Bethel Woods to celebrate 40th anniversary of Woodstock

The weekend of August 14-16 will mark the 40th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, one of the most well-known cultural events of the 1960s. Leading the nation in commemorating this cultural milestone will be Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (www.BethelWoodsCenter.org) and The Museum at Bethel Woods, both located in Bethel, NY at the site of the original festival.

To mark the Woodstock anniversary weekend, Bethel Woods Center for the Arts will host two special concerts featuring several of the 1960s most famous musicians.

On Friday, August 14, at 8:00 PM, legendary Woodstock performer Richie Havens will take the stage for a live performance in the Events Gallery at The Museum at Bethel Woods. Havens, who opened the original festival, is one of the most recognized artists of Woodstock. His performance of “Freedom,” a song now considered to be the anthem of a generation, is one of the most iconic moments in music history. Concert tickets cost $50.00 and will go on sale on Friday, May 22 at 10:00AM.

On Saturday, August 15, at 5:00 PM, Bethel Woods presents the Bethel Woods Music Festival starring Heroes of Woodstock Levon Helm Band, Jefferson Starship, Ten Years After, Canned Heat, Big Brother and the Holding Company, Mountain, Tom Constanten and Country Joe McDonald. Tickets for this special and historic concert are now on sale. Concert ticket prices are $69 and $40 Reserved; $19.69 Lawn.

Fans can also visit The Museum at Bethel Woods during the anniversary weekend. The Museum explores the unique experience of the 1969 Woodstock festival, its significance as a culminating event of a transformational decade, and the ongoing legacy of the 1960s and Woodstock. Through personal stories, profiles, immersive multi-media exhibits, engaging programs and educational events, The Museum encourages inter-generational dialogue about important ideas and issues relevant to today.

Bethel Woods also features a season-long celebration of the 40th anniversary of the historic festival with concerts, lectures and museum events that embrace the legacy of the 1960s and Woodstock.
