Songwriter Sactum in Santa Monica Sept. 23

Songwriter Sanctum

A casual, monthly, acoustic-music series on
Sunday afternoons in Santa Monica!

SEPTEMBER 23rd 2:00pm
Celebrating International Peace Day with music!
We'll be celebrating -- and working toward -- peace with the help of this
month's stellar line-up of song makers. We need peace now just as much as
ever, so putting our focus on it can work to increase awareness and send the
right message out into the universe. Music is the perfect medium for
that! Talk about living in harmony...a couple of our acts specialize in
harmonizing, and we'll be privy to their deliciously good vibrations. Add to
that a singer whose soothingly peaceful purring can tame wild beasts and
a social activist songstress with moxie...and our Peace Day celebration is
sounding sweet! For the cherry on top, we'll be hearing our artist-in-residence
perform -- and it's just one week before his long-awaited CD release
concert, which you won't want to miss.

TIM & TERRY (TVVT)
Tim Tedrow & Terry Vreeland have been making great Folk-Americana music
together for more than 10 years. They blend their voices into sweet, sweet harmonies.
Add to this their skills with multiple instruments and sensitivity to the emotional elements
of a song, and you've got magic! Tim & Terry are very pleased to now be creating
music with the addition of The Reverend Mark on bass and Joey Vreeland on vocals and
bazooki. This has brought layers to the group, a delicious three part harmony, and a
multi-generational twist that enhances their allure even more. TVVT, as they are now
becoming known, are working on a new album, which they hope will be out next year.
Let these well-seasoned modern folkies sweep you up into a harmony-filled
world of peace, love, and happiness.

JILL FREEMAN
Jill Freeman has been a professional singer/songwriter for over 20 years. It's likely her
sultry, jazzy, pop/folk sounds will melt you into a puddle. Her solo album, "Songs About
Sex and Depression," received rave reviews and resulted in placement of the songs in
several motion pictures, including Mr. Wrong starring Ellen DeGeneres. Most recently her
song "Blues on a Sunny Day," co-written with husband Joel and featuring Jill on vocals,
was placed in the soon-to-be-released film The Oranges, starring Hugh Laurie, Leighton
Meester, and Catherine Keener. Jill's seductive voice and songs have also been heard
on T.V. shows such as Raising Hope, Chelsea Lately, and The Tonight Show. She
continues to write and perform with her husband, songwriter/producer Joel Wachbrit.

H2
It all started the night Marcel Marceau died...but we'll get back to that. H2, Tom Hubbard
and Ken Holme, perform in Southern California and along the West Coast. If you draw a
triangle (in the sand, on your cocktail napkin, it matters not) and label one corner The
Smothers Brothers, another corner Simon and Garfunkel, and the third corner Frank
Zappa...somewhere in the middle of that triangle is where H2 belongs. Part jokes and
wit, part deep sincerity, and always ear-pleasing harmonies, you may wonder if they
are a comedy act or a harmony vocal duo. Their answer in unison: "Yes!" The duo have
released one CD and are writing the songs for the next one. H2's first collaboration was
performing "The Sounds of Silence" in tribute to Marcel Marceau ;-)

DEBBIE BERRY
Debbie Berry is a professional stage actress, having toured nationally for many years in
theatre and musical productions. She became interested in helping the Social Change
Movement that is sweeping this country, and started writing songs to bring more
awareness to it. Her tunes cover such cans of worms as union organizers and the
mortgage crisis, to veteran issues and finding true love in the midst of it all. Debbie
brings a light-hearted Western flair to her music, which balances perfectly with the gritty
Americana subject matter. She won 2nd place in Traditional Singing in 2009 at the
Topanga Banjo & Fiddle Contest. As a regular performer at the Autry Museum, Debbie
brings her own twist to American Folk Songs & Western Songs of the Old West.

DALE LaDUKE
Multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter Dale LaDuke plays in bands, has
a solo career, teaches music, and hosts a weekly open-mic. His skills accompanying other
musicians are in demand. As the artist-in residence for Songwriter Sanctum, he performs
alone or with his band at the monthly concerts. Dale's songwriting has been recognized
numerous times, including by the Billboard Song Contest, the Hollywood Music in Media
Awards, Independent Singer/Songwriter Awards, and the Los Angeles Music Awards. His
much anticipated CD release concert is on September 30th! Some of his audience's
favorite songs include "It's About Us," "De Los Angeles," "The Lone Ranger," and "Shine It
All Around." Dale's tunes resonate with people, and often compel them to sing along.

NEW Song Challenge...
A while back I implemented a new "challenge" for each of my musical
guests -- a challenge to get their creativity flowing! As the series name implies,
Songwriter Sanctum is meant to be a place where artists can feel safe and
nurtured creating and sharing their art. I want them to feel like this is a home
for them -- a haven for making music. With that in mind, I'm encouraging the
performers each month to write and perform ONE NEW SONG!
I'll give the songwriters a different theme every time
and they can see where it leads them.
This month's NEW Song Theme:
Pandora's Box

Bring your friends, bring your family, and spend the
afternoon listening to live music in a comfy setting.
We always have some snacks, but please feel free to bring
finger foods or drinks to share! Enjoy the concert,
schmooze with the artists and audience members, take
home the CD's of the performers. Come early and visit
the famous S.M. Farmers Market beforehand.
