This concert special marks the fifth time nominations for the annual GRAMMY Awards will be announced live on primetime television. Last year's airing of the nominations special helped lead to increased ratings for the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards, which attracted 39.9 million viewers, the largest GRAMMY audience since 1984 and the second largest in history. The telecast was also the biggest social event in the history of television to date, drawing 13 million social media comments with the conversation on Twitter reaching a record high at 160,341 tweets per minute during the live telecast. Additionally, the 54th GRAMMY Awards telecast received six Emmy® nominations and won two: Outstanding Art Direction For Variety Or Nonfiction Programming (Brian Stonestreet, Production Designer; Alana Billingsley, Art Director; Matt Steinbrenner, Art Director) and Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction For A Variety Special (Robert A. Joe Jackson will perform songs in honor of Duke Ellington as well as his own hits in a live television event exclusively on AXS TV. As he kicks off his world tour this fall, Jackson’s “Joe Jackson & The Bigger Band Live From the Count Basie Theatre, Featuring Special Guest Regina Carter” will broadcast LIVE from the historic Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, New Jersey, on Tuesday, September 25th. Ben Lee DVD documentary to be released
Visit Films announced today the release date for BEN LEE:CATCH MY DISEASE, a playful, yet profoundly intimate portrait of Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee. Visit Films is partnering with Los Angeles based distributor GoDigital for the digital release on Cable and Internet VOD and is distributing the DVD through Baxter Brothers Film Releasing in partnership with Strand Releasing.
The focus of this documentary is charming, intelligent and iconoclastic Australian singer-songwriter BEN LEE, whose creative growth since his early adolescence has undergone almost relentless media scrutiny. This is a playful yet deeply intimate portrait of Lee, exploring his meteoric rise to pop stardom and the issues of celebrity and spirituality that arise when launched into the spotlight. Ex-girlfriend CLAIRE DANES and long-time friends JASON SCHWARTZMAN, MICHELLE WILLIAMS, THURSTON MOORE, BEASTIE BOY MIKE D, ZOOEY DESCHANEL and WINONA RYDER give insight to Lee’s almost impenetrable public persona, as well as to his private hopes and insecurities.
"It's exciting for this film to have a US release. I find the mere fact of its existence mortifying in all the appropriate ways. It's intimate, honest, sometimes embarrassing and quite transparent. It follows my personal journey from fame-hungry wanna-be pop star to married father/step-father yearning for spiritual transcendence. This journey is usually a private one, but probably one that most artists experience and can relate to," said Ben Lee, the subject of the film.
Almost ten years in the making, BEN LEE: CATCH MY DISEASE was written, directed and produced by filmmaker Amiel Courtin-Wilson (Bastardy, Hail), who also served as the principal cinematographer. Producers Richard Lowenstein, Andrew de Groot and Philippa Campey are also attached to the documentary, which features an original soundtrack composed by Steve Benwell. The film is presented by Ghost Pictures in association with Screen Australia, Film Victoria, The Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund, and The Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
“The digital release is set to be the premier for this doc, as it has seen only one screening to date in the US,” said GoDigital CEO Logan Mulvey, “That’s something we are very excited about.”

Trace Adkins honors Great American Heroes of GAC Aug. 22
Country music superstar Trace Adkins knows a thing or two about heroes, and this fall he’s bringing their stories to life in the new series Great American Heroes on GAC. Great American Heroes follows Adkins on his nationwide Songs & Stories tour as he takes time away from the stage to pay tribute to ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their local communities. Great American Heroes premieres Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. ET. Episodes will re-air on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET.
In each episode, Adkins visits with three hometown heroes to learn about and acknowledge their efforts, and surprise them with something special to help them continue their good work. As a bonus, Adkins hosts the local heroes as special guests at his concert in their hometown.
Overcoming his own life-changing experiences, Adkins has emerged a tireless supporter of U.S. troops and many other worthy causes. It was his desire to spotlight the good works of others that led him to GAC with his concept for the new series.

In Davenport, Iowa, Adkins showcases the work of two sets of parents who develop programs for special needs children.

Paul McCartney in performance on PBS Sept. 7
Paul McCartney's Live Kisses captures the magical night of February 9 in the City of Angels - coincidentally, the 48th anniversary of The Beatles' U.S. TV debut on The Ed Sullivan Show no less --when Paul McCartney decided to bring Kisses On The Bottom, his newly released collection of pop standards and two originals, to life at the very same Capitol Studios where much of the album was created.
The very special event will air on Great Performances, Friday, September 7 at 9 p.m. on PBS. (Check local listings.)
A few hours after the long awaited addition of McCartney's star to the Hollywood Walk of Fame drew a traffic-stopping throng to pack the stretch of Vine Street in front of the famed Capitol Records building, McCartney took his place behind the same microphone that had captured so many of the most magical voices of the past several decades, while the core team that backed McCartney on his debut turn on Kisses, prepared to reprise their roles in this one-time-only concert event. McCartney and the assembled musicians had never performed this material live adding to the evening's electricity.
The reunited all-star entourage included Grammy-winning producer Tommy LiPuma and Al Schmitt in the control room, musical director Diana Krall at the piano, and Kisses players John Clayton, Karriem Riggins, John Pizzarelli, Anthony Wilson, Mike Mainieri and conductor Alan Broadbent.
McCartney eschewed his usual tools of bass, guitar and piano to focus solely on his vocal interpretations of this material. A Chance to Dance airs Aug. 17 on Ovation
Ovation, the only multi-platform network dedicated to art, artists and all forms of artistic storytelling, is set to premiere its new, original series A CHANCE TO DANCE on Friday, August 17 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
A CHANCE TO DANCE, executive produced by Nigel and Simon Lythgoe, follows Michael Nunn and Billy Trevitt, two of the UK’s most prominent contemporary dancers and choreographers, in their quest to create a new dance company for Nigel Lythgoe in just 28 days. Traveling across the country, they audition dancers from dance schools in Washington, DC; Salt Lake City, UT; and Austin, TX. The competition and the pressure intensify as the final group heads to the dance mecca of Jacob’s Pillow, MA, where they must eliminate half the dancers and form a company for the grand finale: an original live performance in New York City.
“It was no easy feat to take mainstream dance to the level that it’s now synonymous with pop culture and television entertainment,” said Nigel Lythgoe, CEO, Nigel Lythgoe Productions. “Now that it is, we are thrilled to share with audiences a more grueling, raw and rare glimpse into what it takes to make it a true American dance company. Michael and William are the real thing and they were not just looking for the next hot thing, they were scouring the nation for the highest caliber of professionally trained dancers.”

Joyce DiDonato documentary on PBS July 20

HOMECOMING: THE KANSAS CITY SYMPHONY PRESENTS JOYCE DiDONATO airs as part of the PBS ARTS SUMMER FESTIVAL, a multi-platform event anchored by seven films that highlight artists and performances from around the world.
The film captures candid backstage moments and personal interviews with Stern, members of the symphony and DiDonato as she returns home for her debut performance at the Kauffman Center. Viewers also get a front-row seat to the remarkable performance in the center’s grand Helzberg Hall. The interviews and music intertwine in a remarkable celebration of the lives and careers of these musicians.

Everyone’s life has a personal soundtrack. BYUtv’s original new TV series, The Song That Changed My Life, tells the story behind an artist’s inspiration and reveals the song that changed the direction of their life.
On Monday, July 9 at 7:30pm MT/9:30pm ET (replays at 10:30 MT/12:30 a.m. ET), the latest episode of this new music series features pop folk band Over the Rhine performing songs from their haunting new album, The Long Surrender. This Ohio-based group is made up of husband-and-wife team pianist/guitarist/bassist Linford Detweiler and vocalist/guitarist Karin Bergquist. Known for creating albums that reflect chapters of their lives, this duo has shared the stage with Bob Dylan, John Prine, Adrian Belew, Squeeze, Ani DiFranco, My Morning Jacket, Hem, and toured as "adjunct" members of Cowboy Junkies. Over the Rhine is currently on tour in the U.S. Their latest album, The Long Surrender, was produced by multi-Grammy winner Joe Henry, who brought a dark, cinematic tone to Over the Rhine's sophisticated folk pop.
The Song That Changed My Life includes candid conversations, informal interviews, never-before-seen rehearsal footage and performance, offering an intimate view into an artist’s creative process and how that one pivotal piece of music inspires and continues to motivate their careers.

Neon Trees on BYUtv July 3
What makes an Indie band tick? The general consensus among the subjects featured in Audio-Files – a new BYUtv television series of half-hour documentaries about the Indie music scene’s most outstanding ascending artists – is that they’re compelled to make music by some kind of irrefutable inner force.
The trendsetting series explores what drives these folks to become musicians, to lead a life full of unknowns, big risks and possible great rewards. According to Dan Reynolds, lead singer and songwriter for Imagine Dragons, who were featured in the series’ debut, music is undoubtedly a risky career, but he feels the need to pursue it nonetheless. “It’s the only way I know how to communicate with people … and I haven’t done anything else since I was 14.” In the Paper Route episode, Chad Howat (bass, piano), had a similar comment. “Somebody gave me advice that if you could do anything else besides music, you should. So that’s been my driving force. I can’t see myself doing anything else. I won’t be able to sleep at night if I don’t give music a shot.” In the upcoming Neon Trees episode, lead guitarist Chris Allen, explains that music is just an intrinsic part of who he is. “It’s what I need to do to feel normal.”
Audio-Files is shot in High Definition cinéma vérité style using handheld cameras, giving the pieces a gritty, soul-searching Super 8 tone. Through candid conversations with the artists, never-before-seen unplugged performances and concert footage, the series offers an audio-visual experience that is unique, original and powerful, and creates a genuine relationship between the musicians and the audience. Audio-Files provides a subtext to the music, allows viewers to take an unfiltered peek inside the heads and hearts of the performers and illustrates how an Indie rock band makes its way in the competitive music scene.
In addition to Imagine Dragons, and Paper Route, the first season of the series has featured Mason Jennings, Joshua James and Low. The next episode, about Mercury Records’ Provo, Utah-based band Neon Trees, airs on Tuesday, July 3 at 6:30pm MT/8:30pm ET (replays on July 4 at 12:30am MT/2:30am ET). Milo Greene on 'Letterman' July 26
Los Angeles-based quintet Milo Greene will make its national television debut on "Late Show with David Letterman" on July 26. The band will perform "1957," the lead single from its self-titled debut album, which is scheduled for release on July 17 by Chop Shop/Atlantic Records.
Milo Greene just premiered "Take A Step," another track from their upcoming album, at PigeonsandPlanes.com, which noted: "With a sound reminiscent of Local Natives and a musclier version of the Fleet Foxes, 'Take A Step' dives into a driving, melancholy groove that's perfect for the sort of rainy summer days we've been having in New York or a nice sunset at the beach-your call."
Milo Greene, which supported The Civil Wars on their 2011 U.S. tour, will play a sold out show at the legendary Troubadour in Los Angeles on Saturday, June 23, and at New York City's Mercury Lounge on July 26. The band's summer tour will also include a stop in Chicago, where they will perform at Schuba's with The War on Drugs (8/3) and at Lollapalooza (8/ 4). See below for itinerary.
"LA quintet Milo Greene floored the audience with their soaring melodies and unbridled enthusiasm," said ConsequenceofSound.net in a live review. "Warming hearts with lines such as 'I'll go, I'll go wherever you go,' and the vibrant chemistry between the multipart vocals, picking a definitive highlight of the brief yet impressive set was immensely difficult. The extended, rocking version of '1957' for the closer would be a definite candidate, though, as it left the crowd begging for another song and the set lists on paper plates."
NPR Music singled out Milo Greene as one of the most promising new bands, PasteMagazine.com praised their "beautiful harmonies" and Time Out New York said: "[their] giddy pop songs recall Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros."
Milo Greene is: Robbie Arnett, Graham Fink, Andrew Heringer, Curtis Marrero and Marlana Sheetz. The quintet co-produced its debut album with Ryan Hadlock (The Lumineers, RaRaRiot, The Gossip) at Bear Creek Studio, a converted turn-of-the-century barn outside Seattle.

'Havana, Havana!' on PBS July 27
HAVANA, HAVANA! is a music documentary that explores how changes in Cuba are inspiring a new generation of musicians. The program premieres July 27, 2012, 9:00-10:00 p.m. ET on PBS (check local listings) as part of the PBS ARTS SUMMER FESTIVAL, a multiplatform event anchored by seven films that highlight art, artists and performances from around the world.
Musicians Raul Paz, Descemer Bueno, Kelvis Ochoa and David Torrens each have their own unique stories to tell, but their lives share a common theme. Each of them chose to leave Cuba and make his musical career abroad, and each decided to return home with the goal of reinvigorating the musical life of the country they left behind. Today, they are making music in Cuba again (together and separately), bringing to their songs the sounds and rhythms of other cultures – jazz, electro, hip-hop, soul – and injecting a new spirit into the traditional Cuban music of their childhoods.
The storyline of HAVANA, HAVANA! builds to a much-anticipated concert featuring the country’s “prodigal sons,” brought together by Paz. The film shows Paz, Bueno, Ochoa and Torrens during rehearsal, sharing musical ideas and blending their distinctive styles. Throughout, the musicians’ interviews are intercut with scenes of concert preparations and visits to places where they grew up and first learned to love music. Woven together, their stories create a fugue: each of the musicians was nourished by traditional Cuban music; each was fascinated by music from other cultures; and each left Cuba to find himself as an artist. The film captures the poignancy of their homecoming and the triumph of their concert in Havana, where they play together for the first time for the Cuban people.
“This is the story of great musicians most Americans don’t know,” says David Grubin, multiple Emmy® Award winner and the film’s producer. “As grandchildren of Cuba’s revolution, Paz, Bueno, Ochoa and Torrens faced unexpected bumps on their journeys, but ultimately prove the spirit of the Cuban people is alive and well.”
