rolling, out of pride, desperation and love for their art. To overcome money woes, family strife, and the strain of being aging Punk rockers on the road, Norwood and Angelo are challenged to re-invent themselves in the face of dysfunction and ghosts from a painful past.
The documentary includes interviews with: Gwen Stefani (No Doubt), Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Ice-T (rapper), Branford Marsalis (saxophonist), Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction, Porno For Pyros), Questlove (The Roots), and more. Included in the documentary is 100+ minutes of bonus features including interview outtakes, deleted scenes and unreleased photos and performance footage from the bands early years
