WHAT: Esotouric's Weird West Adams Crime Bus Tour
WHEN: Saturday January 26, 1-5pm
COST: $55/person
In January Esotouric, the offbeat bus adventure company whose specialty is unearthing the most fascinating criminal skeletons from L.A.'s civic closet, presents a very special true crime tour, Weird West Adams. On this guided tour through the Beverly Hills of the early 20th Century,Crime Bus passengers thrill to the carjacking horror of silent film starlet Myrtle Gonzalez, shiver as Dream Killer Otto Parzyjegla chops his newspaper publisher boss to pieces with the paper-cutting blade, shudder at the pickled poignancy of the murder-by-brandy of Benjamin Weber, marvel at the Krazy Kafitz family and their litany of murder-suicides, attempted husband slayings, Byzantine estate battles and mad bombings, then gag at terrible fate visited on kidnap victim Marion Parker by The Fox.
There will be some celebrity sites along the route, including the death scenes of Motown soul sensation Marvin Gaye and 1920s star Angels baseball catcher Gus Sandberg. And the architecture too is to die for, as the Crime Bus rolls down the elegant streets of old West Adams, lined with gay mansions, adorable bungalows and signs of a century's decay which only enhance the neighborhood's charm.
Passengers on this eye-opening, funny and informative tour will forever see the West Adams district in a new light. It is highly recommended for natives and newcomers alike, crime and history buffs and anyone who likes to seek out the unexpected.

Grammys launch contest for unsigned artists to perform on show
The Recording Academy® today officially launched the second and unique installment of "My GRAMMY® Moment" for the 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards, following the successful "My GRAMMY Moment" debut segment with Justin Timberlake on the 49th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Continuing its mission of discovering and nurturing music makers, this year The Academy is giving unsigned instrumentalists the opportunity to vie for a performance on Music's Biggest Night® with current five-time GRAMMY-nominated rock band the Foo Fighters. Interested musicians can submit up to a 60-second performance video showcasing their talent and view a special message from the Foo Fighters on YouTube (www.youtube.com/mygrammymoment) — the official online partner of "My GRAMMY Moment 2008."
A Grammy Blue Ribbon Panel will determine the 45 quarter finalists, with the public vote narrowing the field to semi-finalists who will perform with the Foo Fighters as part of an orchestra, and one winner as the featured instrumentalist. Users can log directly onto YouTube to access the video submissions, video viewing and voting site. Content also will be available on the CBS Audience Network and its more than 200 online partners. The 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, and is scheduled to be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
"We are pleased to once again provide talented and unsigned musicians the chance to grace the GRAMMY stage," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy. "This year, we reach even deeper into the incredibly diverse musical community by giving an ensemble of instrumentalists the chance to participate in another special and unique 'GRAMMY Moment.' The Academy and our GRAMMY Foundation have made music education and career enhancement a priority 365 days of the year, and this interactive component is yet another reflection of our mission to directly engage young musicians with the opportunity of a lifetime."
"This is an incredible opportunity for an up-and-coming musician to perform live on the GRAMMY stage on Music’s Biggest Night with one of the most creative and successful rock bands today," said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events, CBS.
"An appearance on the GRAMMY Awards is one of the highest honors a musical artist can achieve," said Ken Ehrlich, co-executive producer of the GRAMMY Awards. "By opening our show to a new generation of young musicians who will realize their dreams early in their career, we hope to inspire a generation of future music makers who will see that anything is possible."
"From the classical cellist to the emerging rock star, YouTube provides a unique opportunity for all musicians to market and promote their music and directly engage their fans," said Chad Hurley, CEO and co-founder, YouTube. "'My GRAMMY Moment' 2008 is an amazing opportunity for a talented group of people to play on stage with one of the most iconic bands today, and I'm excited to see the performance."
"Bringing all these powerhouse brands together — CBS, the GRAMMYs, the Foo Fighters and YouTube — to allow fans to be an integral part of the GRAMMY experience is what the interactive community is all about," said Joe Ferreira, Sr. Vice President/GM, CBS Audience Network.

ROB KAPILOW'S FIRST LIVE FROM LINCOLN CENTER TELECAST ON JANUARY 10* WILL BE SHOWN IN NEW YORK, LOS ANGELES, CHICAGO, AND KEY MARKETS THROUGHOUT NORTH AMERICA
KAPILOW'S LINCOLN CENTER PODCASTS WERE DESCRIBED BY iTUNES IN ITS CLASSICAL MUSIC YEAR-END NEWSLETTER AS ITS "FAVORITE NEW PODCASTS OF 2007"
KAPILOW RETURNS TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WITH "WHAT MAKES IT GREAT?: MOZART CLARINET CONCERTO" LIVE AT THE CERRITOS CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS ON WEDNESDAY, FEB. 27, 7:30 PM
Rob Kapilow has been performing at Lincoln Center for more than a dozen years - indeed, he is the only artist with his own annual series in the "Great Performers" series, so his first Live From Lincoln Center telecast, to air on January 10, 2008*, is long-awaited.
Public TV stations scheduled to broadcast Kapilow's Live From Lincoln Center program with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center include more than a dozen of the major markets in the country. "I Can't Believe It's Schoenberg!" - Kapilow's name for the program - makes light of the difficulty that the composer's name still causes some listeners, even today. In fact, Schoenberg's early work, Transfigured Night (Verklärte Nacht), is one of the lushest, most romantic scores in existence. Audiences all over the country will have a chance to find out exactly What Makes Schoenberg Great!
Kapilow's new video podcasts of two of his "What Makes It Great? ®" shows were listed in iTunes's classical music end-of-year newsletter as its "favorite new podcasts of 2007" and are available there and at the Lincoln Center web site for free download. The subjects are Bach's Italian Concerto and Mendelssohn's Octet.
iTunes says:
Our favorite new podcast of 2007 features NPR commentator Rob Kapilow dissecting the works of the great composers, live in concert at Lincoln Center. It's a video podcast, so you get to watch as he and a cast of first-rate musicians give you a guided tour of the music in the first half, and perform the whole thing in the second.

Bushwhack makes a buzz with debut
It’s uncommon that an all-instrumental rock band can keep the attention span of non-musicians. But due to their penchant for crafting memorable non-vocal melodies along with their impressive, expert chops, Bushwhack is one such band that manages to successfully walk that fine line – as evidenced by their recently issued self-titled debut (available online and through iTunes).
Comprised of guitarist Jamie Van Dyck, bassist Brandon Green, keyboardist/samplist Frank Sacramone, and drummer Ben Shanbrom, the New Haven, CT-based quartet has created an undeniable buzz on the strength of their debut, which features design by renowned artist Ioannis, as well as photographs by another renowned name in the rock world – Mark Weiss.
Upon inspection of Bushwhack’s thirteen track debut – produced by Jeff Cannata – it quickly becomes apparent that the band posses a sound that brings to mind such acts (and chief Bushwhack influences) as Dream Theater and Porcupine Tree. However, like all rock bands that manage to stand out from the pack, Bushwhack transcend their influences, creating their own unique sound/style in the process – something that is becoming increasingly uncommon in rock’s current climate.
But according to Sacramone, their non-vocal approach isn’t something they deliberately set out to do. But rather, it happened naturally, and at this point, is a crucial ingredient to the Bushwhack sound. “We haven’t really found a singer that has meshed with the band yet. Our band is comprised of four very close friends, and we need someone with a voice that would actually improve the melodic and tonal quality of the music.”
Van Dyck adds, “The idea of a vocalist, we figured would fall into our laps. Now, here we are three years later. We are kind of reaching a fork in the road – we can continue as an instrumental unit, or we add a vocalist. Until we find the right vocalist, we’re probably not going to go down the vocalist path.”
Which is just as well – judging from the strength of such tracks as “The Greatest Wall,” “Sea of Tranquility,” and “Introspection,” the compositions easily stand on their own.
“The album has a collection of songs from about a span of two/two and a half years,” explains Sacramone. “It’s pretty diverse. Our consistency and our ability to write throughout those two years – we have been able to pursue the sound we wanted and not change due to trends or anyone’s wishing – accept our own."
And when it comes to the Bushwhack live experience, the band holds their own – even with the absence of a bonafide frontman, points out Sacramone. “Don’t take us for not being able to put on a live show. A big part of our success is our live performance. You will never expect an instrumental band to act like a hardcore metal band jumping around the stage, with such sophisticated music. But that’s exactly what we do. Ben destroys the drum set, I have a Keytar and run around – I even jump into the crowd, do 360’s off stage! It’s got a balance of fun and intensity at the same time.”
Another factor has recently come into play for the band, as well. “We have to face the fact that we’re college students,” adds Van Dyck. “We have the decision to make – do we finish college, or is something big enough going to happen in the coming months that is going to cause us to take a year off – or even drop out?”
Judging from the promise and strength of ‘Bushwhack,’ the prog metal world will benefit greatly if the members choose the latter…

With their successful headlining gig on The Victory Tour last Fall, most of Bayside have returned home and are chilling with their families and friends (Anthony is currently on a solo acoustic tour). However, these hardworking boys from Long Island don't have much time to get too comfortable since they have not only announced another round of headlining tour dates but they're also shooting a video for "Carry On" from their latest album The Walking Wounded.
Kicking off on January 25th in Providence, RI and returning back home on March 1st in Farmingdale, NY, the band will be supported by Straylight Run and Four Year Strong with Tokyo Rose and The Status switching mid-tour. A majority of the tour dates are on presale now at the Bayside Social Club (www.baysidesocialclub.com ).

New music from The Architects in April
Rock's never sounded grittier, dirtier, and HUGER... BIGGER... and AWESOMER than on The Architects' upcoming album that streets April 15th. Big, classic-sounding guitar tones... roomy, punchy drums... filthy-awesome bass sounds... lots of songs along similar themes)- all this audio-input plus watching The Kids Are Alright in the studio lounge and reading Rolling Stone articles where Panic! at the Disco is claiming to be making a more "classic rock" record has gotten these Kansas City punkers fired up and ready to present what rock is supposed to sound like... grittier, dirtier, huger, bigger and awesomer. And after a decade in The Gadjits and now The Architects, the band knows how to rock.
Listen and weep... and weep you will.
