DayJams, Rock Music Day Camp for kids 8-15, open house Saturday

DayJams, America’s original and premiere Rock Music Day Camp for young aspiring musicians for the past eleven years, announces its annual Open House on its San Fernando Valley campus, AND deep discounts for attending camp there this year.

The Open House is Saturday, May 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Day Jams San Fernando Valley / Winnetka site, at St. Martin-in-the-Fields School, 7136 Winnetka Avenue, Winnetka, CA 91306.

Open House is an opportunity for young musicians to meet others their own age, and to see them perform on stage with DayJams music teachers. Parents can learn all about the DayJams program.

One of three local camp locations, DayJams camp will hold one session this summer at the San Fernando Valley / Winnetka campus from July 20-24, 2009. What’s unprecedented this year is a deep discount for the San Fernando Valley / Winnetka campus. Through the date of the Open House, this Saturday, DayJams is offering a $100 discount for campers to attend camp at that location only. Students at a number of area schools and music schools are often offered discounts to attend the camp of their choice. The San Fernando Valley / Winnetka camp’s deep discount is a response to the current economic situation facing families.

In addition, Day Jams has 22 other locations throughout the U.S., including two other camp locations in the local area. DayJams Los Angeles location, at American Jewish University in Bel Air, offers two sessions, July 6-10 and July 13-17, 2009. DayJams Pasadena location, at New Horizon School in Pasadena, offers two sessions, July 27-31 and August 3-7.

DayJams accepts young musicians ages 8 to 15, and all skill levels are welcome. Each camper receives individual instruction in their choice of vocals, guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, or horns. Each participant receives individual and group (individual band) instruction, as they write and perform an original song, play in a band of their peers, perform on stage, and record their own music.

DayJams recently partnered with Los Angeles Women in Music (LAWIM), a respected local 501(c)3, to support LAWIM’s “Young Talent Night” program. DayJams is contributing three full scholarships to promising young musicians selected by LAWIM following their performances in monthly “Young Talent Night” showcases.

Los Angeles region DayJams director Joseph John said, “We just want as many kids as possible to be able to enjoy this great program. We are glad we can provide the scholarships and discounts.”
