Matt Wertz to tour in support of new album

Nashville-based musician Matt Wertz will be in California to celebrate the release of his new album, Heatwave, at Bootleg Theater in LA on September 12th and The Observatory in Santa Ana on the 13th.

Matt's forthcoming release, Heatwave, captures an era in music inspired by the rock heroes of the 80s; Kenny Loggins, Richard Marx, Don Henley, Bryan Adams, etc.  Matt has set out to pay homage to the musicians he grew up listening to by creating Heatwave, a collection of songs boasting crisp drum beats and jangly guitar solos, along with the characteristically smooth vocals that fans have come to expect of Wertz.  Originally from Liberty, MO, Matt has spent the past 12 years pursuing his music career in Nashville, TN.  After having released several albums on major labels including Universal Republic and Nettwerk Records, Matt is now independently releasing Heatwave on his own label, Handwritten Records.  Keeping with the 80s influence Heatwave will be released as a limited cassette run with a hand thrifted Walkman players signed by Matt!  The album, which is set for an August 27th release, will also be available on vinyl, CD, and at all digital retailers.

Evie Ladin and Keith Terry in Pasadena Aug. 24

Oakland-based Evie Ladin, (www.evieladin.com) extraordinary clawhammer banjo player, singer, songwriter, and dancer, will perform with her husband, Keith Terry, bass player, singer, and king of body sounds (hand drumming and much more), will perform with an opening set by the very popular LA old time music trio, Triple Chicken Foot (www.triplechickenfoot.com) at Caltech on Saturday, August 24 at 8:00 PM.  The performance will be in Beckman Institute Auditorium on the Caltech campus, at 400 South Wilson Avenue in Pasadena.

Evie Ladin grew up on the East Coast and has immersed herself in American roots music, African and American folk dance, and other cultural arts.  After gaining national attention with the group, Stairwell Sisters, her second solo recording, The Evie Ladin Band, from 2012 was nominated as AMERICANA ALBUM OF THE YEAR by the Independent Music Awards.  She is highly spirited and will surely get our room full of people moving, and her performances with Keith Terry are lots of fun and very visual.  Triple Chicken Foot as opening act is much more than icing on the cake.  Featuring Ben Guzm├ín on fiddle/mandolin, Mike Heinle on banjo and Kelly Marie Martin on guitar, this amazing old time trio has grabbed lots of attention performing in Southern California.

Beckman Institute is located at 400 South Wilson Avenue in Pasadena.  Free parking is available in Beckman Auditorium’s parking lots, at the south end of Michigan Avenue, just south of Del Mar Boulevard.     Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12 and Caltech students.    They are available in advance and at the door.

Will Yip to release compilation album

Multi-genre producer and engineer WILL YIP will be releasing Off The Board: A Studio 4 Family Compilation featuring un-released songs from a slew of bands including Title Fight, Circa Survive, and Man Overboard on October 8, 2013. “This comp represents everything that I’ve done in the past ten years of my life,” explains Yip. Also, most of the songs were specifically written for this project.
