Multi-platinum singer-songwriter Jewel has recruited celebrity friends to provide handwritten lyrics of their hits for an auction to benefit Jewel’s Project Clean Water charity. In addition to Jewel’s personal contributions, Carrie Underwood, Brooks & Dunn, Katy Perry and Jason Mraz are just a few of the celebrities who have been confirmed to participate in the auction which takes place December 3, 2008 to December 18 2008, and will be accessible through Jewel’s website at www.jeweljk.com and www.jeweljkauction.com. Handwritten specifically by the artist and/or songwriter who wrote them, the lyrics being auctioned for this worthy cause are each a one-of-a-kind treasure for any fan.
“Project Clean Water has always been my passion along with music. I am so excited to be able to find a way to tie the two together with this auction,” said Jewel. “I am also very blessed to have the support of my musician friends who will help make a stronger impact on the donations from the auction.”
Founded in 1997, Project Clean Water is a non-profit charitable foundation that is working to improve the quality of life for millions of people, by helping to provide clean water on a global scale. Managed by Jewel’s brother, Shane, Project Clean Water organizes teams of scientists and engineers to bring safe, clean drinking water to impoverished communities worldwide: from Mexico to Africa, India to Tibet. To date, Project Clean Water has helped over 30 communities overcome their individual drinking water problems in 13 different countries on 5 different continents. The project is fully funded by Jewel through her ticket sales and donations.
Jewel recently released her first country album and seventh career album, Perfectly Clear, in June 2008 which debuted at #1 on the Billboard country charts. Supporting her career launch into the country music mainstay, Jewel had a busy year in 2008. With numerous visits to country radio stations across the US, Jewel's Top 15 country breakthrough single "Stronger Woman" posted more than 50,000 spins and earned the singer-songwriter a BDS Spin Award.
Jewel also packed in a summer and fall tour with Brad Paisley, a judging seat on NBC’s “Nashville Star” and was married to rodeo superstar Ty Murray in a private beach-side ceremony. Jewel recently announced cross-country tour dates to kick off in January 2009 and she is also participating in the second annual A Kiss for CountrySM philanthropic campaign with Mary Kay Inc., the Official Beauty Sponsor of the 42nd Annual CMA Awards. The campaign aims to raise funds for domestic violence prevention through the sale of specially designed celebrity “kiss cards” on uBid.com from November 11, 2008 to December 12, 2008.
Jewel, hailed by The Times of London as "the most sparkling female singer-songwriter since Joni Mitchell," has sold over 27 million albums worldwide, enjoying career longevity rare among her generation of artists. An acclaimed singer, songwriter, poet, actress and painter, Jewel has explored fresh musical avenues for more than a decade that have taken her from the simplicity of acoustic-driven folk to the embrace of rock, pop, country, blues, jazz and classical influences.
