DONNA STERNBERG & DANCERS
presents Beauty and desire at the
Brasil Brasil Cultural Center
on November 10 at 8:30 P.M
The program dives into the topic of beauty, ranging from scientific evidence that suggests there is a common standard of beauty that transcends cultures and ethnicities to personal stories about beauty. New works by Artistic Director Donna Sternberg include The Back of Beauty inspired by an image from the movie “Snow White and the Huntsman” as well as a light-hearted look at prettiness. Guest choreographer Anandha Ray has created Inhale a new work that burrows into the desires that reside in the deep nameless places of our beings. Also to be performed is a section from the company’s full-length work The Flowering of Desire entitled Parasites, which looks at desire from the plant’s point of view and the intersection between plant and human desires. The program will include an informal discussion of how scientific theories of beauty and desire were used to inform and inspire the choreography.
The performance will be presented on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 8:30 P.M. at Brasil Brasil Cultural Center, 11928 Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066. Tickets are $20 general admission, $15 students and seniors and can be purchased at www.dsdancers.com. This event is made possible in part by the Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
