Rock Band coming to local bars
Harmonix Music Systems and MTV Games, a part of Viacom’s MTV Networks (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), today announced the launch of “Rock Band Bar Nights,” a ground-breaking initiative providing tools for U.S. bar owners to host their own Rock Band™ Nights. The program gives bars a cutting-edge in-bar entertainment option to help increase foot traffic and provide Rock Band fans with the opportunity to take the stage for a true rock star experience.
Rock Band – featuring a full band performance with guitar, bass, drums and mic – is revolutionizing the standard karaoke night in bars. The Rock Band Bar Nights program expands the Rock Band social experience for current fans and gives new fans the opportunity to try the game in an authentic performance setting with a live crowd cheering them on.
To help venues host and promote their own Rock Band Bar Nights, the program offers support to registered bars with everything from exclusive Rock Band product offerings to multiplatform marketing support. MTV's "Ulalume" Halloween festival coming to Maryland
MTV will unearth explosive performances by Paramore, AFI, Dead By Sunrise, KID CUDI and more in its first-ever Halloween festival, “Ulalume” on Friday, October 23, 2009 at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. Under a gray autumn sky with withering leaves, the festival grounds will transform into a ghoul haunted woodland featuring a costume contest and more tricks set to unfold throughout the night. Performances straight from “Ulalume” will air during a Halloween-themed week on MTV, MTV.com, mtvU, and mtvU.com, with more details to be announced.
Edgar Allen Poe’s poem, “Ulalume,” possesses a rhythmic sound and repetition that gives the ballad a musical quality, inspiring the name for MTV’s festival. Packed with the hottest music, the all-star lineup of performers will head straight into the lair of the lion and set the stage on fire with their latest tracks.
Paramore, nominated for a 2009 MTV Video Music Award in the “Best Rock Video” category for “Decode,” the lead single from the film Twilight, will treat fans to their power-punk rock sound. The band’s latest album, “brand new eyes” is slated for release on September 29th and viewers can also tune in this fall to MTV “Unplugged” for a stripped down, acoustic version of Paramore’s songs.
AFI, who previously won MTV’s VMA “Best Rock Video” for “Miss Murder,” will unleash pure mayhem as they take the stage. The band recently released the new single “Medicate,” and will let its eighth album “Crash Love” loose on September 29th, following two consecutive platinum albums.

Chicus has been one of New York City's most innovative and adventurous DJ's since he first hit the reggae, drum n' bass and broken-beat scenes in the mid nineties. Keeping an ear to both the streets of Brooklyn and to European dancefloors, Chicus is best known for combining the borough's rich reggae tradition with a keensense of the new, creating a unique and unmistakable sound in all of his Dj sets and productions.
Having toured the dance capitals of both Europe and North America, Chicus founded Redbud Records in 2001,releasing dub, roots, dancehall and electronic 12" and 45's with contributions from such producers as Ticklah, Victor Rice, Biggabush, Zeb, Inverse Cinematics, Al-Haca Soundsystem and others. In 2006 Redbud releasedit's first full length CD, The Chosen One, from Brooklyn based roots revivalist Rob Symeonn, which featuressome of Kingston's most legendary musicians as well as dancehall stars Junior Kelly and Terry Ganzie.
Most recently Chicus has been making a name with his genre-defying mashups under the pseudonym Black Locust, mixing up artists such as Justin Timberlake, T-Pain and Sean Paul into original versions that capture his trademark sound.
Chicus has performed internationally with artists such as Jazzanova, Daz-I-Kue, Domu, Viktor Duplaix,Stereotyp and Sister Carol, and has manned the decks at NYC institutions such as Koncrete Jungle, Turntables-on-the-Hudson, Afrokinetic and Organic Grooves. On the road he has guested at Vienna's Dub Club,DC's 18th St Lounge, San Fransisco's Dub Mission and at Los Angeles party staples Afro Funke’, Chocolate Bar, Root Down, Sunset Junction, Do Over, and Firecracker. He and the Redbud crew also host the long running DubTempo party in NY.

Naturally gifted with a keen observation of everyday life, Paul Torres new high low brow contemporary rococo style takes aim at the cultural, social religious and sensory flavors and underpinnings of Americana and society. He aims at a wry form of magic realism. Paul’s work is delicious and dripping, and wondrous in its treatment of form and flesh. It is at once an eyes wide open exploration of our violent nature and yet is imbued with forgiving earnestness. His work employs old master styles with undertones of modern influences, using oil, mixed media, acrylic, anddry and wet inks on canvas and panel. Born in Chile and immigrating to the United States as a teenager, Paul was heavily influenced by Westerns and American horror flicks. He attended Otis Parsons and is an Art Center graduate.

There For Tomorrow on tour beginning Friday
One would think that after wrapping up a hefty Summer-long trek on the full Vans Warped Tour, Central Florida's favorite sons, THERE FOR TOMORROW would just want to return home and decompress for a while. Being the road warriors that they are however, they're getting back out on the road again, this time with Hit The Lights, Sparks the Rescue, and more (tour dates below).
With glowing reviews of their debut album A Little Faster flowing out like water from a faucet, these four strapping lads have been building a strong and stable foundation as career artists.

Farm Aid to air on DirecTV
DIRECTV, the nation’s No.1 satellite television provider, announced today that, for the second year in a row, it will exclusively broadcast Farm Aid’s October 4th annual benefit concert live and in HD on The 101 Network beginning at 5:00pm ET. Additionally, DIRECTV has pledged to match all DIRECTV customer donations up to $50,000 made between September 1st and October 31st, 2009 to support Farm Aid’s mission to keep family farmers on the land, growing healthy food for all.
Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews headline the event at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Mo., along with recently-announced acts including Jason Mraz, Wilco, Jamey Johnson and Phosphorescent, plus other acts to be announced.
The concert event, will celebrate music, family farmers and good food, and will again feature HOMEGROWN concessions: family-farm identified, local and organic foods. Farm Aid is a nonprofit organization that has raised nearly $36 million to promote a strong and resilient family farm system of agriculture.
“We are thrilled to bring the live Farm Aid experience into homes across the country, giving millions of people a chance to enjoy this unique mix of incredible music with inspiring stories of innovative family farmers,” said Carolyn Mugar, Farm Aid’s executive director. “The generosity of all of the musicians who donate their performances on behalf of family farmers is an inspiration to the many viewers at home who also want to show their support. Farm Aid is grateful that DIRECTV will match its subscribers’ gifts up to $50,000.”

Bad Lieutenant to release debut album in North America
Bad Lieutenant, the project formed in 2007 by New Order's Bernard Sumner (guitar, vocals) and Phil Cunningham (guitar), along with Jake Evans (guitar, vocals), will see the long-awaited North American release of their debut album, Never Cry Another Tear, on October 6 on their own Triple Echo Records imprint. Initially and for a one week period, the album will be available as a digital download exclusively through Amazon.com; subsequently, for one month beginning October 13, the full, physical CD can be purchased only at Amazon.com. On November 10, Never Cry Another Tear will be distributed to all other retail outlets via a partnership with Original Signal Recordings.
In addition, "Sink or Swim," the first single from Never Cry Another Tear, is now available as a free download for a limited amount of time on Bad Lieutenant's website. "Sink or Swim," along with the new track "Dynamo," will be released as a single on September 28 via digital retailers.
Working with his management and booking agency, Sumner opted to release Never Cry Another Tear through an innovative do-it-yourself system for the digital world. The essence of the new album is crisp, streamlined 21st century guitar music, underscored by keyboards and occasional melodica, and the distinct vocals and guitar work of Evans.
"This album is very important to me," says Sumner. "We've worked hard on it and I'm proud of it. It's also important because it gives people the chance to hear a gifted new singer and guitar player who I think is really talented."
Together, the band has spent over a year writing, recording and mixing the album in the U.K. which also features bassist Alex James (Blur) and drummer Stephen Morris (New Order and Joy Division) on several of the tracks. Bad Lieutenant, which plans to tour to support the new album, will include Morris on drums and Tom Chapman on bass. New Order, born from the ashes of the near-mythic English band Joy Division, was one of the most innovative and critically-acclaimed bands of the 1980s, embracing the electronic textures and dance rhythms of the underground club culture while maintaining a mysterious and distant image. The group's pioneering fusion of modern aesthetics and dance music successfully bridged the gap between the two worlds, creating a distinctively thoughtful and oblique brand of pop.
Between 1981 and 2005, New Order released eight studio albums, sold millions of albums worldwide and amassed Gold and Platinum awards. In addition, the band's single "Blue Monday" bears the distinction of being the biggest-selling 12-inch of all time, having sold in excess of 3-million copies.

Jason Lytle on NPR Thursday and on the road in October
A captivating live performance by singer/songwriter Jason Lytle will be featured on NPR's popular online music program All Songs Considered on September 3. Lytle, acclaimed for his work with previous band Grandaddy, has been touring in support of his remarkable new solo album "Yours Truly, the Commuter," a collection of cinematic like ruminations on isolation and resilience that Spin described as "a textured homage to the lush and laid-back West Coast dream life of his youth" and the BBC called "an adventurous and engaging record that gives more on every listen."

Enjoy the Ride (“Want To”/“Settlin’”/“Stay”) quickly followed in ’06 and their third studio album Love On The Inside (“It Happens”/“Love”/“All I Want To Do”/“Already Gone”) in July ’08, which skyrocketed them to superstardom, drawing fans from all genres and critics abroad. Sugarland is credited with co-writing all tracks from all three albums and co-producing the last two. As a thank you to their loyal fans, in Aug. ’09 the duo released Live On The Inside, a CD/DVD set of live tracks, covers and footage from their tour.
They’ve performed in six European countries and are now headlining a U.S. tour that runs thru the fall. They’ve received trophies from the Grammy’s, American Music Awards, Academy of Country Music, CMT Music Awards and the Country Music Association. Nettles was recently chosen to perform for the Obama Presidential celebration, as well as the duo for Oprah. In August, ABC aired an hour-long network special featuring the duo in their most beloved setting...on stage.
