WHAT: Facing History and Ourselves and The Allstate Foundation will host two Community Conversations entitled “Armenian Golgatha: An Eyewitness Account of Genocide and Survival” with Scholar and best selling author Peter Balakian who will discuss the newly translated book, Armenian Golgotha: A Memoir of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1918, released on April 2nd. This is a dramatic eyewitness account of the first modern genocide and the implications for human rights issues today. The story of Grigoris Balakian, Peter Balakian's great-uncle, is a brilliant witness to what human beings can overcome and endure. Peter Balakian is also well known for his past works, Black Dog of Fate and The Burning Tigris: The Armenian Genocide and America's Response.

Facing History promotes the thoughtful teaching about the Armenian genocide that encourages students and community members to reflect on the moral questions raised by this history about our responsibilities both as individuals and as nations to those beyond our borders.
