LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MEET VERISMO, PURVEYORS OF 'BROOKLYN THRASH'
Forget bed-head haircuts, eye shadow, and skinny jeans. Forget the whiny Clash-wannabe bands dominating the airwaves, and dig into 'City of Kings,' the debut album from a rip-roaring, headbanging, alcohol-fueled "thrash fuckin' metal" band from Brooklyn, VERISMO (which is Italian for 'realism').
Comprised of Stephan Laboccetta (vocals, guitar), Vincent Cruz (bass), and Tamas Vajda (drums), Verismo is a return to the good old days of thrash, when musicians knew their instruments, vocals were both intense and intelligible, and a live show was truly an experience. This is not a throwback or "old school" anything, this is three dirty metalheads from Brooklyn who can shred on their instruments, drink you under the table, and put on a live show that will leave you breathless.
"City of Kings", the crushing debut from Verismo, was recorded in one continuous take under the watchful eye of Dean Baltulonis (Sick Of It All), mastered at Trutone Studios by Joe Lambert (Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper), and delivered in a package truly representative of the post industrial wasteland sections of Brooklyn, the "city of kings" were the members met and wrote what is sure to become an independent classic.
Already competing with the majors, this record has independently charted on the FMQB top 50, and has been in regular rotation in many local and distant stations, including a spot in the top ten of WSOU for weeks by this point. All three members are no slouches on their instruments, either, as Laboccetta received his degree music at Radford University, ex- Ringling Brothers performer/acrobat Vajda received a diploma from the Drummers Collective, and Cruz was trained at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. As a result, Verismo is a band that fans of vintage thrash and hard rock are guaranteed to appreciate.
Upcoming Verismo shows:

Apr 28 2007 8:00P TBA Long Island (West Hempstead), New York

Punker Tim Armstrong gives away his album for free
Punk legend Tim Armstrong has announced plans to give his debut solo album, A Poet's Life, away for free on the internet beginning April 17th. Each Tuesday fans are encouraged to hunt down new songs and videos that will be made available for download on various blogs, sites and social networks. Additionally the album will also be available for sale on May 22nd with a bonus DVD containing 10 new videos.
“The idea behind this record was that I wanted people to have it for free as a thank-you to all of those who have supported me and Rancid over the years,” Armstrong says.
Backed by The Aggrolites, a notorious dirty reggae act from Armstrong’s own Hellcat stable, A Poet’s Life showcases the passion for punk, reggae and ska that has infused Armstrong’s music from his earliest work with Operation Ivy to his most recent Rancid album. The debut features ten body-grooving tracks including the propulsive dance single “Into Action” and the upbeat summertime sensation “Hold On.”
Armstrong approached his solo debut in complete DIY fashion by recording and producing A Poet’s Life entirely by himself. The project began last summer when he decided that it was time to show his fans some love with a free album. The Rancid frontman wrote and released the first two songs “Hold On” and “Wake Up” on the internet for free that fall. Over the course of the next several months Armstrong recorded the remainder of his album all while creating new videos for each song.
Never a stranger to having his music suddenly and widely embraced, as evidenced by the hit songs Armstrong has created for both Rancid and his side-project the Transplants, by March it was clear that the iconic singer/songwriter had another bona fide hit with the track "Into Action." The undeniably catchy dance song became a instant favorite of fans and critics alike, with support from everyone from Myspace users to the influential LA radio stations KROQ and Indie 103.1. Continuing to sweep the nation with its infectious groove, "Into Action" is guaranteed to be blasting from every car stereo and beach boom box this summer.
Be the first one to find hot new songs and videos each Tuesday!
Track Listing:
1. "Wake Up"
2. "Hold On"

Sol.iLLaquists of Sound ready to tour
What can I say? I love this band!! You need to see them, so pick a show near you! ~M
Sol.iLLaquists of Sound will embark on a seven-week U.S. tour this month in support of their acclaimed Anti- debut As If We Existed. Called "the next link in the chain of cerebral hip-hop," and fresh off an explosive run of dates with The Roots, the dynamic, Orlando-based collective will resume roadwork in Purchase, New York on April 21st.
Touted as "hip-hop in its most highly elevated form" by The Orlando Sentinel, S.O.S.' hometown paper added, "These songs are nimble in words and music, embodied with life-affirming spirituality." And in its recent cover story, Performer called As If We Existed "a concentrated and unrelenting polemic against the bullies and briar pits of modern existence."
Offering up a thinking person's brand of the genre, XLR8R cited the Sol.iLLaquists as "a full-on socially conscious hip-hop enterprise set to change the world" and wrote "As If We Existed is ultimately sincere, colorful and delivered with grace." Meanwhile, Okayplayer praised the disc in a 4-star review as "an interactive encounter - the more work the listener puts into absorbing it, the more rewarding it can be."
Discovered by rapper/poet Sage Francis, the combustible live presence of the quartet - Swamburger (MC), Alexandrah (vocals), DiVinCi (producer) and Tonya Combs (backup vocals) - prompted that renowned MC to not only introduce the group to the powers that be at Anti-, but incorporate them into his live act. Now taking flight on their own, Sol.iLLaquists of Sound bring their own spirited fusion of hooks and politicized raps to a city near you.
If DiVinCi's forthcoming live commitments with S.O.S. aren't enough, his MPC talents were at work when he joined Francis for his heralded performance at last month's Paid Dues Festival, shot a cameo for Sage's upcoming video "Got Up This Morning" just days later, and found time to join El-P at his recent spot-on gig at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, Sol.iLLaquists of Sound have gotten the thumbs-up from sources as diverse as The Source, Scratch, Creative Loafing, URB, and All Music Guide. The latter wrote "They're articulate and provocative but also melodic and soothing," but perhaps The Hartford Courant put it best when it proclaimed, "S.O.S. succeeds in raising issues mainstream rappers seldom touch."

Xavier Rudd to tour in June
Xavier Rudd – the acclaimed Australian singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist – will launch an extensive North American tour on June 16th with a performance at the 2007 Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennessee. The following day, a six-week headlining trek in support of his forthcoming Anti- album, White Moth (which drops June 19th), gets underway at the Madison Theatre in Covington, Kentucky. The tour wraps on July 31st at the Pearl Street Ballroom in Northampton, Mass.
Presale tickets will be available through MusicToday.com beginning tomorrow, Tuesday April 17th and run through Friday, April 27th. Presale ticket buyers will also be given the option to purchase White Moth in advance for $9.99; an advance purchase of the DVD enhanced CD without a ticket will cost $14.99. A General Announcement of The White Moth tour takes place on April 28th. Additionally, the tour will embrace a greening initiative in partnership with CLIF Bar’s Green Notes program to, as Xavier explains, “reduce our carbon footprint on the environment.”
In advance of his upcoming North American dates, Rudd will spend early May in his homeland, opening for the Dave Matthews Band on its tour of Australia. Then, following Bonnaroo (where he was the hottest merchandise seller when he last played there in 2005) and his own U.S. headlining commitment, Xavier will again join DMB as a special guest on select East Coast dates of their North American summer tour.
As for the hotly-awaited follow up to his acclaimed Anti- debut, Food In The Belly, Rudd says of White Moth, “It is my proudest work. I am so stoked with it. It’s a refection of my journey during the last year. Actually, it extends to seven years. Recording-wise, I got to do things I’d always wanted to do but never had the time or the budget.”
The disc finds Rudd speaking out against his country’s Aboriginal land right policies which have led to the wholesale displacement and mistreatment of its indigenous people. Xavier and co-producer Dave Ogilvie (David Bowie, Marilyn Manson and N.E.R.D.) recorded the bulk of White Moth in the woods of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast at Gggarth Richardson’s studio, The Farm.
Also featuring the voices of Aboriginal people captured in Arnhem Land – to the northeast of Australia’s Northern Territory – White Moth boasts members of the esteemed Aboriginal musical group Yothu Yindi on a number of tracks. Joined by percussionist Dave Tolley – a guest on Food In The Belly turned new addition to Rudd’s line up – the album also finds guest player Panos Grames (who lent his wares to Food In The Belly track “Mother Earth” and is the right hand man to esteemed Canadian environmental scientist and activist David Suzuki) in tow. First Nations Cree elder Kennitch also traveled from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to the White Moth sessions and can be heard lending traditional healing prayers and drum to “Foot Print” and “Message Stick.”As for praise, The Boston Globe wrote “[Rudd] offers a strikingly original mix of music,” of Food In The Belly. “Some of his sound (and idealism) echoes the surf-folk of Jack Johnson, while his Weissenborn guitar-playing evokes Ben Harper. But mostly, Rudd is on a plateau of his own, playing a one-man blend of guitars, Yidaki (didgeridoos), stomp box and various percussion.” Xavier Rudd’s previous albums, Solace (2004) and the aforementioned Food In The Belly (2005) earned platinum and gold sales certifications in Australia. His DVD Good Spirit (2006), counting footage from his sold out April 14, 2004 show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, was just recently certified gold in Australia.
For The White Moth Tour, Xavier Rudd is partnering with CLIF Bar, a natural food company, and their GreenNotes campaign to promote environmental awareness and calling music fans to action by taking such environmentally conscious steps as using biodiesel to fuel tour buses; offsetting the tour's CO2 emissions through the purchase of clean, renewable wind energy credits; using recycled paper and soy based inks for printed materials; serving organic food backstage for artist and crew; providing organic cotton merchandise options for fans; and minimizing the idling of tour buses. As I Lay Dying will make a special appearance on the two Atlanta, GA shows.
From there, UNDEROATH--whose critically hailed DEFINE THE GREAT LINE album is now certified gold after having entered the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart at #2--head down under for four special shows in Australia with Emery (June 7-10) and a headlining gig in Hawaii. Next, UNDEROATH will join the Vans Warped Tour midway on July 23 in Charlotte, NC and perform shows through August 9 in Boston. In the midst of this non-stop touring schedule, the band will also perform at the Cornerstone Festivals in Orlando, FL (May 12) and Bushnell, IL (June 30).

Oddway named OurStage winner
OurStage, the only 100% democratic competition for emerging music and film talent as decided by the fans, is pleased to announce the first grand prize winner in its monthly artist competitions. Boston-based Oddway, with their hypnotic reggae/rock flavored pop tune "Letter", was awarded the first ever monthly grand prize of $5,000.
OurStage lets music and film artists enter their work in its monthly competitions. The site then empowers its growing fan community to view and judge entries in a compelling, addictive way that cannot be gamed, skewed or rigged.
"We are stoked about winning."
The rock quintet - Ryan Ordway, Josh Amara, Mat Maier, Jeff Armstrong and female vocalist Petrina Foley - worked with producer Scott McLaughlin to independently produce and release their first album, "Away from the Everyday" in January 2007.
"Thanks to OurStage and the fans who voted for us, we'll be able to eat and get gas on our US tour!", says the excited band.
In addition to the $5,000 grand prize, OurStage has also arranged to have Oddway spotlighted in the upcoming CMJ New Music Report, and to release a track of one of their top songs in the CMJ Monthly Music CD sampler. But the winning didn't stop there-MUSIC winners: Ten other notable bands from the OurStage March competition will receive recognition in the April 2007 issue of Paste Magazine, one of the fastest growing independently published entertainment magazines in the country, recently named "Magazine of the Year" at the 2006 PLUG Independent Music awards.
The winning bands stretch across all genres of music and include names such as American Babies, Javelin, Blake Guthrie, Massive Sigh, Antiproduct and Oneside. Six more bands from the OurStage March competition will be featured in coveted spots at the Verge Music Conference. Considered the ultimate showcase for the "next big thing" in college music, Verge simultaneously showcases more than 100 rising stars at the best club venues in Boston. Representing OurStage are The Shapes, The Go Station, American Babies, Surn Majere, Leroy Justice, and Chris Pureka. In addition, these bands will receive coverage in the NEMO Omen Spotlight covering emerging talents.Film WinnersA Star Is Born: "Xero-The Story of X"
Not to be outdone by their musical counterparts, the Video competition saw its own version of March madness in nine categories: Animation, Cutting Edge, Action Sports, Music Video, Short Films, Music Comedy, and General Comedy.
One animated feature, "Xero-The Story of X" walked away with the top prize in multiple categories. Created by C. Palmer Stinson of TimeFissure Studios, Xero is the story of a small sewn figure named X who quickly discovers his existence is not all it's cracked up to be.
"Thanks to their exposure on OurStage, Xero" is currently featured on FilmThreat.com and will be reviewed by the DV Show podcast which reaches an audience of 225,000 people later on this month.
A host of other prizes are also being awarded to top video submissions across all channels including: automatic entry for top video entries into Videomaker Magazine's 2007 video contest, full membership to Shooting People, a feature spotlight in GenArt newsletter, passes to the Independent Film Festival of Boston. Top 5 text-vote video winners also receive the Point and Shoot digital video camera from Pure Digital Inc, dubbed as "The next thing in home video" by the WSJ To hear or view all the winning submissions from the OurStage inaugural competition, or to watch band and filmmaker interviews with the OurStage "EJ"s, visit www.ourstage.com/winners.

Consider a Natural Mystic Music Tour vacation
Nestled atop Jamaica's Blue Mountains and part of Island Outpost's collection of hotels, Strawberry Hill just introduced the Natural Mystic package honoring Bob Marley, the man whose spirit still lingers. As an exciting voyage into the vibe of Reggae music and the life of Bob Marley, guests who book a three-night stay, enjoy a complimentary visit to the Bob Marley Museum on Old Hope Road and a trip to Marley's home in Trenchtown - the inspiration for peace and harmony. A three-night stay starts at $1,866 for a Bedroom Suite or $2,146 for a Deluxe Studio. Rates are based on double occupancy and all meals, house wines and spirits, and airport transportation are included. An 18% tax and service charge is not included. For more information or to make a reservation, please call 1-800-OUTPOST or visit www.islandoutpost.com/strawberryhill
Founder of the iconic Island Records, Chris Blackwell bought Strawberry Hill in 1972, which was the peak of his reggae introduction to the world. A major element of this musical revolution was Bob Marley, a recording artist and personal friend. Blackwell's influence in the Jamaican and reggae community earned him infinite trust with a varied group of artists who also began to use the property as a studio, simply named Studio One. Many great artists would meet with Blackwell and their label management at Strawberry Hill throughout the years.
A refreshing and spiritual mountain retreat, Strawberry Hill continues to serve as a refuge for the weary and the well-traveled. It was no surprise that Bob Marley chose to recuperate here from a 1976 assassination attempt, drawing inspiration from the Blue Mountains' mists.
Strawberry Hill was honored with the National Heritage in Architecture Award in 1986 but then after a hurricane destroyed it in 1988, Blackwell felt compelled to commission Ann Hodges to brink back the history and beauty that it once possessed in true honor of its guests and their rejuvenated experiences. The resort opened again in 1991 encapsulating a rich and vibrant past. In addition to Bob Marley's accolades, guests skim through photos and awards lined up in the main bar and conference room honoring the works of many artists and rock legends including Traffic, U2 and The Rolling Stones.
The Bamboo room houses a collection of black and white photos of jazz singers and crooners like Dizzie Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Set on a former coffee estate, Strawberry Hill offers sweeping views of Jamaica's Blue Mountains and the Caribbean Sea, all bathed in the lush mountain mists. Twelve airy cottages, cluster beside the Caribbean's only Aveda Concept Spa, located at the resort. Wood-shingled and gracious, the architecture reflects the original nineteenth-century buildings that once stood here with cooling louvers, fretwork and gables. Hammocks and rockers stand on the verandahs. Hardwood floors and mahogany furniture – handcrafted on the premises – complete the ambiance.
With this new tour, artists, musicians and enthusiasts alike follow the paths behind this remarkable musician and begin to understand the true meaning of his lyrics.About Island Outpost:Owned by Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records and Palm Pictures, Island Outpost properties are known for their interesting character and stunning surroundings and offer clients a feeling reminiscent of staying at a friend's home.
