Mobile's debut met with accolaides

As MOBILE gear up for the August 21 release of their U.S. debut album TOMORROW STARTS TODAY on The Militia Group, the French-Canadian band who are known for merging sweeping soundscapes and progressive dance-punk stylings are already garnering early critical acclaim in America.
In the September 2007 current issue of Alternative Press magazine writer Luke O’Neil hails, “Two seconds into the blazing title track-all propulsive jerky dance beats, dark waves of down stroke guitar and snotty call and response vocals--you’ll find your new summer jam.” Check out more early critical reaction for TOMORROW STARTS TODAY below.
In radio news, the album’s first single “Montreal Calling” is receiving early radio plays at influential stations throughout the U.S. including: KROQ (Los Angeles), CIMX (Detroit), CKEY (Buffalo), WEND (Charlotte), WFNX (Boston), WXDX (Pittsburgh) and KRCL (Denver), to name a few.
The Montreal-based group MOBILE--MAT JOLY (vocals), FRANK WILLIAMSON (guitars), CHRISTIAN “Criq” BRAIS (guitars), PIERRE-MARC HAMELIN (drums), DOMINIC VIOLA (bass)--are currently on the road for a handful of North American shows (see current dates below with more to be announced soon).
Recorded with respected Canadian producer Matt DeMatteo and mixed by the internationally renowned Mark “Spike” Stent (Madonna, Massive Attack, Sting) TOMORROW STARTS TODAY is full of such standout songs album opener "Montreal Calling," “See Right Through Me" and the title track--all of which feature the explosive instrumentation and catchy choruses that have made the band near platinum in their native Canada. Boasting solid depth throughout, the album is packed with more highlights like "Scars," "Dusting Down The Stars," "Lovedrug" and "New York Minute."
Check out some of the early critical reaction for MOBILE:

“’Tomorrow Starts Today’ begins with a quiet type of fuzz--almost shoegaze-ish, but when the hook hits, singer Mat Joly sounds like Ash’s Timothy Wheeler at his most brash and bold. ‘Out Of My Head’ then borders on a darker slant of dance-rock, from which another sharp turn is taken to reach ‘See Right Through Me,’ which is an irrefutable highlight of the album, with crackling percussion driving a wailing array of keys, the music sets the tone for the huge track, but Joly really hits it home. The song, along with the equally bombastic ‘Scars,’ gives a concise summary of why people should take note of this band.”

“Mobile could release only this one album and ride a life of singles if it so chose. This isn't a one-album wonder though, the debut shows lots of promise.”
--Peter Woodburn, REDEFINE MAGAZINE, August 2007

“…sweeping soundscapes and churning guitars that call to mind the Stone Roses, Blur and yes, even occasionally U2.”
--Jim Fischer, THIS WEEK SYNDICATE (Columbus, OH), July 6, 2007

“The album--loaded with classic alt-rock songs--helped MOBILE snag the New Group Of the Year at this year’s Juno’s.”
--Michael Gallucci, CLEVELAND SCENE, July 6, 2007

“The album showcases the group’s unique blend of ‘80’s dance rock with futuristic alternative rock.”
--Jessica Lewis, BUFFALO NEWS, July 16, 2007

“…unique blend of old-school alternative rock mixed with modern sounds.”
--John Benson, YOUNGSTOWN VINDICATOR, Youngstown, OH July 9, 2007

“…retro-influenced hooks and a shoegazer aesthetic, but more rock than pop as their debut release TOMORROW STARTS TODAY proves.”
--Carla Di Fonzo, LANCASTER INTELLIGENCER JOURNAL 7/16/07

“Mobile knows how to craft a good song, and they deliver it with just enough edge to guarantee fans from different spectrums. ...the balls-to-the-wall title track, as well as the punchy, guitar-laden ‘How Can I Be Saved?,’ are two of the best songs...Mobile is definitely a band to keep an eye on--hip, yet with just enough pop sensibility to help them rise above the obscure."
--Mike Farley, BULLZ-EYE, CD Review, July, 2007

“...merges pop melodies with alt-rock.."
--Greg Prato, ALL MUSIC GUIDE, July 2007

“Mobile creates a bouncy alt-pop sound. Mobile has a danceable feel on tracks like ‘Out Of My Head’ and the album opener ‘Montreal Calling. Mobile mixes their dance pop with more piano driven material, such as ‘Dusting Down the Stars’ and ‘See Right Through Me.’ This diversity has helped the band go platinum in Canada and is looking to do the same for them here in the states.”
