NAMM to honor Brian Wilson Jan. 18
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) will honor one of the world’s most famous singer-songwriters and producers, Brian Wilson, for his musical achievements and support of music education, with its most prestigious “Music for Life” award.
The presentation will be made by NAMM president and CEO Joe Lamond at Noon on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Anaheim Convention Center, Hall E, as a part of NAMM’s Media Preview Day. The day is designed to showcase the newest and most innovative music instruments and products at the show and happens one day before The NAMM show officially opens. The NAMM Show is the largest music instruments and products trade show in North America.
The “Music for Life” award is NAMM’s highest honor and was created to recognize individuals and organizations who demonstrate support for NAMM’s primary causes of promoting music education and creating more active music-makers. Past recipients have ranged from musicians to Congressmen, CEOs and beyond, including Quincy Jones, Bob McGrath and Yoko Ono.
“Brian Wilson’s music shaped American popular music and had a lasting impact on the music products industry,” said Joe Lamond, president and CEO, NAMM. “In addition, Brian Wilson believes in and has devoted his efforts to supporting music education—a cause that our industry holds dear. With 2012 marking the 50th anniversary of The Beach Boys, NAMM felt this was the most appropriate time to honor Mr. Wilson for his life’s work.”
The Grammy winner and MusicCares’ 2004 Person of the Year, Brian Wilson has a long record of supporting music education. Some highlights include work to benefit The Prince’s Trust Charity, which offers music classes to youth with learning difficulties and/or disabilities; performances for The “Amplify Tomorrow” tour as part of the Blue for Save the Music initiative, which raised funds and awareness to support music education programs in U.S public schools; participation in two Bridge School Benefit concerts; and Wilson has also been honored with the USC Thornton School of Music Legacy Award and possesses an honorary doctorate from Northeastern University.
Known for his unrivaled solo career and former role as singer, songwriter and producer for the super group, The Beach Boys, Brian Wilson is one of the most iconic and influential music legends of our time. He is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, a Kennedy Center honoree and recipient of multiple Gold and Platinum records. On November 1, Capitol/EMI released The SMiLE Sessions, containing the Beach Boys’ 1966-67 sessions. For more information, visit www.BrianWilson.com.

Chemical Brothers movie to be released
STARRING THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS
A Film by Adam Smith
On January 26th 2012, 20 cinemas across 20 cities worldwide will host an exclusive advance screening offering fans the first chance to see Don't Think.
For an exclusive preview of the cinema trailer along with a full list of cinemas with links to buy tickets visit:

You blink awake and find yourself halfway up the side of a Japanese mountain. It’s night time, right at the sticky middle point of summer. You’re in an opening in a darkened wood surrounded by – say – 50,000 other revelers, each of them frenzied; delirious from an all-encompassing psychedelia that seems to be emanating from a stage somewhere in the near distance. Above you, lights swoop and strafe across armies of marching toy robots and galloping deconstructed horses; paint balls explode in front of borderline psychotic clowns. You’re in the thick of it, consumed by the spectacle, absorbed into the crowd, surrendering to the noise and the visuals. Stunned by the jaw-dropping intensity of what you’re witnessing, just one thought flashes through your febrile mind.
Don’t Think. Just let it flow.
Filmed with 20 cameras at a headline show at Japan’s very own Glastonbury - Fujirock Festival - Don't Think is the first time the full Chemical Brothers’ live experience has been captured on film. Directed by long-term visuals collaborator Adam Smith this full-length concert movie places cameras in the centre of the stage as well as at the very heart of the crowd to perfectly capture a fan's eye view of the heightened emotional reactions of the audience seeing the band at their very best.
During the film, Smith takes advantage of one of the most unique festival settings in the world when he follows selected audience members away from the stage and out into the natural environment. Then, by adding avant-garde magic realist moments where trippy visuals leave the screens and invade the open spaces of the festival, Don't Think undergoes a transformation from concert film to fully immersive document of one of the most mind-bendingly psychedelic live shows ever seen. With an extensive global cinema run, the film offers audiences a powerful alternative to the reduced circumstances of watching gig footage on You Tube clips and mobile phone screens.
Shot on location on Sunday July 31st 2011, Don’t Think is the first concert film to feature glorious Dolby 7:1, surround sound, mixed for the big screen by the band themselves. It is due to be shown on more than 500 screens in over 20 territories from February 1st, 2012 (February 3rd U.K). The film has been produced by Marcus Lyall and Lee Groombridge for Ridley Scott’s production company RSA Films in association with ML Studio.

About Mikal Cronin
Conceived and recorded as a sort of therapy to help cope with adjusting to post-college life, an ensuing break-up and geographic isolation Mikal Cronin steps momentarily away from the rhythm section of Orange County surf-punk bashers, The Moonhearts with his debut solo album.
Fans can take heart, this isn’t a ‘vanity project’ or half-baked endeavour – Mikal’s solo debut is fully realized, cohesive and beautiful. With themes that are personal as they are universal; questioning the future, accepting the past and living in the moment.
Taking influences such as the late sixties Del Shannon and The Everly Brothers and filtering them through his own mutant Californian fuzz, Mikal deftly explores his singer-songwriter side that at moments feel like a punk Harry Nilsson or Curt Boettcher - balancing sweet melodies and chords with chunky, psychedelic guitar freakouts. Don’t let the opening Beach Boys harmonies of ‘It’s Alright?’ fool you into thinking this record can be easily pinned down.
With long time friend and collaborator, Ty Segall producing, Eric Bauer (Ty Segall, Royal Baths) running the tape machine and guest like John Dwyer of Thee Oh Sees, you can be sure you’re in for something special. Once those guitars kick in, and you hit the first transcendent chorus, you’ll be hooked and anxiously awaiting what comes next.
