COMMUNITY INVITED ON WALK THROUGH ARDEN ROAD AND CALTECH

Pasadena City Councilman Terry Tornek will lead a walk through District 7 on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Meet at 5 p.m. at the Assistant League’s Craft Fair Gift Shop, 820 E. California Blvd. Parking will be available at the shop’s lot and on Hudson Avenue.

The walk will begin at 5:15 p.m. and will highlight scenic Arden Road and the Caltech campus, followed by a raffle and refreshments.

This event is in association with Up and Moving Pasadena, a community effort to support fitness for health.

Live Nation christened the newly renovated, world-famous Hollywood Palladium with a spectacular performance by GRAMMY Award-winner JAY-Z on October 15, 2008. Following that illustrious kickoff, the building has hosted an assortment of today's top artists including: Jonas Brothers, Explosions In The Sky, Kanye West, Rise Against and the first of Nine Inch Nails' farewell shows.

The venue received a total renovation of all interior and exterior areas including a new façade that emulates the building’s original design, expanded concessions, upgraded restrooms and much more. In addition, major upgrades have been made to the stage infrastructure which enable the venue to accommodate larger, modern touring productions. Sound experts have also revamped the acoustic treatments on the inside of the venue, giving music fans the best concert experience possible.

Built expressly to showcase live concerts, some of the biggest names in the history of popular music have played this Hollywood landmark, including The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Police, The Clash, Public Enemy, Metallica, Jane's Addiction, The Pixies, Radiohead, Beastie Boys, No Doubt and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Monty Are I to tour in support of new album

Island Records Action rock group Monty Are I returns to the road this fall on one of their biggest cross-country tours, a 7-week trip in support of their brand new second album BREAK THROUGH THE SILENCE, released September 22nd. The 34-city tour, co-starring Ohio’s Hawthorne Heights, opens November 2nd at the Grog Shop in Cleveland, and wraps up December 20th at Southgate House in Newport, Kentucky.

The tour will be preceded by the official album release show for BREAK THROUGH THE SILENCE on October 9th at Monty Are I’s favorite hometown venue, Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel At The Strand in Providence, Rhode Island. (Please see tour dates below.)

Three-years after the release of their debut album Wall Of People in August 2006, Monty Are I has broken through the silence with BREAK THROUGH THE SILENCE. Metallica live tracks now available for download

Launched in March 2004, www.livemetallica.com has enabled fans to purchase and download full live sets of Metallica’s concerts, often within hours of the final encore. After more than 300,000 downloads (and no two set lists the same since the site’s launch more than five years ago), the fans began to clamor for the ability to purchase single tracks from the live sets and Metallica have now obliged.

Single tracks from each and every live show that Metallica have recorded since the website launched with a Phoenix show on March 2nd, 2004, are now available for digital download at www.livemetallica.com for $.99 per track. Full shows can still be downloaded for $9.95, while a high-quality FLAC version of the entire set can be purchased for $12.95. Most shows will be available with hours after they end. Fans can also visit the “Vault” section of the website for free downloads of selected shows prior to 2004.

“This is the next logical step in a process that began back in 1991 when we first implemented the “Taper Section” at our shows, where our fans were encouraged to bring in their own gear to record the show, and then take home their very own ‘bootleg’ of the concert they had just seen,” says Metallica’s Lars Ulrich. “This technology will enable our fans to get the best possible recording of the show, without having to hold a microphone in the air for the entire night!”

Metallica have just launched the second leg of their sold-out World Magnetic Tour in support of their platinum-selling tenth studio album, Death Magnetic, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart in September 2008 and won two 2009 Grammy Awards. Of the first leg, the Los Angeles Times raved that the two-hour set “unleashed the powerful exchange of energies that defines Metallica’s purpose and its appeal,” while the New York Post noted that “James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich destroyed any notion that their old bones are ready for the museum by sticking to the three V's of metal music: volume, velocity, and virtuosity.”

Profiles in History to auction Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley items

Profiles in History, the world's leading auctioneer of Hollywood memorabilia has added several fantastic items to their upcoming $5,000,000 auction, taking place October 8-9, 2009. Among them are 11 lots of original stage-worn performance costumes from the early period of Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 brothers' career with Motown Records. (*Costumes range from $3,000-$50,000). Also available is a 1976 yearbook signed by Michael to a fellow classmate at Cal Prep School ($*2,000-$3,000). Because there were only 90 students in this exclusive school, very few of these yearbooks are thought to still exist.

These items complement Profiles in History's extraordinary Michael Jackson Collection, which includes the iconic illuminating white glove adorned with crystals from his "Suit of Lights" that Jackson wore on stage during The Jackson's Victory Tour (*$60,000-$80,000).

Profiles in History will also present several key Elvis Presley items, including his personal Martin D-28 guitar, used on stage in his final Las Vegas performances (*$60,000-$80,000). MICHAEL JACKSON COSTUMES
The eleven lots represent a rare selection of original stage-worn performance costumes from the early period of Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 brothers' careers with Motown Records. The Jackson 5 burst onto the scene in December of 1969 and took America by storm, becoming the first act in recording history to have their first four major label singles reach the top of the charts. Within a year of their debut, the Jackson 5 was among the biggest names in popular music, fueled by the soulful, emotional expression of an 11 year old Michael Jackson.

The Jackson 5 had a distinctive look created by designer Boyd Clopton. The costumes were bold, bright, animated and striking - like The Jackson 5 themselves. The Jackson 5 also had a number of iconic costumes created by International Costume Company beginning in 1972. Many of the costume pieces were intermixed and overlapped from one performance to another so they didn't always wear the same sets together to keep a fresh look, as illustrated by these reference photos. The costumes were worn for promotion, photo shoots and live stage performances.

These special, truly one-of-a-kind costumes defined the early explosive and innocent career of Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5. Acquired from the private collection of Rick Pikrone's Studio Wardrobe Department, a Hollywood vintage clothing and memorabilia boutique who has supplied clothes for hundreds of movies, television shows and celebrities over the years. Each lot comes with a signed letter of authenticity by Rick Pikrone.

Original Cal Prep School 1976 yearbook signed by Michael Jackson
This is a Cal Prep School yearbook for 1976. It comprises approximately 68 pages and is inscribed and signed by Jackson in black ink at the lower right corner of the front cover, "To a really nice girl. Love, Michael Jackson". This small, exclusive school had only 90 students in the entire school and, of this scarce yearbook publication, very few have survived. Michael is pictured in the class pictures section. This is the only known yearbook signed by Michael Jackson. An incredible piece of early Jackson memorabilia. Includes a LOA from the yearbook's owner and classmate who had Michael sign it in 1976.

Elvis Presley's personal Martin D-28 guitar stage-used in his final Las Vegas performance
This Martin D-28 model guitar (serial number 361827), was used by Elvis in his last Las Vegas stage performances at the Las Vegas Hilton from December 2-12, 1976. In January, 1977 Elvis presented this Model D-28 guitar to his bodyguard, Sam Thompson. The guitar features a blonde wood finish and exhibits some plastic residue on the back of the guitar body resulting from, what Elvis relayed to Thompson, a portion of the belt on his stage jumpsuit melting from the hot stage lights.

Following Elvis' death, Thompson sold the guitar in 1978 to The National Enquirer to fund his college education. The National Enquirer presented "The Elvis Guitar" to Cheryl Schmerr who won a national contest of over 60,000 entries in a well-publicized event hosted by the tabloid.

The guitar, with original case, is accompanied by a notarized letter signed by Sam Thompson, along with a notarized copy of a letter from Elvis' father, Vernon E. Presley, dated January 4, 1978, attesting that his son gave Thompson the Martin D-28 the previous year while at Graceland. Also comes with a color photograph of Elvis performing on stage with this guitar.

Without question, one of the most significant guitars to ever reach the market and accompanied with exceptional provenance.

Karate Gi worn and owned by Elvis Presley, used as the model for the McCormick Distillery whiskey decanter
Original karate gi personally owned by Elvis Presley, in white with red trim and adorned with many embroidered patches, including the chest insignia "TCB" ("Taking Care of Business") with motto "Faith - Spirit - Discipline". The gi includes Elvis' seventh degree black belt, which is embroidered "Elvis Presley". Vernon Presley and Colonel Parker gave this gi to McCormick Distilleries to produce a decanter in Elvis' likeness, as part of a series of celebrity decanters. In 1982, McCormick donated the gi to the Jim Reeves Museum in Nashville, TN where it was displayed until sold in 1996.

Comes with copies of several letters of provenance tracing the history of the garment and its use by McCormick, as well as a certificate of authenticity from Jimmy Velvet.Original Elvis Presley gold lightning bolt "TCB" necklace given by Elvis to his karate training partner Wayne Carman

The "TCB" pendant (Elvis' creed, "Taking Care of Business") features a lightning bolt in gold with attached gold rope chain. Elvis gave this necklace to his friend and Karate training partner, Wayne Carman. In the accompanying LOA, Carman states the necklace was given to him by Elvis in the early 1970s during one of their Karate workouts.

Carman continues, "Elvis was a Tiger and I was a Lion in the martial Arts. Initially, Elvis wanted to give me his Lion Claw necklace, because I had admired it one night during a class. I refused his generosity at the time and told him that his friendship was gift enough.The next time I saw him he gave me my T.C.B. necklace. As he gave it to me, he said, 'Wayne, this is an act of friendship, so you can't refuse it!'

Carman states he later had the necklace enhanced with diamonds. Also includes a signed hardbound copy of Carman's book, Elvis's Karate Legacy: The Untold Story of Elvis Presley's Faith, Spirit, and Discipline, with lengthy inscription discussing Elvis giving him this necklace.

Hallenbeck's is an well known venue for acoustic Los Angeles Songwriters and performers - they have a small stage with a great sound system, great food and drinks, it is family friendly too, with free parking on the street.

Tracy Newman and the Reinforcements
From 1989 to 2004 Tracy Newman was a television writer and producer. She had a partner, Jonathan Stark. Their first staff writing job was on the 10th season of "Cheers." After that they were on staff at "Bob" (starring Bob Newhart,), "The Nanny," "Hiller and Diller" (Richard Lewis and Kevin Nealon,) "Ellen" (Ellen Degeneres,) and "The Drew Carey Show." In 1997, they won the Emmy for co-writing the ground-breaking "coming out" episode of Ellen. In 2001, they created the ABC comedy, "According to Jim," starring Jim Belushi. The show recently completed it's 8th and final season of production.

Tracy left the Belushi show during the third season to return to songwriting and performing, which is what she had been doing before her TV career.

She says, "I found it easier to make a living in television. In my years as a songwriter I had one significant placement: In 1985, Mel Tillis and Nancy Sinatra did an album together. The single from it was a song I wrote called, 'I Would Fly'. I bet to this date I've made a whopping $400 on that recording."

This CD, Tracy's first -- "A Place in Sun", features Tracy and singers Gene Lippmann and Lorie Doswell, otherwise called "The Reinforcements." Gene also plays guitar on the CD. The three of them met in Harriet Schocks' songwriting class. Tracy started singing in coffee houses and clubs around town, and Lorie and Gene would show up and sit in front and harmonize with her. Soon Tracy invited them to join her on stage, and they've worked together off and on, for about two years.

Chase Long Beach to tour in support of new album

Chase Long Beach will be launching a U.S. tour this fall, beginning with a hometown performance at the Long Beach Marathon in Long Beach, CA on Sunday, October 11.

Touring in support of its most recent release, Gravity Is What You Make It, the band is the first west coast ska-punk band signed to indie label giant Victory Records in over a decade. The album has been getting raves from tastemakers such as the UK’s Rock Sound who claims, “Amidst a sea of palm trees and beach shorts, SoCal’s Chase Long Beach are here to cheer us all up, injecting their hi-res, high energy ska punk sounds right into the heart of the deepest, darkest discontent.”

The band’s latest video for “We’ve Got Pockets Like It’s Nobody’s Business” was directed by KROQ DJ Kurt St. Thomas, who also helmed Brand New's video for “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows.”

Since 2002, the seven men and women of Chase Long Beach have been making a name for themselves with musical originality and creating a sound they can be proud of. Working hard from their home turf of Southern California and reaching out to live audiences around the world, the result has been a musical phenomenon and energetic live performance that speaks to their wide audience and provides the answer to the next wave of ska-punk sound.

In their six years together, Chase Long Beach has released two EPs: Attack of the Fuzzy Things, (2004) and Chase Long Beach Hosts a Molotov Cocktail Party (2006), closely followed by their excellent full-length debut, LEBEC (2007), produced by Reel Big Fish front man Aaron Barrett. Barrett also makes as a guest appearance on Gravity Is What You Make It, as does Catch 22’s Kevin Gunther.

The members of Chase Long Beach pride themselves on their do-it-yourself work ethic and are entirely comfortable on all stages whether performing in youth centers, dive bars and national venues. The band has toured numerous times over North America and Europe, in excess of 200 dates a year.

John Beasley, the onetime keyboardist for Freddie Hubbard and Miles Davis, reflects a variety of generational influences, incorporating the emphatic chordal clusters of Herbie Hancock, the rhythmic quirkiness of Monk and the lush intelligence of Art Tatum into a highly refined personal voice. – Los Angeles Times

In 1982 Victor Bailey joined the jazz supergroup Weather Report, and, along with drummer Omar Hakim, formed one of jazz fusion’s ultimate rhythm sections. Since then, he has played on over a thousand different records, by artists as varied as Sonny Rollins, Michael Brecker, LL Cool J, Mary J Blige, and Madonna.

Terri Lyne Carrington has toured for 20 years with luminaries like Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Al Jarreau, Stan Getz, Cassandra Wilson, and Clark Terry. Carrington is a drummer, composer, and producer who has earned a Grammy nomination and has produced Dianne Reeves Grammy-nominated CD “That Day."

Nicholas Payton has honed his craft working with such jazz legends as Doc Cheatham (on their Grammy Award-winning 1997 eponymous duo), Hank Jones, Elvin Jones, and Ray Brown. Payton has nine recordings and proves his title as a “young lion of jazz” with his latest recording, “Into the Blue.”
