Sims to release album
Sims, a Minnesota native and member of Minneapolis rap collective Doomtree (P.O.S., Dessa, Lazerbeak, Paper Tiger, Cecil Otter, and Mike Mictlan), is set to drop his second full length album Bad Time Zoo on February 15, 2011.
The music on Bad Time Zoo speaks for itself, but it you need additional motivation to go out and purchase a physical copy of the album check out the video.

Biffy Clyro to tour
Breakthrough band Biffy Clyro has been nominated for three UK music awards. The Scottish trio was nominated for the Brit Award for Best British Group, alongside The xx, Gorillaz, Mumford & Sons and Take That. Biffy also received nods from the Shockwave NME Awards for Best Live Band and Best British Group, alongside Muse, Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Foals.
These nominations add to Biffy's already lengthy list of accolades. Charlie Chaplin celebration Friday and Saturday in Newhall
The William S. Hart Museum is celebrating the 75th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times. On Saturday, February 5, Chaplin’s early Keystone Comedies will screen all day. Staff from the Natural History Museum and the Hart Museum will display objects including the camera with which Mack Sennett filmed the comedies, and a Keystone Kop’s billy club and helmet. Later, there is a special Chaplin dinner and screening in Hart Hall, along with a one-time display of movie posters, memorabilia, and original props from the film — donated by Chaplin himself in the late 1930s — including his striped overalls, the oil can, and wrenches from the film’s famous factory scene. It is the first time these Modern Times artifacts have been on display together. On hand will be movie critic Leonard Maltin and actress Tippi Hedren (who appeared in Chaplin’s last film, A Countess from Hong Kong).
The night prior, Friday, February 4, features an evening screening of the 1992 feature film Chaplin, starring Robert Downey, Jr. Jim Elyea, co-owner of the prop house History for Hire, will display props from the film his company provided, and discuss behind the scenes making of the film.
ChaplinFest is a collaboration between the Santa Clarita Valley Historical Society, William S. Hart Park and Museum, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks & Recreation.

Silent film star William S. Hart purchased a ranch house and surrounding property in Newhall, north of Los Angeles, in 1921. He built a 22-room mansion and filled it with Western art, Native American artifacts, and early Hollywood memorabilia. Hart bequeathed the 230-acre estate to Los Angeles County for the enjoyment of the public at no charge. Tours and programs such as silent movie screenings take place frequently at the Hart Museum. Among the Hart Park’s permanent residents is an assortment of animals, including a small herd of bison, a gift from the Walt Disney Studios in 1962. Today, the property is jointly administered by two Los Angeles County agencies. The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation is responsible for the grounds, animals, and buildings, while the care and interpretation of the Hart home and its artifacts is administered by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Eastern Conference Champions to release new album
Eastern Conference Champions are returning with their first album of new material in four years. Speak-ahh will be released on April 26th on RockHampton Records.
The trio, which consists of Josh Ostrander, Greg Lyons and Melissa Dougherty, has kept quite busy since the release of their debut album (Ameritown) in 2007, releasing two critically acclaimed EP’s (Santa Fe & Akustiks).
Lead singer Josh Ostrander explains why it took four years to finish their second album: “We knew this was going be a very important record for us when we started demoing and collecting songs. Every record and EP we released up until this point was truly a stepping-stone to this record. We wanted Speak-ahh to hit on every level. For the most part the band has adapted itself to getting things on their first or second takes whilst recording. I cant for the life of me tell you why this is our darkest record to date, it's not something we planned, we didn't even realize it until we looked at what we had finished.”
Recorded in downtown Los Angeles, The ten-track album is a departure from the sound of their debut album.
“After we recorded Ameritown with Owen Morris, we had a hell of a time pulling off some of the songs live, it just got away from us in the studio,” Josh reflected. “Since we began recording on our own, we always go into recording a song with a ‘are we gonna be able to pull this off live’ mentality. We never put two guitars down when one will do the job. We prefer the bones of it to an orchestra. We love the rawness.”
Eastern Conference Champions made waves last year when they were tapped to contribute an exclusive song “for the third installment of The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The unsigned act was chosen from more than 400 bands competing for the coveted soundtrack slot, and the resulting song, "A Million Miles An Hour," received rave reviews and raised the band’s profile considerably.
“Twilight was ridiculously good for us,” Josh commented. “If anything it showed a million kids out there that you don't need a label or even proper representation to get a foot in the door. We had two songs in the running for the movie, but they just weren't right. The band was taking me to Vegas for my birthday when we got the call that wanted something else. It was the night before we were leaving, nobody wanted to go in, but we did, we powered through, wrote, recorded, and mixed the song in about six hours, then left for Vegas. We would find out a week later that we got it.”
Eastern Conference Champions are planning to tour around the release of Speak-ahh. Dates will be announced shortly.

Fleet Foxes at the Troubadour May 7 in support of new album
On May 3rd Fleet Foxes will release Helplessness Blues (Sub Pop/Bella Union), the much-anticipated follow up to their 2008 self-titled debut. The release of the twelve-track album will coincide with the band’s first North American tour dates since August 2009.

WHY: GRAMMY Camp, GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles, and GRAMMY Signature Schools are programs for U.S. high school students and high school music programs. They are part of the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY in the Schools offerings and are supported in part by Best Buy, Converse, Ford Motor Company Fund, and the Hot Topic Foundation.
GRAMMY Camp is a signature music industry camp that will be held in both Los Angeles (July 9 – 18) and New York (Aug. 2 – 8) in summer 2011. GRAMMY Camp offers an interactive residential summer music experience focusing on all aspects of commercial music, with instruction by artists and industry professionals. GRAMMY Camp L.A. will be held at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and other professional venues throughout Los Angeles. GRAMMY Camp N.Y. will be held at Rubber Tracks, Converse's new state-of-the-art recording facility in Brooklyn, N.Y. and will culminate in a launch party at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.

Just as the GRAMMY Award recognizes excellence in recording, the GRAMMY Signature Schools program recognizes top public high schools across the country for outstanding commitment to their music education programs. Each of the GRAMMY Signature Schools will receive a custom award and a monetary grant to benefit its music program.

WHY: GRAMMY Camp, GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles, and GRAMMY Signature Schools are programs for U.S. high school students and high school music programs. They are part of the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY in the Schools offerings and are supported in part by Best Buy, Converse, Ford Motor Company Fund, and the Hot Topic Foundation.
GRAMMY Camp is a signature music industry camp that will be held in both Los Angeles (July 9 – 18) and New York (Aug. 2 – 8) in summer 2011. GRAMMY Camp offers an interactive residential summer music experience focusing on all aspects of commercial music, with instruction by artists and industry professionals. GRAMMY Camp L.A. will be held at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and other professional venues throughout Los Angeles. GRAMMY Camp N.Y. will be held at Rubber Tracks, Converse's new state-of-the-art recording facility in Brooklyn, N.Y. and will culminate in a launch party at the Best Buy Theater in Times Square.
High school singers and instrumentalists can audition for the GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles. Selectees will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the host city for the Annual GRAMMY Awards, and students will participate in high-profile GRAMMY Week performances and recording sessions and will attend the Annual GRAMMY Awards telecast.
Just as the GRAMMY Award recognizes excellence in recording, the GRAMMY Signature Schools program recognizes top public high schools across the country for outstanding commitment to their music education programs. Each of the GRAMMY Signature Schools will receive a custom award and a monetary grant to benefit its music program.
Applications/Deadlines:
The 2011 GRAMMY Camp application deadline is March 31, 2011. Financial assistance is available to qualified applicants. The deadline for the 2012 GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles and GRAMMY Signature Schools programs is Oct. 22, 2011. Applications for all programs are available at www.grammyintheschools.com.
Grammy Awards Pre-Telecast Ceremony Feb. 13
The 53rd Annual GRAMMY® Awards Pre-Telecast Ceremony will take place on Sunday, Feb. 13 from 1 – 4 p.m. PT at the Los Angeles Convention Center and will be streamed live internationally on www.grammy.com/live and www.youtube.com/thegrammys beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
Well-attended by nominees and industry VIPs, the star-studded ceremony with be co-hosted by current GRAMMY nominees Bobby McFerrin and Esperanza Spalding, and will feature performances by nominees including Afro-Colombian hip hop trio ChocQuibTown, blues musician Buddy Guy, singer/songwriter Cyndi Lauper, American roots interpreter Maria Muldaur, contemporary blues artist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, trombone and trumpet player Trombone Shorty, legendary gospel singer Mavis Staples, jazz musician Kirk Whalum, and R&B singer/songwriter Betty Wright.
Presenting the first GRAMMY Awards of the night in 98 categories will be current nominees Laurie Anderson, Sara Bareilles, BT, Kathy Griffin, and Wayne Wallace.
The live stream of the Pre-Telecast will remain on GRAMMY.com as video on demand for 30 days following the event.
Following the Pre-Telecast Ceremony, the 53rd Annual GRAMMY Awards will be broadcast live on the CBS Television Network from 8 – 11:30 p.m ET/PT.

Attention, all you blues guitar lovers:
This coming Saturday I will be performing an all-acoustic blues program at Boulevard Music, with bassist Mike Barry: Delta slide, deep Texas Blues, finger picking rags and boogies, and several original songs and instrumentals. The concert will be recorded for release on the "Live at Boulevard Music" series.
In a review of our 2009 concert at Boulevard Music, Mark C. Tucker, blues critic of the Folk & Acoustic Music Exchange (FAME.com), called our previous live release, "Somebody Got To Do It!", the "blues CD of the decade". He went on to comment, "I've never seen a guy play that well and sustain it impeccably for an entire concert."
That sets a high standard for this Saturday, and if you attend I hope that your expectations will be exceeded. I hope to see you there.
