With more than 100 years of accumulated rock ‘n’ roll history as a foundation, Candy Golde is the Midwestern musical collaboration of Nicholas Tremulis, Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) John Stiratt (Wilco) and Rick Rizzo (Eleventh Dream Day). The distinctive blend of blues groove, power pop, Americana and alternative shows itself in the self-titled 5-song Candy Golde EP, to be released by Ten O Nine Records on May 11.
Mastered by Ivan Julian of Richard Hell and the Voidoids, CANDY GOLDE contains four originals including the single “Trouble’s Coming Down” and a cover of Paul Simon’s “Boy in the Bubble,” and will be available as limited edition 10” vinyl and digital download. From the opening track,“The Hold Steady,” which invokes a little INXS and a lot of crunchy, synthy ‘60s rock, to the slower, somber sway of “Why and Where,” the sense of musical authenticity is evident, as is the empowered songwriting that comes with age, experience and an unencumbered recording environment.
Tremulis is the seasoned troubadour, his lyrics bursting with stories of the streets and his vocals spewing soul. Tremulis (with the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra) has shared the stage and studio with Keith Richards, Billy Corgan, Marianne Faithful, Mavis Staples, Ronnie Spector, Los Lobos, The Neville Brothers, Steve Earle, Bonnie Raitt, Ian Hunter, David Johansen and long-time cohort Alejandro Escovedo.
Carlos’ unmistakable robust, solid drumming provides the backbone of Candy Golde. In addition to almost forty years with Cheap Trick, he is involved with a myriad of projects from marching bands to the recent Tinted Windows. He also guested at the smash Waltz charity series put on by Tremulis, backing up Jeff Tweedy and Gary Louris (Jayhawks).
Stirratt’s dexterous bass muscle was developed in fifteen years with Wilco. He is the only founding member, alongside Jeff Tweedy, to contribute to all the band’s releases which have garnered 6 Grammy nominations and a Best Alternative win for A GHOST IS BORN in 2005. Stirratt is also in The Autumn Defense (with fellow native New Orleansian/Wilco member Pat Sansone) and records with his sister Laurie Stirratt.
Rizzo, co-lead singer of Candy Golde, is known for his signature dazzling guitar notes and moves in Eleventh Dream Day. On the strength of its continued fervent underground fanbase and critical acclaim, the band just released its tenth record, and continues to perform live. Rizzo also records with Tara Key for Thrill Jockey Records.
Candy Golde will be debuting live at SXSW at Club de Ville, 11pm on Friday, March 18. The official record release party and performance is April 29 at the Double Door in Chicago.

ASPCA awarded more than $1.6 million from Subaru
The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) today announced that it has been awarded more than $1.6 million in funding from Subaru of America, Inc. as a result of its Share the Love event.
“The overwhelming results of the Share the Love event have solidified for us how much Subaru customers care about their pets,” said Elysia Howard, ASPCA vice president of marketing & licensing. “In 2010 the ASPCA was able to grant nearly $7 million to animal welfare organizations in all 50 states. This funding will enable us to save more animals through our national programs and give even more to shelters and rescue groups across the country in the coming year.”
During the Share the Love event, which ran from November 20, 2010 to January 3, 2011, Subaru pledged to donate $250 for every new Subaru vehicle sold or leased to the customer’s choice of one of the following five charities: the ASPCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Meals On Wheels Association of America, or the Ocean Conservancy.
“In just six short weeks, our new car owners helped us give $5 million as a result of Share the Love,” said Tim Mahoney, senior vice president and CMO, Subaru of America, Inc. “Over the last three years, we’re proud to have donated nearly $15 million to worthy charities, helping to fulfill their missions and expand their reaches.”
As part of the Share the Love event, the ASPCA also worked closely with Subaru dealerships across the country to help them partner with local animal shelters for a host of pet adoption events, food donation drives, holiday pet picture-taking, and pet ID-tagging and micro-chipping fairs. As a result, more than 100 events took place, 1,000 animals were saved and a total of $80,000 was raised for local shelters.
The ASPCA also held a shelter incentive contest during Share the Love, and the following winners were selected to receive a total of $25,000 in grants from the ASPCA, awarded as follows:

I will be selling off a lot of the miscellaneous props and things. We have old doors, windows and all the bits and pieces that have accumulated through the years..
I have sorted through my collection of vintage clothes and collectibles to add to the sale, along with a bunch of old trunks that the clothes were stored in.

The Classical Kaleidoscope Concert series will present its third concert of the season on Wednesday, March 2 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in the Cay Mortenson Auditorium at the Arcadia Public Library. This special program will feature guest author and speaker Leslie Gilbert-Lurie. The Quartet for the End of Time, composed by Olivier Messiaen while he was imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp will be performed by Michele Zukovsy, clarinet; Paul Stein, violin; Masim Velichkin, cello; and Kevin Fitz-Gerald, piano.
The remarkable book “Bending Toward the Sun” by Leslie Gilbert-Lurie is about her mother’s shattering experience while hiding from the Nazis. It is about the profound love between the mother, daughter and granddaughter and the psychological shadow that shaped their lives.
Following the classical concert, special guest author Leslie Gilbert-Lurie will sign her book “Bending Toward the Sun” available for purchase at the time of the event.
You are also cordially invited to meet and speak with the musicians. Coffee, provided courtesy of Starbucks, and light refreshments will be served. Funded by the Arcadia Public Library Foundation, the concert is free and no reservations are necessary. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited, so please come early.

John Njathi children's art project

In School Of The Nations Nairobi, Kenya I Have Been Working As A Art and Craft Teacher For 3 years, But Today I Am An Instructor In its Art Club. Its Starts In After School From 3.30- 4.30pm. Days Are Tuesday , Wednesday ,Thursday and Friday.
I Train The Children Basics In Drawing And Painting And Crafts. They Use Locally Material Available Such As Sand And glue. They learn Modeling Cutting using cardboard And Making Diferent Shapes. In Painting, They Learn To Work on Large Surfaces Like Painting the School Wall And bathroom Walls.
School Of The Nation has Appreciated My Work In Training The Young Future Artists. Its Fun To Work With The Children.

Mad for Hats! Tour and Tea
An in-depth, docent-led tour of the exhibition Mad For Hats! is the perfect prelude to afternoon tea. Studio Tour and Conversation with Millinery Designer Louise Green
A visit to the 9,000 square foot West Los Angeles studio of designer Louise Green, who operates one of the most successful high-end millinery companies in the United States. Louise will share with us the twenty-plus year history of her business and where she finds the inspiration for her beautiful and romantic creations. We will witness the process of making a hat by hand, and we can try on (or purchase) a few ourselves! Two tours are offered, at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. Reservations required; limited availability.

Pasadena Stories 1940-1955: World War II and Its Aftermath
Every year, the Pasadena Public Library chooses one book for our community to read and discuss in public forums. The book selected this year, Mudbound by Hillary Jordan, tells the story of two families, one white and one African-American, in rural Mississippi during and immediately following World War II. In conjunction with OCOS, PMH and Pasadena Senior Center are collaborating on a presentation of community stories from Pasadena residents about their experiences during this same time period. Pasadena Star News editor Larry Wilson will lead a panel adding historical context to these personal family stories. You can participate as an audience member or as a story presenter by filling out a questionnaire. The questionnaire is downloadable on the Museum’s website, or available in hard copy at the Museum and at Pasadena Senior Center.

Dr. Fred Robinson, current Chair of the Music Department, former Chair of the English Department at the University of San Diego, delved into cultural studies when he authored The Man in the Bowler Hat. In his lecture, he will discuss how hats function in the ongoing project of modern life, and why they became items more of costume than dress. A Fine Feather: The Cawston Ostrich Farm, Feathers, and the Millinery Industry in the Early 20th Century
Millinery historian Barbara Troeller leads us on an entertaining historical overview of the Cawston Ostrich Farm in Pasadena and the important role of feathers in woman's fashion from 1870 to 1920. Supported by memorabilia, photos and feathered accessories, the speaker will reveal little known facts (and more than a few secrets) of the feather trade, including the "Feather Fashion Frenzy" and the devastating "Feather Crash" of the Edwardian Era. Guests will be treated to an exciting and dazzling display from Troeller's private collection of antique feathered hats and rare exotic millinery plumage which is guaranteed to delight! A first-of-its-kind monograph, California Light: A Century of Landscapes, by Jean Stern and Molly Siple, offers up a comprehensive look at the plein air paintings created by members of the California Art Club over the past 100 years. Divided into two main sections, the first half of the book addresses the beginnings of “Art in California, 1880-1925: A Perspective” and offers a historical narrative on the inception of painting the California landscape. The second half of the book, “A New Chapter for Plein Air,” picks up the narrative and offers a contemporary account of the club members’ paintings to-date, as well as efforts to educate art enthusiasts about California's rich art heritage.
